I agree 100%. It is very hard to know who celebrates what in this big worldwide family of ours. For me the way we celebrate holidays such as Christmas and Easter has absolutely nothing to do with religious aspect of these days -- they were never meant to be Santa Clause and Easter Bunny. I do not celebrate All Hallows Eve -- but I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the Halloween tradition of dressing up and Trick or Treating. Bobby - It is so very nice of you to spend your valuable time sending personal messages, and it was nice of this person to kindly ask that you not send "holiday" messages.... maybe just a plain ole "Hello, I'm thinking about you!" |
If something offends me, i dont look at it and delete it... but i am one of those people that that writes Xmas instead of Christmas :rolleyes: |

Wow! I didn't know that (obviously), and that is a VERY cool fact!!!! NOW, I am sorry If I offended anyone, but it is just one of those little pet peeves that I have, and obviously I see I am not the only one. The sad reality is that we live in a world where everyone feels the need to be "politically correct". |

I think there is more of a need for "political correctness" because we all now can communicate with the whole world. Years ago, unless you were from a large city, you didn't learn the differences in cultures; and thought that the same things that bothered you, and your small community bothered others as well. Now, with television and Internet, we communicate globally, and I believe it important to be sensitive to other cultures and beliefs. Most of us don't offend people purposely, but just as a result of ignorance of others beliefs. By the way, not everyone feels the need to be politically correct, have you ever listened to a rap song? |
I don't think this country is politically correct at all. It seems like most everyone expects people to be sensitive to other religious holidays and beliefs. We can't change the names of their holidays to make it "politically correct" but we have to say "holiday tree" for a "christmas tree". I'm sorry, but Christmas is a religious holiday and it has been turned out to be very commercialized and now everyone celebrates it whether they believe or not. The meaning of Christmas has been forgotten and that's really sad. A pine tree placed in the house is a Christmas tradition and always has been a Christmas tradition and now all the sudden it's a "holiday tree". Sorry, to me, it's a Christmas tree and always will be and I will always call it that. |

Sweetie .... you never offend me. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Xmas, Rosh Hashana, nothing bugs me. I respect everyone no matter their religion or orientation or what-the-heck-ever label the world decides to put on someone (which sucks to me, labels suck!) , and hopefully everyone respects me, .... and this is how life should be. :) I love you because you send me those messages almost daily even when you can't find time you do it anyhow, even if I don't respond back, even when I can't, Even when I couldn't figure out how to post one back, you helped me figure out how... Even on my bad days. Even on my good days. You just never know. Sometimes your messages hit me when I was having a bad day .... And they brightened me right up. You bring me back to reality sometimes, Bobbi ... you never need to apologize to me. :) |
You are one of the sweet members in this site, and I have received many Halloweens, stuff, that is the only festive day that We (hubby and I) don't care for it, but I do respect people, heck I even went to the San Francisco Halloween the orginizer and friend of mine made clear that you don't have to dress your babies, it was a blast to see the little yorkies there to cute, but I will NOT spend a penny on that. In Panama my town is very dark day we have to much influence from Haiti, brujeria, stuff like that even is been report it of open cascade in the cementer:eek:and people doing all kind of crazy stuff. None of my family celebrate that day:animal-pa |
You are sooooo sweet! Bobbi! I love when I get those sweet pictures and beautiful little messages (Halloween or other)!! My "door" is always open!! Kate |

I really loved the messages you sent me . I am always happy to read them . |
holidays are special, to a child, to a senior citizen, to a person in a nursing home, look at the light in someone's eye's when they see a CHRISTMAS TREE lit, or a lone candle in the window. It brings us all memory's of family, friends and sharing. Everyone needs to learn to let people celebrate THEIR holidays and take no offense, as I celebrate mine in my own special way. PS.. you can send me anything anytime and not upset me because a holiday isn't mine. I hope I know enough about the holiday to know it's meaning and that a friend thought of me that day. |
I, for one, am offended! I don't think you sent me the Halloween picture! :( Just kidding. ;) Sure you did! Halloween is my favorite holiday, but I do respect people who ask politely not to receive them. I think that's classy, actually. |
I don't "celebrate" Halloween, but my therapy dog, Cosmo, has several Halloween costumes and he will wear one to the children's library. The kids get a big kick out of it. I'll have some candy for the kids who come to my door on Halloween, too. No big deal. I love seeing them in their costumes. I'll bet that almost 100% of the kids celebrating Halloween don't have any idea what the original holiday was. It's just a fun time for them. I am happy to celebrate any holiday someone else celebrates and cares to share with me. That's what friends are for! |
Thank You! All Of You! You have made me feel a lot better. The person who asked me not to send them, was very sweet and I respect that. I really didn't think about anyone being offended. It reminds me of the 4th of July. I was sending things to all of my friends... not thinking that the people in England might not appreciate it. Thank heavens they understood. I even celebrated with a friend in Canada on their 4th. I love holidays because they tend to bring friends and family together. And that is always a good thing. So, If I goof up and accidently celebrate something that you don't, please just delete it. I love all of my friends and I want to always help them feel better just knowing someone cares. Hugs to all of you, Bobbi |
Bobbi, I think it's wonderful that you take so much time out of your day just to make sure that all your friends are treated special. It's a lot of work to send everyone something on their profiles. Ecspecially all your friends. :D Thanks for sending such nice comments and special little notes for us to enjoy. You are truly a great lady that never meets a stranger. Keep up the good work. |
I'm not offended at all. I have friends who have differing beliefs, and you would be surprised how many people celebrate Halloween in such a positive and spiritual way. Heres a fun fact I learned: Trick or Treating was 'started' a long time ago when some people believed it was good luck for a stranger to come to your door to beg for a bit of food. Well, small villages didn't get many visitors. So to ensure everyone had good luck, they would wear disguises and beg for food at each others doors! Dont mind me, lol, Im fascinated by little facts like this. :D |
