Now we love the rutabagas, sometimes you have to acquire a taste for them. They're waxy on the outside, so kind of hard to peel, and really hard to cut in to pieces..But, you just peel, cut, cook until tender, then mash them with a lot of butter, salt and pepper..They're from the squash family I believe. When we first had them(tradition on his side), I wasn't too fond of them, but, now, I love them.. |

One thing that my family LOVES is squash pie. Make it exactly like pumpkin pie except use butternut or acorn squash. It has a slightly different flavor, but its really good! Green bean casserole sounds good. Anyone have a recipe that doesn't use canned soup? Like all home made from scratch? I'm gluten free, cant use it. |

That's the one I am doing. In fact, it's finished and in my freezer already! :) |
My mom makes the best green bean casserole. If I can get the recipe out of her before Thanksgiving, I'll give it to you. I might not be able to, though because she's been busy with work. (she works for a card company; so, she's really busy this time of year.) |
I can't wait for Thanksgiving now. I will have about 30 or so people coming so I have doubled and trippled some of the recipes. Many people are bring some things too so that will help :D My only stress will be keeping everyone from trying to hold the little babies. I figure I will post a sign outside the nursery stating... PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB...:) Hopefully that won't seem rude! Yorkies first!! :aimeeyork |
Sweet Potato Apple Casserole YUM YUM!!!! I know it sounds kinda wierd, but it is sooooo good. And it's truly a southern recipes (North Carolina :p) 2 med. sized Sweet Potatoes, peeled and sliced 2 cups tart apples, peeled and sliced 2 cups mini-marshmallows 3/4 cup sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 cup butter 1/2 tsp salt 2 tbs corn starch Slice potatoes, put in 2 quart casserole, cover with apples and marshmallows. Mix dry ingredients and sprinkle over the top. Dot with butter. COVER and bake 1hr at 325 degrees. I usually double the sweet potatoes and apples, but keep everything else (except for the cinnamon, salt, corn starch) at the same amount. I add one cup sugar if the recipe is doubled. I don't like using soooo much butter so I found the 1/2 cup for the doubled ingredients is good! |
Thanksgiving was a total success. I especially got rave reviews on the squash casserole!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!! |
I got a request to bring it for Christmas!! :) |
