| ![]() This was posted on another forum, but I think it's interesting. It never hurts to educate yourself. I got this today in an e-mail and thought if anyone wants to share it they could. Check out your own breed as well..... Friends - Tomorrow is Pit Bull Awareness Day! and we need your help to spread the word about these amazing and FABULOUS breed!! For many years, this fabulous, loving breed was known as the "nanny dog" and viewed as a loyal, family friend (it was probably the most popular dog in the early 1900s in America) then very sadly in recent years, this breed has been the subject of cruel breed bans (hello, Denver, CO) and always seems to be blamed in the media for any dog attack or bite (even if later proved to be wrong, it just shows up in tiny print on the corrections page - think you can pick out a pit bull - check out Pet Pitbull - Find the Pit Bull), is often not even allowed to be adopted from many shelters (we greatly applaud those shelters that do not cave to the media hype) and often is subject to undue prejudice and fear from the public due to hyped up media reports. The pit bull now faces discrimination beyond belief (from breed bans, to homeowners associations to insurance companies and on and on). Let's get the truth out there about this great breed! We've included some very interesting facts on the breed - including facts like that they are "No more vicious than golden retrievers, beagles or other popular dogs! In a recent study of 122 dog breeds by the American Temperament Testing Society (ATTS), pit bulls achieved a passing rate of 83.9%. That's as good or better than beagles ... 78.2%, and golden retrievers ... 83.2%. How did your favorite breed do? See for yourself: ATTS.org" (quoted from Bad Rap : Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pitbulls).
