baking question I want to make healthier baked goods. Can I use olive oil instead of butter? Is there a healthy substitute for sugar? (other than Spenda?) I'm asking here because I know many of you live healthy lifestyles. Thanks. :) |
this I tried olive oil in cake GROSS we could not eat it grape seed oil is great |
You can get Earth Balance. It is all vegetarian based butter. No cholesterol and no hydrogenated oils. Tastes great too. There is a sugar substitute called Zero, made from cane sugar and not processed. Non turbinated cane sugar or pure cane sugar is actually healthy in moderation. It is the "white" processed sugar that is bad. Any nutrients have been stripped. You can get all of what i mentioned in amy health food store, but my local supermarket carries both. :) |

There is a product (or used to be ) but out by Sunsweet called Lighter Bake, it is a butter and oil replacer. I use vanilla non-fat yogurt with artificial sweetener to replace some of the fat and sugar. If you are baking something like oatmeal cookies or a spice cake, apple sauce is a great sweetener. Yogurt is my usual and customary substitute. You can also use light mayo or light sour cream to add moisture with less fat. |
Stevia Extract In The Raw - Learn About Our all-natural Sugar Substitute This is what I use! And no, I don't think olive oil would be very tasty in baking hehe, but check out the coconut oil. Coconutoil.com - Research on Coconut Oil's Benefits |
You can use applesauce in place of a lot of oils in baking...stevia/truvia is great replacement for sugar too! |
The applesauce is a good replacement for oils, as is prune puree' (you really don't taste the prunes). Also, honey can be used as a sweetener in some things. How to Bake with Fruit Puree Instead of Fat | Healthy and Green Living |

I've heard that it's great as a conditioner/lotion too. LOL...it has become my "all-in-one" wonder drug or food. A good friend has been giving it to her 14 y/o German Shepherd that could barely get around anymore. Since starting him on this she says he plays now like a much younger dog! |

That was my first reaction too. After reading though, I've changed my mind. Coconutoil.com - Research on Coconut Oil's Benefits |
