Is it possible for me to have broken a bone in my foot (NO IDEA how) but for it not to hurt when i'm not on it. It is almost excruciating when I walk on it but when i'm sitting there is a mild pain but nothing unbearable... I feel like i live at my doctors and don't want to go AGAIN ... anyone have any thoughts what it could be. It started suddenly one day... and all i can think of is i'm wearing new Birkenstock shoes.. but i got them like months ago and thus far.. no issues... any help is great... i don't want to go to the doctors if it is nothing and will go away.. it's been here for a bout 4 days... and is getting worse :p but i haven't had any trauma to the foot...

Well I'm not a nurse, but what part of your foot hurts?
I'm wondering if you could have a or be forming a bunion. I had foot surgery a year ago and the pain when I walked kept getting more and more intense. It was ok when I wasn't on my feet.

Yep - when I broke my toe, it really only hurt when I was on it; and of course, there is nothing you can do for a toe. But you don't recall any trauma? Gosh it could be anything - a calcification, spur, bursitis, tendinitis. Gout can cause terrible foot pain...

its the bones right behind my toes... and only the centre of that area.. i can feel the actual bone that hurts.... well because i can't touch it.. it hurts too bad...

With that said..... I dont like to go to the doctor either :rolleyes:

Hmm, doesn't sound like a bunion.
I would suggest going to a podiatrist or Orthopedic and having it checked out since it's hurting you that much. There are so many things it could be with your feet!

I think FLTink is an Orthopedic nurse, I wonder if she's on. Gosh, hon - I think you may need an x-ray :(. It may not be from a trauma, but it could be from something else. This is the last thing you need, huh???!!!

honestly ann.... i am almost embarassed to go back.... she's gonna see me and roll her eyes... lol...

things work differenty in Canada.. i can't just go to an orthopaedic doctor.. i have to be referred from my doctor.

I have to get my second Hep A shot (from doing to the dominican) so maybe il'l do both at once...

Every once in a while I get that pain on the bone behind my toes too. It goes from my baby toe to my middle toe. It's not too bad for me (most of the time) but I'm also interested to know.

Do you mean in the forefoot? Sounds like it could be a stress fracture to me. I suggest going to a podiatrist. I had a stress fracture a couple of years ago. It came on after wearing new shoes. I had to wear a cast boot for several weeks until it healed. Just be aware that 50% of all stress fractures don't show up on x-rays. My stress fracture was the start of many unrelated foot problems. My podiatrist has become one of my best friends unfortunately! And most of what they do does not hurt. BTW, I am an RN.

I had a very similar pain a couple months ago. It ended up being a ligament that was swollen. When I wasn't on my foot it was only a mild discomfort but I couldn't walk at all. It was a horrible pain. The pain only lasted about a couple weeks, but it was HORRIBLE. I would suggest that you go to the doctor and get it checked out though because it may be something else. I hope you feel better soon :) Foot pain is perhaps one of the most annoying pains. :(

I've broken a bone in the top of my foot before while jumping a weight rope. My coach taped it up and I finished practice (didn't know it was broken). Sounds like you need an xray, sister. At least you'll know for sure if there is a fracture.

lol you should NOT have said you are an RN.. lol... Ann can tell you that i'm frequent with the PM's.. and now that i know another one ;)

ok ladies.. i'm calling tomorrow and i'll see if i can get in Friday> My doctor is observing a religious holiday and has limited hours but hopefully she'll see me!!! otherwise walk- in clinic.. here i come :)

A regular doctor probably doesn't have enough knowledge of the feet; like I say, many stress fractures don't show up on x-ray. You can start there but consider getting a referral to a podiatrist if you need a referral to go to one. You can PM me anytime! I can relate to foot pain. I was just diagnosed yesterday with a torn ligament, so here I am once again with my foot up and in a boot, and will have crutches tomorrow. I think they say misery loves company?

I hope you don't either. I can tell you that the boot really offloads the foot and makes it feel much better. A torn ligament is much harder to heal than a stress fracture. I have been fighting this for 4 months, not realizing it was a torn ligament. My doc is good, but my symptoms were not consistent with a torn ligament and I pretty much demanded that she test me for it. She was quite surprised at the outcome. Anyway, surgery is needed if it does not heal, so I am being a very good girl. Please let me know what the doctor says!

OMG girl get yourself to the doctor already! not worth waiting! AND you know if you don't go this week it will get worse over the weekend and it will be excrutiating and you will have to wait until Monday! Just go! ;)

I know your pain! When I had my foot surgery, I was in a boot for 12 weeks! I could not put ANY weight on for the first 8 weeks and had to rent this scooter thing from a pharmacy that you put your knee on to get around. Needless to say I got plenty of stares wherever I went and then I was on crutches for another 6 weeks after that! It was the longest recovery I've ever had from anything!

If the pain is right behind the outer three toes, it could be Morton's Neuroma. Look it up on the Internet for information. I had that years ago and one injection cured it!

So.. after goign to the walk in today.. apparently i have soft tissue damage and the treatment is advil and new shoes... :rolleyes: we'll see.. i've been taking advil and it does nothing... hopefully he is right nad it goes away soon.

That sounds like a diagnosis a walk-in clinic would give. I really do urge you to see someone who knows what they are talking about. Foot injuries can be very hard to diagnose properly, even by an expert and getting the wrong diagnosis can set you up for months of needless pain. I took Advil for my stress fracture and it did nothing.

i had/have a stress fracture of the 4th metatarsal in my left foot....i walked on it for almost 4 months thinking it was just strained....well i wore a boot for 4 weeks and it hurt worse than going without the boot.....but it didnt heal....i evidently went too long without going to the ortho doc.....and last x-ray still showed the bone not connecting....the only way to fix it is surgery and my doc says as long as it is bearable that i would be better off without the surgery....cause to fix it would take screws and with my history of degenerative disc disease in my back...more than likely the bones will never mend together......so good luck...i really do have alot of pain in mine anymore unless i have to stand still for a long time.....good luck sweety....and go for a second opinion

Well i'm planning on going in next week for the 2nd Hep A shot and if it is still bothering me then i'll bring it up with her.. she is so great... takes what i say seriously!

I agree with Gracie. I think it might be a stress fracture. I am a school nurse, and see alot of these related to sports injuries. Go to your doctor and if she thinks you need a specialist, she can refer you. Hopefully she can help you, so your not out alot of money. Good luck!! :aimeeyork

Thanks for the help :) Luckily, in Canada, all of the care that i *hopefully* wont' need for this stupid foot... is free! I really just hope it goes away :p
