best for texting- at&t Hi everyone! I am shopping around for a new phone for my daughter for a Christmas present. I am completely overwhelmed- I do 0 texting. If you have at&t, love to text and love your phone- could you help me out? I'm thinking the qwerty boards look pretty good. We don't have the data plan so it doesn't need to have a bunch of cool features using the internet like the iphone. Asking my daughter is pointless. She is ridiculously easy to please and will just say she's perfectly happy with her Razr. I know she'll end up loving an upgrade- I actually had to force an ipod on her last Christmas- she kept saying she'd never use one and didn't need it and now I don't think it's ever turned off. I know I'm lucky she is so easy to please but it makes buying gifts really hard. TIA!:) |
I had a blackberry pearl through att but we canceled it when we moved to Germany. It was really easy to txt on once you got used to the way the keyboard is set up. my husband has the pearl and hes also a big fan. It has a more traditional qwerty keyboard. We had internet in the states, but not here. We use the smae phones but just through the German version of T-mobile instead. They're still really nice phones even if you don't use the internet. lol. sorry its long. To sum it up. Both my husband and I had blackberrys with QWERTY type keyboards on ATT and loved them and have kept our blackberrys through change of service. hope that helps. |
I definitely do NOT recommend a BlackBerry Pearl for texting. That's what I have and while I love all of the great features a BlackBerry offers, half the time when texting on it I want to throw it out the window :D. The keys are very small and very close together and half the time you can hit a key 50 million times and it still puts the wrong letter in. However, I've had several phones - different brands since I was around 15/16 & the BlackBerry is the best one by far. It gets good service, never shuts off randomly (this happened a lot with my Razr) and has quite a few cool things you can do with it. Good luck!!! |
I have AT&T and I have blackberry curve. I cannot live without that phone. LOL It is so great for texting as it has a full keyboard. So it is just like typing on the computer. ;) I text everyday so I got the unlimited texting plan. I think its $40 more every month. I chose the plan where I dont need many minutes so it works out as I text a lot. If you choose just a regular plan AT&T has a certain amount of texts you can send a month. |

Thanks everyone! I also just noticed that Jenn started a thread asking almost the same exact thing and I know our girls are the same age so I'll go check out those responses. Sorry Jenn- I just got back in town and haven't caught up yet.:o |
I have the Pantech Duo. I like it. It has the qwerty keyboard, also. |

Okay, I just finally read through Jenn's thread and I see she is thinking about changing carriers. We have had great luck with AT&T so want to stay with them so please keep those AT&T phone suggestions coming.:D So far I'm going to look into the Blackberry Curve and the Pantech Duo. Any other comments on those or any other phones are appreciated. |
My bf has the blackberry 8820 and he LOVES it! he had to have a phone with no camera and thats one of the only ones made like that anymore! But the phone is great for txting! It has a very generous keyboard. But if you really feel like spoiling her, get the iphone 3G i can't live without mine! |

Thanks- she does use her camera on her phone. I did look into the iphone because I'm having such a hard time coming up with presents and the iphone would be a great 'wow' gift. Then when I looked at the plans it looked like I couldn't get a family plan unless I also had an iphone. I don't need one and the iphone family data plan plus unlimited text was going to be too expensive since I wouldn't even be using it. Getting an iphone with regular family plan like we have now without the data plan seems silly so I ruled it out. It is a really neat phone though. |
I have the Iphone with ATT and I get great service, etc. However, texting on the Iphone isn't the easiest thing to do. I have had a BB Pearl and Curve and I prefer texting on those a million times over Iphone. That is my opinion. Iphone does have a lot of cool features that BB doesn't have. BB has a new phone out called the BB Bold and it's one of the newer blackberry's and has a lot of improvements. Goodluck. :) Quote:

I have a Razr and love it. It's great for texting. It's actually much easier than the other phones. |

If you like texting the iphone is not that easy to use. The touch screen makes it hard. It would take me time to get use to it. That is the reason why I got blackberry instead. |

There is a blackberry 8800 that is really nice and it has a camera! Good luck! I hope I have helped! |

The iphone is super easy to txt on, I'm really happy with it! Not to mention all the cool apps! |
I love, love, love my blackberry Pearl. My daughter just got an At&t Tilt, which has a full keyboard and I really like the tilt too. (Got the tilt on ebay for a steal, for a new phone-still in the box) |
My dtr has the Blackberry Pearl and loves it, would like an iphone, but plan is too expensive. She texts nonstop. |
blackberry! i've had the pearl and the curve and i just currently got the storm (verizon) :) the pearl is a good choice if you like smaller phones, has the same or close to the same capabilities as the curve just not the full qwerty keyboard. the texting you get used to after a while.. the pearl auto-text bothered me a lot though lol. the qwerty keyboard on the curve is easier to text with but i always had to text with both hands. if i had at&t i'd get the blackberry bold! its 3g & has wifi as does the iphone. the camera on the bold is pretty sweet as well. the bold is pretty pricey though if youre upgrading & i think at&t has a sale going on with curves right now anyway. another qwerty phone you could look at is the samsung blackjack II. |
On the pearl it is possible to change it so that it doesn't fill in the words for you. You can put it in multitap mode where it works just like a regular keyboard just press the button twice for the second letter. I think its a lot preference. haha. hope you find the perfect phone. |

nice phone AT&T Quickfire - Orange Lay your hands on the new Quickfire and its interactive touch screen and you'll discover you can check email, listen to music and watch videos, all with a few simple taps of your finger. Love to text? It's a snap with a slide out full QWERTY keyboard! |

Hi Nikki- Looks like you had a fabulous vacation from your other thread :D I know you said you're not interested in the iPhone, but I have one, and texting on it is AMAZING. I text A LOT. I would be embarrassed to say how many texts per month I send/receive. And it's so great because it's touch screen and if you get "close" to the letter you want but hit the wrong one, it is smart enough and will figure it out---ah, technology! :p Anyway, sorry that's really no help because you aren't looking into an iPhone, but I do love mine :D Hope you find something that will work perfectly! |

Is it a good phone to have even if you don't have the data plan? You do not have to have a data plan for this phone. It's really a nice phone and its new. I would advise you to research and read reviews on the ones you would like to consider.. I've been researching myself. I have a curve, but unless you have a data plan to go with it, it's useless except for texting and calling. I feel like I might have wasted money on it. It is a very good phone and I like it, but it's more phone than I needed. I want something , I can text and call on and look really nice and classy. I liked this phone... Good luck. BTW, we ordered on Thursday and had it on the following Monday. Very fast shipping. |
Ha..we are sooo alike....trying to find a phone for our DD's! I think we are looking into a blackberry pearl...but not certain yet....like you, we don't need all the "fancy" stuff - internet, etc. Can't wait to hear what you decide on! |
