HELP! HELP!! Am I going to Freeze???
 

HELP HELP!!!
I'm a Texan who has been moved to near the Canadian Border like 2 & 1/2 months ago... Ok, Eastern WA State, NEAR the Canadian Border.... and it's friggin cold already. :eek: And it's OCTOBER. O-C-T-O-B-E-R, it is in the low 50's..... every night is in the 30's this week now, and Thursday they predict 29 degrees. :snow:ROFLMAO... mama mia. In Texas they called this WINTER! Here they call it AUTUMN! They also predict "a wintry mix". I never heard a Wintry Mix til January in Texas, and even then it was an idle threat, which only occured on occasion thereby shutting an entire city of 2 Million people down. I have two measly plants I got to bring with me (just cuttings/babies actually, since the Movers wouldn't take my whole plants) and they are both succulents, a Sansivera (Snake Plant) and Aloe Vera.... these babies gotta go inside like "Now!".

Ok... so I got my long undies (silky ones), fleece vest, down vest, I already have a fleece suit for my Abbie (for those days it got that cold in Texas, and indeed it did..but like I said, for a DAY or 2!), my Shih Tzu is covered,.. she has a double coat and is built for this weather, ...etc, ad nauseum, I even got myself some snow boots that go to -40. Are the snow boots overkill? YES, probably, but.. I am a WIMP!!! I'm from the Desert Southwest! AAAH!! :eek: We only got into the 20's every now and then and only for about a few hours, .... there it was fun! Here, it is a Reality!!

Don't say "move back to Texas". No way Jose, I'm with my Hubby! ;) I go where he goes, PLUS I like it here! I get to hide my flab under heavier clothing, which is a true blessing for my ego ("My, I look good in this Parka. Rrrrrowr, I am muy sexy!") and just cuz I like cooler weather.

Plus my neighbors have a bet going when they will hear me say "its' cold!".. well it was YESTERDAY, but no one was out for me to tell. hehehe... perhaps they were cold too? ;)

HAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!!! Born in Canada - raised in Rhode Island and now in Texas I know EXACTLY What you're talking about...I do NOT miss that cold.

and yes - that IS autumn weather... so suck it up

ps - I'm in shorts and a tank top as I type this...:D the only long underwear I'm going to see this winter is in magazines

So I have Two Prior generations of Texans in my family shaking their heads from their graves at me going "aha... see, we didn't move there for a reason". LOL!! Of course, they were all CZECH, so this type of land is what we're used to.. yeah, I'll keep telling myself that, part of my Ancestry is USED to this type of climate.... yes... yes.... ... yes.... we are snow people at heart,.. yes. (ok, let me go put on another layer now)..

OMG...I absolutely LOVED reading through your "memoir" of the autumn days! Especially since I'm from Minnesota, now living in South Carolina!! You see, I'm one of the smart ones!! ;) hehe

Trust me, it will get cold, and those boots are NOT overkill---you'll need them, honey, when you're shoveling your car out of 3 ft of snow!

i also live in washington. i live in spokane by the afb. it has definatley gotten colder. i am from arizona and i dont like this cold weather either. yet i dont like to melt!! ha,ha

True! So far I like this better than melting in heat. Ask me again in.. well, I wuz gonna say ask me in the winter, but... ask me in a a.a.. couple weeks (see, I'm already studdering from the cold)...

I have it worse, I get the humidity, I get the rain, I get the frost, I get the snow, then I get the cold without the snow and those days look so drab.
I do have a wonderous picture window in my living room which opens to a view of a vineyard, at present were we have viewed several times wild life . such as a flock of wild turkeys not just a month ago fly past and land in my yard to feast, and several deer hop over the vines as their stag led the way to safety. Alas this scenery will soon be a memory they sold the vineyard and it will be developed into a subdivision.

Who ever said we were supposed to look good and stay warm. I want to stay warm.

You might wanna ditch that shovel and look into a snow BLOWER :p

Oh boy!! I Will!!! I already told the Neighbor to have her camera ready to You Tube it when I'm out making Snow Angels like a friggin' old nut. (they say wait a few weeks, then I'll not be so happy about snow? LOL).

Yes, Villette... my husband is already in the market for a Blower. Neighbors say "neigh".. Husband says "yeah".. LOL!

Considering it's technically FALL Season....you may want to go back to The Habitat Store and trade those cute silk long undies for some actual THERMAL long underwear

oh ...and snow angel pictures would be nice too. I can see it now...you'll have on so many layers of clothes you won't be able to stand back up...they'll have to come dig your cold hard body out of the snow

we'd like pictures of that too.

It is funny that you mention snow angels. I am from Miami so I never really experienced snow until about 5 years ago, and the first thing I wanted to do was make a snow angel, but I never came to the realization that snow was wet LOL. In movies you always see them making snow angels and they get up dry. I knew snow was wet but never put two and two together that you will get wet when you try to make a snow angel.

LOL! And winter isn't even here yet!! Just wait till you have to shovel FEET of snow!! LOL I live in Central Mass, right in the middle of the snow belt so I know all about cold and snow!

Just wanted to send some "fish out of water" love to the OP. When I moved up North for the first time, people laughed at my winter gear -- my heaviest peacoat and scarves etc. I was told where to go and what material to buy BUT it wasn't until the snow hit my friends realized how clueless I was -- my dear dear roomie noticed that I wore my scarf "funny" -- I was wearing it like everyone back home in GA did -- then she bundled me up correctly.... I WAS SOOOO MUCH WARMER. So whatever you get, make sure you know how to use it optimally. ;)

Mommy!!!!!!!!!!! Help. I dunno how. I wore my fleece w/ my long undie top (a beautiful silky blue turtleneck) yesterday and I was still ..a tad chilly. How doest one wear their scarf correctly? Please advise. Over the face?

I understand you, comming from Panama (tropical) to here in California, brrrr, now I love the weather in here and when I go to Panama is just to hot:rolleyes: you should see the look that my sisters give me ha,ha:p

Since I am in MI, I experience horrible humidity. I have heard that we have it worse than most. I can handle heat, but not humidity. I hate cold as well. I don't even know why I still live here, lol!! We are the most extreme state as far as weather. We can have it be 80 and humid one day, and then the next night there can be frost or a chance of snow flurries. Then we get all that lovely "lake effect" snow, which turns to blizzard conditions several times a season, and its worse on the west side of the state, where I am. Then on top of that, we have the second (or is it third?) worst economy (and governer *cough cough*) in the country. Plus, I am a rancher girl. I grew up on a horse farm and MI is not the place to be right now for that. I long for TX like Sandy Cheeks does, I'm a cowgirl at heart :D

Bundle up.. it is just starting! We are in Saskatchewan, Canada and it does get cold... you will climatize but will be wishing for warm weather just like the rest of us! lol And yes you will treasure those warm boots yet!!

Sorry, but that is Autumn!! Just wait for winter! Being in RI, we are having pretty much the same weather as you right you -- and yes it's cold, but you haven't seen anything yet! Although, since the "global warming" we haven't seen temps below 0 here in a few years, so maybe that's the upside? Sorry!!

Sharon, better get used to it . . as I am told we are in for about the same as last year, unless the prediction is incorrect . . .don't worry, you will be fine, especially since right now you are not working (lucky you :rolleyes:) . . just stay indoors and you will be cozy snuggling with Jade and Abbie :)

Hey I want to join the get-together when that happens . . I cannot believe there are 3 of us now in Spokane . . yipee kayay . . .

btw everyone, Sharon and I had lunch 2 saturdays ago and she totally ROCK! The only negative thing about her is she says she is the baby between the 2 of us :eek: because it just so happens she is a year younger :rolleyes:
