I'll be making pies. Here are pics of my pies from last year. One pecan, one apple and one pumpkin. I also make little dough cookies with cinnamon sugar (because my grandma used to make them for us with left over dough - but now that I started making them I realized she probably just made extra dough so she could make them for us).

Your pies are BEAUTIFUL! I can't make pie crust for crap! I leave the pies to my sister and I make the cakes!

When I bake a turkey, I start by rinsing it really well and patting dry with paper towels. I brush it with olive oil, use seasoned salt and pepper and put it in a huge pan with a lid on it. If you cook a small one, I'd bake at 375, basting about every 30 to 40 minutes until it's light brown, then remove the lid and let bake until golden brown and the crust looks slightly crunchy. (I always buy one with one of those little pop up thingies that tell you when it's done. They're not golden brown at that time - so then you remove the lid and cook til golden brown)

That's all I do and mine have always been moist and tender.

we usually deep fry a turkey but I miss that smell that fills the house so I will bake one this year and since I'm from the north an my hubby's family is all down here in the south we usually have a mix of tastes with side dishes every year.

Granpa's oyster stuffing
 
My grandpa made the most awesome oyster dressing. I watched him over the years ,and he taught some of the chosen ones (th eone that can cook) how to make it and all the secrets to why it's soooo good. I think of him and miss him everyday,and making this just makes me happy. :D

My mouth is watering just reading "What's for Dinner". We go to hubby's mother's house where we are joined by his sister and her family our menus is something like this:

Turkey
Ham
Prime Rib
Cornbread Stuffing (no dressing for us :D)
Giblet Gravey
Rolls
Green Beans
Sweet Potato Casserole
Seven Layer Salad
Potato Salad
Deviled Eggs
"Green Jelatin Salad"
"Orange Gelatin Salad"
Fresh Cranberry salad

and several deserts.

There I think everyone alwasy brings home MORE than we take and no one cooks for a week :D

Why is it everytime there is a FOOD post I get an advertising banner at the bottom of my screen that says: I Lost 12 lbs. in 2 weeks . That really takes the fun out of the thread for me :lol tears

I was thinking about making a homemade carrot cake w/a nice & creamy cream cheese icing for this year, does anybody have a really scrumptous recipe for one?? :) I have a really good buttermilk pie recipe if anybody would be interested! I'll be back on this evening!!

Lol, I have been making it for years, it is my g-mas recipe, she has been gone for about 16 years, and when i make it, I always think of her. But thank you, I do enjoy stuffing, but the dressing is just a hit with everyone.

I totally forgot all about the cookies with he cinnamon and sugar! My g-ma used to make them for me, and when i saw the pic, I was like omg! I will have to make those for my kids this year, cause i always have left-over pie crust! Thanks for letting me remanence!
