What is the History of YorkieTalk? I noticed on our new YorkieTalk calendar, that today is YorkieTalk's 5th birthday. Wow! 5 years :) This started me thinking about the beginnings of YT..... Since I have only been around a short time, I really do not know anything about YT's history. Do you have any stories about YorkieTalk, especially in its first year? How was it created? How has it changed? What was the forum like in the very beginning? Who were some of the first members? Thanks for sharing any stories or history you can contribute. Also, Happy Birthday YorkieTalk! This place is the greatest.... |
Lisa.. great thread and I also want to wish a happy birthday to Yorkie Talk. I've learned so much from this site and I thank all of you for it. Are there still members from the beginning? |

Well it has grown alot. Alot of the members from even when I started posting arent active members anymore so its alot of change. When I first started posting you could say anything to anyone and not get suspended or banned. I think it was because when the forum only had a few members they didnt have any problems. Not long after I came there was a huge growth spurt and they instituted the no personal attacks rule. There werent any featured sellers sections either. There also used to be alot more active breeders on here I dont know where they have went |

When i First Joined there were about 10 active member's. |
I forgot about Browniesmomn shes an old old timer also. I found yorkietalk by doing a google search. I was getting ready to get my 1st yorkie so I was researching and found this site. I couldnt believe there was a forum dedicated to yorkies. Little did I know there were quite a few |
Happy birthday yorkietalk! I was member 199 to join :) It would be so fun for all the "oldies but goodies" who are still around to post. I didn't post much the first couple of years I was a member (shame on me) but I saw the light and repented. I love YT - it is very much a part of my daily life -- Hugs to FE for making this site available to all! |
I joined in 06 and have been an active member since. I have seen alot of ppl come and go, but have made some really great friends! I think its great there is a place like this for ppl to come and learn. I know as a breeder myself, I always try to help when ppl have questions. I also found YT in a google search, but I was not searching anything Yorkie related, LOL, I clicked on it, joined, and have been here since :) |
Wow, 5 years! Happy Birthday YT! I'm a newbie, but am sooo grateful to this site and it's members - I don't know what I would have done without you all! :Dxxx xxx xxx |
I didn't even realize you could tell what member number you were... When I joined there was a thread which gave the history. I know the majority of members at the time...came from another site. I think that one was closed down...due to drama. Imagine that. I remember tons of people who no longer frequent the site. Besides the number of members...I'd say a big difference now than when I joined....is the age. Seems to be quite a few twenty somethings here now and weren't so much before. And not that this comment has anything to do with the other...but people weren't offended nearly as often with the advice they received. |
Happy 5th HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY YORKIE TALK And CHEERS  to all the members past, present and future that keep this wonderful site alive! :yorkietal:bigbdaypa:bigbdaypa:bigbdaypa |

That is so interesting that you knew you were #199. Is there a way to still figure this out? |

I joined 12/12/2005 shortly after getting Bubba. I was searching the internet for advice on how to deal with a sick Bubba. When I got him he came with kennel cough (discovered on the way home from getting him) which developed into pneumonia. After many weeks of antibiotics and many tears so afraid he would die that I couln't even work, he finally recovered only to find he has a heart murmur (still does but it's slight now-grade 1 and you'd never know it by the way he is). As he grew he had the usual puppy problems-knots, extra teeth (who knew?), neutering etc. and it was wonderful to have the support and the vast information of this group. By the way, Bubba came from a pet store and is a puppy mill baby, I had no idea that this horror existed till YT. Now that I have a second yorkie, my sweet little (11lbs.) rescue, Sissy I don't feel like such a spaz and can take problems with a little less hysteria (for which, I'm sure my vet thanks you all). When she coughs and makes honking noises I know it's "just her yorkie trachea".:D So thanks everyone for all the support and caring found here.:clapsmile:ghug: and I hope YT is around for a good long time to come. |
I originally had joined another Yorkie board (can't even remember the name of it now) but then I think it was going under or something - can't even remember the details now - and Villette turned me on to this board not long after it started. I wish I knew what number I was joining but I think it was pretty early in it's conception. It really has been a wealth of information. I wish I had something like this site to turn to when I was raising my toy poodle many years ago. I don't post all that often (as you can see by my post count) but I read as much of the board as I can while at work every day. Thanks again YT for everything! |
We currently have several admins here at YorkieTalk. You can find your YT user number by clicking on your member profile, such as this link for admin: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/members/admin.html Then click the "Contact Info" tab. It will then show: This Page http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/member.php?u=1 Your YT member number is the number after the u= ... YT admin is member #1. :) |
Cool, thanks! I was #236! |

Also, would love to hear how you came up with the idea for YorkieTalk, Administration. :) |
One freezing cold day last winter, I went back and read some of the earliest threads - it was really interesting to see the beginnings. (You can do this by going to the general forum & where it says page #s - click on last) |

Not being very internet smart, I was a little leary about joining anything over the internet, but the power of craving anything and everything yorkie overcame my fear............and the rest is history! Here I am............and I'm here to stay! Thank you Admin, Moderators, YT members and friends, for making this a place I am happy to call "my second home". :) |
