I spent the day in the emergency room I woke up with an immense and horrifying pain in my left abdominal. All of a sudden i got really pale and was having shivers and hot sweats. I was shaking and literally felt like i was dying. My mom is in Puerto Rico, it just so happens i get sick when she's not here:confused: She works in a hospital so we called her and she told us to go there, it took forever while we waited for my uncle to get here. The pain was unbearable, i couldn't even get my self dressed or feed the dogs, i was going to faint. this was at 7 a.m. Well finally after getting there and screaming like i was giving birth, they injected me, put morphine in me and i felt numb. I took a CAT scan and it turns out i have a kidney stone, maybe more. My mom though it would be my appendix and need surgery but thankfully it wasnt cause i dont have insurance right now. It turned out to be the stones, i cant believe it. I just got home and have been throwing up the whole day, i cant keep water down, nothing. I need to eat to take the medicine but im afraid and the stones are still in me, and im teriffied cause they said when they come out it hurts like birth. im scared to go to the bathroom and i dont know what to eat. Has anyone had these before? And i rarely drink soda, they said i was dehydrated and you can also get it from certain foods. I have no idea what to eat, and my mom is not here, only my bf. He spent the whole day with me and also my grandmother. I feel so sick, does anyone have experience with this? |
wow i have never had kidney stones but i hear the pain is similar to giving birth. I really hope they are gone and you feel better soon! |
So sorry you are in such pain. The only thing I know about them is that you can be thankful you aren't a guy trying to pass them. And, yes, they are very painful to pass. I guess, with no insurance, that laser blasting isn't an option. Can they dissolve them? |
You poor thing! Try some ginger ale, peppermint tea or Perrier water to help ease your stomach (Perrier, no other brand of mineral water will work). The Perrier tastes terrible so mix it with some apple juice or ice tea mix. Eat some soda crackers. That should be enough food to have with your meds. Force fluids. If you can't keep fluids down, get to the doctor for IVs and anti-nausea meds. Follow the instructions that the hospital gave you. This is painful but it should pass with the stones. Kidney stones are miserable, they bring big men to their knees. If you have not passed the stones in a day or two or if you have bloody urine, get back to the hospital. They can do ultrasound and other things to dissolve the stones if they don't pass. |
Oh Hon, I am so sorry you are going through this. I'm much older than you, but I too am going through this. We left to go out of town last Sat early morning & it was a 7 hr car ride. That evening is when I started to have cramping in lower stomach area. I knew something was wrong when it didn't go away. The next day, the pain moved to my left side, lower stomach area & lower back area. The pressure was intense. Well, the worse pain for me did wait til we were back home. Arrived home late Mon night, went to bed & around 3:00 am awoke to intense pain/pressure accompanied with nausea!:( The next morning I went to urologist & xrays showed 2 stones. My file also showed xrays from 2005 & the stones were much smaller then. Yes, I don't want to scare you, but sometimes they do take a long time to pass. Good news for me is that now the pressure/pain has subsided. I only had to take 1 pain med....it really knocked me out. He prescribed Flomax which really helped alot. You only take it @night & it relaxes so that you are able to pass the stone more easily. And the doctor sent me home with meds for nausea. You definitely need that. The pain med could also make you feel even worse with nausea. You do need lots & lots of liquids & try to eat a little. I'm so sorry that your Mom is away right now. If there is anything, anything at all that I can help with any questions you might have, I'm right here. I know how scary it is. My Dad & brother have history with stones, so I was constantly asking them. HUGS to you & I hope the meds are helping to make you more comfortable. Pls keep us updated! HUGS!!:getwellso |

Ouch..I feel for you, I had them 18 y/a, that pain is unbearable!Trowing up is normal symptom of kidney stones , drink plenty of fluids.Hope you feel better soon. |
Hope you feel better soon! You were not taking topamax by any chance where you?? |
Didnt they mention giving the laser treatment? It breaks the stones down to fine particles and you don't even know your passing them. I'm so sorry you are in such bad shape, and at your young age. I sure hope you find something you can keep down. Maybe ginger ale and saltine crackers would help. |
I am so very sorry you are going though this. I have never had one, but I do understand that they are very painful. and :hands: |
Aww, I hope you feel better soon. |
i am sorry you are going thru this...i have not had this problem..let me knock on wood...i had a kidney infection before and it was not good....that is why i don't drink pop anymore...afraid of the pain... |
wishing you a speedy recovery:) |
It does really hurt. I brought my husband to the hospital, and had to wheel him in. They had him stay the night, and the stones left,, but they did keep him a morphene. Hope you're better soon. |
Try this drink for kidney stones it works!!!! It makes them smaller so you can pass them. 1 gallon distilled water- squeeze in 5 lemons --- add 2 cups raw organic apple cider vinegar ( Braggs is best) Drink every day for 2 weeks. Hope you get to feeling better. Kidney stones are worse than having a baby I think. |
Oh you poor thing, it makes me hurt just hearing about it. Hope you get relief soon, and make a full recovery. |
Hope your feeling better soon ((hugs)). |

That makes sense. Vinegar is used for just about everything. You can use it to clean your ears, clean your dogs ears, clean your carpet, clean your coffee maker, it just breaks down everything! I might make this and drink it just as a preventative! All the women in my family have had kidney stones, so it couldn't hurt anything thats for sure. |
oh no! I am so sorry! I know exactly how you feel. I woke up the morning I was supposed to take the Law School Admission Test in 2004. I thought I was dying. After an all day trip to the emergency room they sent me home with something to help me sleep and told me to drink water. I slept for the next 5 days only waking up long enough to take medicine and drink a glass of water. Finally when they passed I was so relieved to be out of pain that I cried! |
I felt a little better today. The pain meds really work, i dont feel much pain in my lower abdominal anymore, it was sooo bad, i could feel it in my back as well. But today i didnt as much, i could still feel something there which was uncomfortable but not like yesterday. Also i felt nauseas today as well, i was kinda dizzy but i took the meds they gave me, they gave me antibiotics, motrin and vicodin, which i am too scared to take cause i have heard of all these ppl that get addicted to it like celebs, etc. I will only take that if the pain is unbearable. They still haven't come out yet, i am drinking tons of water, and tried to eat something but only ate once today cause of the nausea. I still cant believe how much pain i was in yesterday. I remember thinking, if this is how it feels to give birth, or if it's worse i dont think i ever want to have kids. im still reading all the replies and am going to do what you guys suggest, thank you so much for the advice |

Sarah, I hope you're starting to feel better. About the vicodin, please take it if you start feeling pain. Do not let the pain get so bad that you have to go back to the hospital. You will not become adicted with one or two perscriptions. I was on vicodin and darvocet from August until November for sinus surgery and colon surgery. When I didn't have the pain anymore I quit taking it & threw away the rest. Prayers that you pass those stones soon and recover quick. Hugs, jeanie PS: your PM's are full |
just checking in! Hope you feel better soon! |
I hope you are feeling better. My sister just called and told me that her BF has kidney stones! They had to rush him into emergency and they gave him some pain meds and a thing that he pees into to make sure they come out. He got hurt a few months back on the job so I don't think he has insurance either. :( |
