That is a very good point though! |
People who are giving up their pets are probably getting forced out of their homes. It's not easy to find apartments that will take pets, and if you do, many can't afford the extra deposits and monthly payments. I doubt if it's just the cost of pet food that is making people abandon their pets. __________________ This may be the true in many cases. I just wanted to make everyone aware of how full our shelter's and pounds are with the overload in hopes some may be able to drop off food, blankets or make a small donation to help feed the overload. |
Also, some of the pets that are being given away, left, or advertised cheap are not spayed or neutered and illegal aliens are now getting into the "breeding" business as the laws have been tightened on employers hiring illegals. I am all for these laws against illegals, but this is just one more avenue that they use to stay here. Its sad to find out where these unwanted dogs go. |
I don't understand how someone could just abandon their pet or leave it in their home when they move out. That is wrong. I don't think I could ever give my dog to a pound -- the not knowing would just kill me. However. People are being put in impossible situations right now. They are doing what they can to get the best out of it. There are some very irresponsible people who drop their pets at the first time something goes wrong. but that's not usually the case. Rehoming a pet....it hurts. No one should judge someone that rehomes a pet, because they don't know what they go through. Our shelters are ridiculously full. Do what you can to help. But don't judge the people that leave their pets there, for you don't know why they had to do it. |

this is absolutely HORRIBLE.. ppl that do this are selfish and seriously hope karma comes to them. i understand this is a hard time for ppl with the economy and xmas coming but my god.. if you cant afford dog food then just give them human food.. give them some of what you eat.. they'll live.. cut back on whatever you can including presents.. others will live too.. arghhh makes me so angry and sad..... how do ppl just give up their dogs who should be like their CHILDREN or FAMILY MEMBER just like that?:( btw i just read the posts above..about ppl having no choice.. sorry even if i had to move and had 0 money, id still take princess with me |
In my opinion, keeping a dog that you truly can't afford to take care of (seriously..give it some of your own food, it'll live?) is a million times more selfish than giving it to someone who CAN afford to take care of it. |
I dont understand it either! It breaks my heart!!! I understand there are LOTS of ppl right now that are in poverty and cannot at all care for the dog, but instead of leaving it alone in the abandoned house to die ATLEAST try to find a rescue or a good home for it. Dont just leave it to die. I feel horrible for all the families that cant even afford to feed their children and i understand that they just cant find a way to feed their pets either, i feel so bad for them and i understand it with this crisis we are in, but the least they can do is try to find it a home that can feed and care for it. I could never, ever see myself giving away my dogs cause i have less money, but if there comes a day that i absolutely cannot feed them i would do whats best for them and give them to someone that has the money to do so, so they can live the life they are supposed to. I wouldnt be selfish and let them starve, no way. But seriously even if i was in hard times and only had a little food, enough to feed me and i see my dogs are hungry i would split the food with them, or give it to them first cause as a human we can go longer w/o food. They are tiny and cannot. :( |

You know, when thinking about the people that have given up thier animals without just cause, I just think that the animals will be better off in new homes because obviously they were not cared about that much. And with the people that really had no choice, they were looking out for the best interest of the pet, not themselves, just as a mother that cannot care for her unborn child might choose to give it up for adoption. |
Sometimes financial problems happen. If you can't even afford to feed yourself, how could you afford to feed your dogs? And if you can't eat, then you'll get sick and how could you care for your dogs then? Giving them table scrapes isn't healthy for them either... Seriously, some people just need to think a little bit more. I would NEVER give up my dogs for no good reason, but if I thought they were better off with someone else, then I would give them up... and it would hurt A LOT, but it would be for them... not ME. I also would NEVER give them to just anybody. I'm in a really bad financial situation right now, and I seriously thought for a little bit about my ability to take care of my dogs. I've cut back on everything, but when you're the only one working taking care of yourself and your spouse and your two dogs and your bills equal out to be about $1000 more than what your income is... you start questioning things and it's not fair for other people to judge me, or your neighbor, or a person in a completely different state. You don't know what someone's life is like until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Now what disgusts me is people that abandon their animals... my MIL's neighbor had his house foreclosed on and he left his three rotties there... |
