Did you see him get out of his lime, and walk the parade route. I'm just so excited.

I am not watching this parade, but I'm pretty sure I've seen pictures of other Presidents walking the parade route before. In fact I thought they all did, but I'll be the first to admit I could be wrong :rolleyes:

WASHINGTON — Speculation is buzzing about one of the first high-profile decisions Barack Obama will make after taking the oath of office — whether he will walk down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.

Since Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, strolled down the entire avenue to the White House in 1977 after his swearing-in, all but one subsequent president has also left the limo at least for a stretch in what has become a symbolic "man of the people" gesture.

Ronald Reagan was the only one who didn't. In 1981, he traveled the 1½ miles in an open car, in deference to his age. His 1985 inauguration parade was canceled because of icy conditions and bitter wind.

It remains to be seen just what a great prez we have. I really dont think he will be able to do the things he promised the people on his campaign. Time will tell. is it obvious that I am not impressed? But I do hope he does great!

I agree with you...time will tell. Although it would have been a good start if today instead of spending $100 million on all this hoopla, that he had helped the homeless and soon to be homeless of this country.

Did'nt the Clintons walk the route both times?? I'm glad this will all be over soon. One Note, My Thoughts and Prayers are with the Kennedy family over the collapse of Ted @ the luncheon!! :hands:

How about for ONE DAY, we just allow the folks here at YT who want to celebrate this day, celebrate it?

And when the next Republican president comes along, those opposed can offer the same to those who want to embrace the day of that inauguration?

I saw him and the Mrs. walk the parade route. What a great couple! A great day! Did you hear about Kennedy? I sure hope he is not near the end, so sad. I just heard he should go home from the hospital tomorrow and is doing OK now. I'm so glad he lived to see the inauguration that he wanted to see so very badly.

Our Prime Minister is just great. It's the rest of them that are causing all of the issues.

Even though I'm not American and I'm not a Democrat, it is kinda interesting to see all the things that go on. I was listening to the radio today and they were talking about the procedures that were going on in order to move out President Bush and move in The Obama family all within like 6-8 hours- the stuff you never think of!

Oh I am just *so* excited!!! I was able to watch the Inaurguration after all. I cried.

No one knows for sure that he will be amazing, but at the same time, no one knows for sure that he won't be. It is so much better for your health to keep your head up and hope for the best, so that is EXACTLY what I intend to do! I believe President Obama is going to do everything he can to make this a better country for us, and for our future generations.

President Obama is only one man...and he is only human. We cannot expect him to change the world...especially not over night. But he can bring hope back into the American hearts and restore faith in our beautiful country and our government. President Obama cannot solve our problems by himself, but if we come together as one nation - the United States of America - then, really, anything is possible.
