Who knows how to use a curling iron? Everytime i curl my hair the curls never stay, after like 10 minutes they fall and it's just wavy. I have long hair btw, even when i use hairspray. Anyone know what i can do to make them stay? |
When are you using the hairspray? .....My daughter has long baby fine hair and she uses a curling iron a lot.... the only way she can keep her curls in all day is she winds the hair around the wand then she sprays it with the hair spray and lets it sit for about a minute before she unrolls it from the wand. After all her hair is curled she just shakes it out....... |
Well see the thing is when i went to the hair salon the lady that curled it said she doesn't put anything until after its all done cause my natural hair texture will keep it curled and she only put a little hair spray after it was all done and then ran her fingers thru it and it lasted like 4 days! Im like ok..what am i doing wrong? I did that and it barely lasted. And i asked her what curling iron she used and she said any ceramic one, that you just have to know how to do it right. When your daughter does it, is it soft or does the hairspray make it hard? Cause i like the very soft curls, i think i need a good hairspray to use |
I thought the same thing when I saw her doing this so I asked her the same thing, if hair if her hair was hard....I felt it and it wasn't, her hair is soft when she's done.....maybe it has to do with the spray.....all I've sen her use is stuff like Pantene and Rave, nothing fancy......I don't know much about hair myself, I just clip and go....;) maybe more members will have some more advise for you.. |
My stylist and I both like Kenra hairspray. Have you tried working a bit of gel or extra hold mousse through your hair before drying? Also make sure the iron is very hot and that you let your hair cool completely before styling. |

Yep, you have to do very small sections at a time. When I curl my hair, I usually spray it once before wrapping it around the curling iron, and then once afterwards. I have super straight hair but not thin, so it's really hard to get it to stay curly when it's long because it's heavy. When I got married, I had super long hair, and I wanted it curly and half up for the wedding...Well, I curled it all and styled it that morning, but by the time of the wedding, all the curls were out, and I walked down the aisle with straight hair :) I didn't take the time to curl small sections at a time and spray it once before and once after, so the curls came out a lot quicker than they should have. |
:) I use a flat iron to curl my hair, i find it holds better:) |
It's about like a flat iron... the better the flat iron, the longer your hair will stay straight. Same thing goes with a curling iron. Although, my hair is really thick and straight so it doesn't hold curl at all. |

That is a good idea, i will buy some pins to pin it up after each curl and see if that works:thumbup: |

Yup thats like mine, its long and i guess its heavy too. It used to be a lot thicker. I cut it not that long ago and its long again so its very hard to keep the curls in. At first when i take off the curling iron it looks sooo pretty but then as im doing the other half of my head the bottom curls have already fallen:rolleyes: I wish the stylist would tell me what curling iron she uses, cause i think thats the problem. She only used hair spray at the end and it looked so pretty and wavy, curly. No fair:( I feel like calling the salon and asking but i dont want to be rude, what do you think? |

I don't know much about curling hair as I'm always straightening mine:laugh: But, I saw you mention that you have those pesky flyaways, me too!! Biolage makes "shaping creme wax" that works for me, it doesn't look greasy at all and it really tames those suckers. A little goes a loooong way, too, I've had the same jar for months and it's still 3/4 full:D |
my hair is thin and it takes forever to curl too. my cousin who's a hair stylist told me to use a curling shampoo and conditioner. after that, use a curl-heat spray before you iron your hair. it protects your hair from the eat and amplifies the curl. curling section by section, pin up the curls with pins to let it cool and then let it down and shake it out and use a finishing spray. it makes my hair last for the entire night. |

Last x-mas one of those vendor carts were doing hair demos using Jose Eber brand curling and flat irons. I reluctantly let the girl curl my hair thinking, oh this isn't going to hold. (My hair is thick & when I curl my hair I would use hairspray on it while it was still wrapped around the iron.) She did 3 perfect Shirley Temple curls and I didn't have any styling product in my hair. I pulled my fingers through it and it didn't fall. I running my fingers through my hair and it stayed curly. Needless to say, I bought the flat iron and curling iron. Later I bought a smaller iron off of Ebay for cheaper. The flat iron is tons better than the one I had from Walgreens and it has a temp dial that goes up to 400 degrees. One of my co-workers uses a Chi flat iron and she hascurly hair. When she irons her hair it is stick-straight and looks gorgeous! Good luck.:) |

Curling Irons and Product Reviews |
mine don't stay long either... my hair is too thin, soft and straight... I guess the one who have it curly want it straight and the ones with straigh hair want it curly :) Hairdresses must have secrets when they do stuff, they always last!!! I guess they don't want you to know, otherwise nobody would go to them :) |

Just to give you a little heads up on some things so you want go waste your money. I'm a hairstylist and I think if you are interested in a straight iron, you can get a Cricket Friction Free Straight iron on ebay for around $40.00. They work great and I compare them to a Chi all the time. I sell alot of them. They heat to the same temp and work great. The other thing you need to try is a bottle of Chi Volume Booster. this is a liquid bodifying glaze that will hold your hair without making it sticky one bit. I had a girl come in and she has long straight hair....well she sprayed this in when it was damp and blow dryed it then curled her hair. It held the curl and her hair was soft. Sooo I started using it in my shop and it's a great product that doesn't weigh your hair down with all that goop. if you know what i mean. hope this helps |
I found this.... it might talk about some good tips. The Best Way To Curl Your Hair |
I use a flat iron also! My curls last for days. It's tough and takes time getting used to is SO worth it. It also helps if you let the curl cool before you spray it. Check out this video! |
