| Hiya everyone, I am writing a story for a my Creative Writing Class and one of the characters in my story is going to be a Jewish girl and I have a couple of questions about the culture and religion of Judaism. Please forgive me if I sound absolutley clueless or asking dumb questions, I just really dont know much about the culture or religion. I didn't want to just look it up online because I wanted to get the opinions of my fellow Yorkietalkers, a common brain storm, lol! Just a few things I need cleared up on. 1. What would be a tradditional Jewish girl name? Something aristocratic and strong? 2. What would be a tradditional and maybe important jewish last name? The character is going to come from a wellknown jewish family, so if you know of any good surnames please let me know! 3. My jewish friends have told me that after a loved one passess away they will go to their rooms and pray for like hours with a shawl over their heads. Am I remembering this correctly and if so, what is it called? If I haven't remembered correctly please let me know what this tradition is and what it is called. 4. What are the best Jewish day schools?

| I am Jewish on my mom's side of the family. Some pretty common Jewish names are Rachel, Esther, Rebekah (Yes it is spelled like that), and Josephine. The most common in my family is Esther we have 7 women in my family named Esther. My family's surnames are Barrocas and Bernstein but there are many good Jewish Surnames. Yes this tradition is called the Shiva. If you just google you will get a vast amount of information about it. Jewish Day schools? I have no idea. I am sorry I can't help with that one. ![]() Good luck with your project and research will be vital in your project. Hope I helped a little.
