Upset
 

I'm really very upset about one of the things the Rev. Joseph Lowery said in his benediction. It was really racist and wrong. "black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around ... when yellow will be mellow ... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right." I'm sorry but I dont think that anyone is treated unfairly like they were. In his day yes but now no and I'm so upset!. Lincoln was white he fought for no more slaves and white people are the ones that fought there brothers for no more slavery! Why must it always be about color? Why? I dont understand this its so wrong, you think electing a black president would show that race shouldn't matter!

I agree! I think everyone should be happy and look pass the color

We're all part of a race...The Human race!! But old habits die hard and some people fight change!! I think today is a huge step for this Country and the whole World...Let's hope people take the hint and follow us!! God Bless America, President Obama and his Family... It is. Why get on the defense when no one is on the offense? Just seems to promote a victim mentality and could actually be more damaging to the african american race than good. It almost seems like a threatening statement. No one deserves special treatment, no matter their race, and it almost seems like he expects that they should. My best friend is black, and she gets very embarassed when people make statements like that.

I thought that white Americans are going out of their way to unite behind a black President and the comment was very racist.

I thought it was kind of uncalled for. Those are the kinds of statements that continue to divide the races. Whites, blacks, reds, purples, oranges with pink polka dots......we're all equal and making statements that blatantly seperate us...that doesn't help anything. Just my opinion.

What kind of erks me is the news never said anything about it people just act like it wasent said but it was.

I probably shouldn't post, but this is my thoughts. White people didn't start slavery.....its been around as long as people have. Blacks owned slaves, many, many, other races have. We were SO wrong to put them on a boat and ship them away from their homeland and use them......it was their black counter parts collecting them and selling them to the white man.....they were SO wrong. Its time to move on or if people can't for some reason move on, educate themselves on the subject of slavery. I still have a lot to learn on the subject, but every race can play a victim, but we would not advance. I look at people for who they are, what values they have and why they hold those values.

If they close threads just because of that there would be very few threads. Anything can hurt people's feelings and make them mad.

There are thing's you don't talk about religion,race,politics etc.
Especially on a forum there are so many different people It takes one wrong thing to be said for it to be a huge thing.

The rules said not to talk about religion or politics and I didnt there for I followed the rules. And I'm sorry but it was a big thing when this man said what he said. I'm sorry you dont feel the same but just because you dont feel the same dosent mean this post never should have been made!

If it wasent a speech that he probably rehersed and read over a lot I could see where your coming from because I too say things with out thinking and it has gotten me in a lot of trouble before but I really think he thought about it.

It should be about Character and not color.

At first I thought it could be construed the wrong way. After watching it again on a repeat show, I feel he meant no harm by what he said. He was an older man and has probably witnessed in his time plenty of racism. He was speaking of what made sense to him then. Its more of a generation gap really, not racial...jmo

Lenora, I see where you're coming from, but in my opinion talking about it in hushed tones isn't going to make the problem go away. Obviously racism is still a serious issue in our society, and that is just unacceptable. Unless the problem is called out and spoken of, it will never change and it will never advance.

I don't necessarily believe that the Reverand was inteding to make a racist comment or make certain races feel inferior or like a victim. I believe that his comments were of good intentions and he made a point, but I believe the same point could have been made in a different way.

No one discusses that he is bi-racial. He is half white, but that is never talked about. I am already tired of all of it. I just want a strong leader, I dont care what color he/she is. But, I also don;t want it shoved down my throat what a disadvantage he has had......think about it.....

Women face discrimination every day, and no one seems to care. Would we have had the same celebration if a Woman would have been elected.????

Let him just be a man period, and NOT a "black man".

well had he not said it and talked about it then I wouldnt have, its kind of a chain reaction. I was upset by what he said I was trying to figure out if anyone else heard it and it upset them to or if it was just me and everyone ignored it because I do not think its something that should just be ignored.
