Preventing colds??
 
On Friday we leave for Disney World! :D Last Christmas when we went to Disney I got REALLY sick on our last day. :( Flying back and being (miserably) sick was NOT fun. I guess all the flying, environmental changes, long days, etc. caught up with me.

I'd like to start taking something now so hopefully I can prevent getting a cold. Anyone know of any good remedies that prevents you from getting a cold? I'm thinking about getting some Vitamin C tablets.

yes! VITAMIN C's!! :thumbup: take them like crazy.. :thumbup:
you can't do any harm... whatever your body does NOT need, you will just PEE out! :eek: :D ;) i promise...

Really?? The last time I bought some I'd take like 1500-2000 MGs a day cause they were so good! :p

Yes vitamin C all the way.
Airborne, or any off brand, since it's all the same stuff. Drink two of them a day, they work!

There's a lot of people who say it doesn't work (they say it's all in your head, heck it still works, even if I may be tricking myself) but if I feel a cold starting to come on I'll drink a couple of those a day for a few days and the feeling of the cold will go away.
This just happened last week. I was at work and I'd feel really hot and sweaty, then cold, and my head was hurting and I kept sneezing. I did the whole airborne thing and it went away! If I'm already sick it doesn't do much except maybe cut my cold down by a day or two.

I hate being sick on vacations. I took a cruise a couple of years ago with my parents. During the last 2 days I got strep throat, 102 fever, and the flu.

Have fun in Disneyworld!!! I wanna go so badly next year. I've only been to disneyland.

Kyle...you lucky ducky! I wanna go too...can I come along?

I swear by zicam...I think it has zinc in it. I get the zicam nose spray because I don't like the taste of zinc and can't taste it when I use that. I tried the lozenges once and had that icky taste in my mouth.

I really like Airborne! They work pretty good. Too bad they taste so horrible! :p They should come in a pill form.

Isn't it horrible being sick on vacation? Luckily, I didn't start getting sick until the night before our last day. Flying home sick... not good. :p

Sure you can! How quick can you get here? :p

I've heard good thinks about Zicam! I'm going to look into that. I think my mom uses that.

1/2 cup of pomegranate juice a day(it tastes nasty, but, works). Make sure that it isn't mixed with any other juices

My husband swears by Airborne...he says the Grapefruit flavor one is the most tolerable. He takes it everyday for about a week before getting on a plane.

Me? i'm a believer of carrying Anti-bacterial hand sanitizer EVERYWHERE with me....especially planes. I think airplanes are probably one of the most germiest places.

That's the commercial that convinced me that Vitamin C didn't work! :p I'm going to get some today though.

Sounds like a fun trip. Definitely wash your hands a lot. Do not use the air vent in the airplane. It just recirculates the air and blows the virus right up your nose. A virus is very tiny and can fit through the filters so turn that thing off. Also bring your own pillow the airplane pillow is used again and again and probably contains lots of...

Keep your immune system up by getting plenty of sleep. Stress also weakens the immune system so try not to worry too much. I will sometimes take the airborne and a good multi-vitamin before going.

And taking too many Vitamin C tablets are bad... there is a limit so careful.. or it can make you feel worse.

Really?? I've never heard of that before! I always turn the air vent on full blast! :eek: I'm not gonna be doing that anymore.

I do not recommend Zicam nasal spray!!!!!!!! I used it ONE time as directed and I have never been able to taste or smell since. It has been 2 years now. It does not affect everyone the same way, but why take the chance??? The damage done to me by this dangerous product is permanent. PLEASE dont use this product!!!!

Airborne--yes!

It may be in my head but they work--they will also ward off a hangover if taken prior to drinking, before bed and again the morning after.:p

There has already been a class action lawsuite against Zicam, and Zicam lost. About 300 people in that group completly lost all smell and taste, permanently. I am in a second class action lawsuit with about 50 or more people. There was also a one hour special on TV last year about Zicam and how it is causing this. Zicam, of course, is in denial. It does work for some people with no problems, but why take a chance. It only takes one time to loose something that most of us take for granted. I feel blessed that I am not in any pain with this problem, but what I wouldnt give just to be able to taste my Moms cooking once again.

Good luck on whatever you decide and please take care. Colds and bronchitis is making the rounds here in my area like crazy. I haven't been sick in over 2 years and now I'm coming down with something. :(

Wow, that's scary. I'm surprised I've never heard about it before.

I don't know what is worse! A hangover or taking three Airborne doses. :p
