Non-copyrighted music suggestions?
 

Music producers are cracking down on youtube users. Several of my vids have been removed for copyright violations (I was able to add them back by changing the background music to elevator music youtube offers for free).

I always thought that because I was so small-time and not in it for profit, I wouldn't be noticed but that's not the case.

So my question: Does anyone have a suggestion for downloading music that doesn't have a copyright limitation attached? It doesn't have to be great music, but I like lyrics that are upbeat and work with dogs running around like madmen.

Where do you usually get your music from? I have put lots and lots of vids on you tube and have never had one taken off. Are you using mp3's?

When selecting vids from YT i try to pic the ones that were published by the label or productions studio. they are legit.;)

Wow. Youtube will be pretty empty if they do that. Do you know if they're removing parodies too that use the names of copyrighted characters? I know my son loves watching the Potter Puppet Pals.

I'm not sure if some of you understand; U-Tube is cracking down, and unless you own the rights or have permission from the owner, U-tube will take it down, if they find out about it. AlaskaYorkie was just talking about this the other day. Before taking it down, U-tube gives you an option of selecting from a list of music, and the video is automatically switched to their approved list, but you cannot place the music in the video before hand, U-tube does this. Also U-tube says that if you do this, there may be commercials placed in your video as well. I have been looking for a list of approved music, because I know U-tube has a library from which to select, but it seems that this can only be done once you upload the video. All these "free downloading" music sites won't help, you still don't own the music. I thought because I owned the CD's that was ok to use, but that doesn't work either, you have to own the rights. AlaskaYorkie said that he would try to find more out about it, so far I haven't had much luck.

Oh I just noticed you are AlaskaYorkie, darn and I was hoping you would come to the rescue.

Here's an example of an e-mail one U-tube member got.
His U-tube use to play Dolly Parton's song "Working 9 To 5," he used audioswap, and this was the result. I'm sure it loses something.

This has been driving me nuts!! It's hard to find songs that they approve.

not sure about how the copy right thing works for using with your personal videos. It's not like people are trying to take credit for the music or claim it as theirs. Actually I see it as a tribute to the artist but....

We're not trying to download "free music" we're trying to use music in the videos without copyright infringement problems.

Actually, downloading free music may be what caused some of the problem. There are many sites now that allow you to take the music from U-tube, and turn it into a music file, in essence you are getting music without the video for free. This is probably one of the reasons U-tube had to crack down.

wait im confused...so no1 can upload a video of their own and put someone's song in the video. Like for example, what if i add a video of my yorkies and put a britney spears song to them playing..i cant do that? thats sooo retarded:( All videos on youtube are like that

I know ;) but I didn't have anything else on copy right and since someone else posted about downloading music legally I didn't think it would matter.

Well you can do it, but if or when you get caught you will get an e-mail saying that you have violated the agreement with them. You only use to get caught if someone reported you, there are millions of videos, and in the past, most people didn't get caught. However, with new digital music recognition programs that the major music companies are using, it's much faster for them to find videos that have used their music, and report them. So U-tube will be changing, and not in a good way.

I've gotten all my music for Yorkie vids legally off iTunes. I can listen to it to my heart's content, but I can no longer use it as background music on my vids. I'm just glad that they're not trying to prosecute anyone and that youtube is giving us an alternative to taking them down completely. It's definitely not youtube's doing. It's the music industry's.

And hviola, I'm not sure about parodies that use names of copyrighted characters. It may be technically illegal, but I don't think they have an easy way to search for that yet.

Mike I was having a little look around to find out what I could about this because I'm concerned some of mine may get taken down too because I have music that has copyrights on it.

I found this article and the ways it reads to me there does seem to be a way round it... but I guess they can't do it with all videos.

I just took a look at that article and then I went to the Royalty Free Music website...am I reading right, one song will costs you $9.95?:eek: That's a little outrageous, especially if it's already a song that I own on a cd!

I didn't go to any of the links, I was refering to the part about youtube placing ads on the page your video is on and then the owners of the material receive the revenue generated.

But yeah, that's stupidly high.

Interesting, thanks. The last notice I got just said that they removed the video. No warning, no ads, it was gone from my list but available elsewhere where I could swap the music. Here's that notice:

Earlier, I got a different notice that seems to be what your link discusses:
Your video "Rusty dogged me" has been identified by YouTube's Content Identification program as containing copyrighted content which UMG claims is theirs.

Your video "Rusty dogged me" is still available because UMG does not object to this content appearing on YouTube at this time. As long as UMG has a claim on your video, they will receive public statistics about your video, such as number of views. Viewers may also see advertising on your video's page.

I panicked and subbed out the music, but maybe next time I'll let it go and see what happens.

Yeah I think you should give it a try and see what it does next time. If you're not happy with the result then you can remove the video. I guess some companies are going to more willing to share than others but it would be nice if they could all do the ad thing then it's a win-win situation... fat cats don't play that way though sadly.

Oh that's interesting, UMG probably didn't mind you using it, and they are a big company, if not the biggest.

I dunno. The very first notes I got were the same as the UMG claim. But after a few weeks, I got another one saying the publisher decided to remove them.

I'm wondering if they're just allowing the ones that get hundreds of thousands of hits. That would interest advertisers.

They don't make it easy that took 15 minutes to match the names with the artists. That's just the soul list, and I recognized most of those songs, but some of the genres only have one or two artists, and many I have never heard before. I think the Blues and a genre called "R" had some good titles, Ray Charles song "Mess Around" is there, it seems like you used that once before didn't you? Anyway, it's a good song.

The latest from youtube. A while back, they told me I had to swap out the song King of the Mountain for one of the youtube choices. I chose "Mess Around" by Ray Charles. Today, I got the below note, which says that I have to sub out the Ray Charles song. Ugh.

Well that sucks, it seems like they could charge users a small fee for the use of the song, one dollar for example, seems reasonable.

I have a feeling your name has been spotted, and there are some people who work privately finding U-tubes to turn in, I guess they get some type of reward from the music firms. Do you have any subscribers to your videos that you don't know? I think there is someone called Vietnam vet who turns lots of people in.

Seems odd that one of there best songs was deleted, too many people liked it?

I'll bet youtube officials are miserable about this too. It's hard to believe they have the time to contact me out of the millions of users they have.

I just wish there was a better alternative. I don't like any of their music for video purposes.
