Anyone else here NOT having to cook for Thanksgiving? Ok, well I'm making the green bean casserole its the only thing they ever assign to me. I'm not complaining. I hate to cook! I try to help out and such but I can't imagine doing a turkey and all the fixings all on my own! We all help out and bring food so it's not too bad but my Mother in law and her sisters cook like crazy and then we have too much left over! |
I really love to cook especially dessert and I always get asked to being green bean casserole to my mother in laws. This year when I asked what I could make they told me nothing. So then I offered to make homemade cranberry sauce. Nope they already bought it in a can.:( Then I get a phone call last night at 9pm and was asked to bring salad:eek:. Needless to say I was a little upset I think I am a good cook and I always get compliments maybe they really don't like my cooking. Sorry about the rant! Inlaws! |

I LOVE homemade cranberry sauce, yummy! I bet your cooking is great and they are just jealous :D As we always go to a member of my family's house for Thanksgiving, I never get any left-overs :( so my hubby went to the store and picked out the smallest turkey he could find (8lbs) so we are doing our own Thanksgiving on Friday, with just us and the babies :p Neither have ever made a turkey so we figure we'll experiment when it's just us! Any tips? |
We never had those type problems in my family when we got together.... anytime any asks... what can we bring... the answer is always.... bring what you want, if we have two, someone will eat it:D followed up with.... you can never have to many desserts!:p |
i dont get asked to do anything but i offered to make apple pie:) my bf is the cook so they ask him lol |
i Make the turkey for the very first time in my life lol....and hubbys grandma makes the sides |

I only have to make desserts this year. I really miss cooking though. Our house was usually the dinner place but the kids are spread out now and it is just too hard to get together. :( I even put a double oven in this house when we moved here 3 years ago. I love smelling all the foods cooking all day and then the leftovers! I am really going to miss it this year...this is the first year we won't be having dinner at home. |
im not a big fan of cooking  usually we have 3 seperate thanksgivings! (my dads family.. at my aunts house, she is a BIG FAN of COOKING and she ALWAYS goes OVERboard with EVERYTHING 454389758753 of EVERYTHING :p) (my boyfriends family, his sister usually has it.. and i bring a side dish and call before we head over to ask if they need any last minute things from the store, as well :)) (my moms house, with my grandparents, aunt/uncle/cousins from up north(CA), etc. and my mom and g-ma usually do all the cooking, i just help how i can, in the kitchen.. making dips, etc. ;)) |
I'm making dinner for my husband and I, AND for the single soldiers at the barracks. They'll happily eat anything that may possibly resemble home cooking though so it is good to go:) You're a lucky duck though not having to make anything but green bean casserole. I'm jealous. :teeth: happy thanksgiving! |
Cooking Everything I wish I could say I wasn't cooking. But I am as usual. Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, corn, rutabagas (for DH), salad. Plus Apple, pumpkin, and coconut custard pies. Son is bringing the Soda. And on Friday I will just relax. But this year only 7-9 people instead of 12 or 13 as in past years. Well I hope everyone just has a HAPPY THANKSGIVING :D:aimeeyork |
I go to my grandma's house for Thanksgiving, so I don't have to make anything. :) |

Me!!! Cuz we don't have Thanksgiving here but I've been reading all the threads and you all sound like you're having lots and lots of yummy things to eat. Someone should invite me over next year! |
I'm going to my brothers. I'm in charge of the stuffing. It's my grandfathers oyster sausage stuffing. It's been handed down for generations. He has since passed away, but he taught me how to make it for the last few years he was alive. I hope they like it. It's very expensive to make, but I always make alot and then freeze the extra raw for Christmas/New Years.:D |
