I'm amazed too Connie !~ I'm just 15 mins from downtown and the only one I know of that has power - (hardly any water) but do have power....I feel so bad for everyone. there's still people MIA that I wish I could talk to and make sure they're ok :(

I tried to get my mom and dad to come sleep in my bed & I'd take the couch - but my dad would rather sweat it out in his OWN bed lol - :D

ps WE HAVE NO CELL PHONE SERVICE so far in Houston - so for those trying to reach friends that way - keep trying

Oh Villette...I was wondering if you stayed home alone. I'm glad you are and the girls are safe...if hot. We lost power for almost 3 weeks after Isabel. The nights were the worst.

Kimmee's mom lives about 65 miles outside of Houston in Tomball. She says...they're okay but no power.

I have been praying and thinking of all of you since Ike arrived. I'm so pleased you have come through it ok. I hope the rest of the yorkie community down that way are alright too. Prayers will continue for all affected by the storm.

I can't believe 3 weeks with no power - and yes it's very hot - on the upside - this week we're dropping temps WAY down and I HOPE This helps those with no power. The worse part is no contact. I heard The Yorkiecrazy's neighborhood lost theirs so I have someone who is susposed to check on them if they're home....

and I'm glad Dwana made it thru this - even Tomball lost power ?? WOW - that's a good distance from Houston...tell her I said hi if you talk to her

Villette, I just heard from Denise (Gismo's Mom), she just emailed me, they are ok but their area is flooded. She hasn't gotten home yet, so she doesn't know the condition of her house. Gizmo got sick, too hot for these poor babies. I am so relieved to hear from her, I was thinking the worst.

Let's keep parying for all these families that have gone thru this terrible storm and now have to face the aftermath. :hands:

:(IF this is any help or if anyone knows people in Clear Lake - my sister lives there (near Nasa - Kemah area) & they DO have power - They just went home after staying at my moms - The house was ok...trees are down ....but it looks like that area wasn't hit as bad as I feared.

I just have to say that I LOVE that you were keeping the girls calm and that they were smothering you with kisses...that was the sweetest thing I've read in a while. Through the storm there are still precious moments to be had. The fact that you held on to your husband's ring is also heartwarming. I'm sure he had a hand in watching over you! aaawww thank you. I feel even more lucky - I found out yesterday that my apartment complex & area DID lose power except my little courtyard ....Houston is still in bad shape and it's going to take a while to get the city back up and running - but Galveston and areas - OMG. It's just heartbreaking

Villette- I talked to Dwana ( Kimmee's Mom) yesterday, she is still without power, they are ok just HOT and cranky.

:(:(:( if it's any help the temps dropped to pretty cool this am - that should help at least with the 'hot' part - Do they have food and water ??

She said she cooked all the meat a few days before hand and they have a motor home with a generator to cook and they plug in the fridge every 4 hours or so..so that's good.

Hey V...how close are you to say...a hospital or nursing home facility? That may explain why you have power. I know here...those areas had first priority...and then the priority was the number of people they could get back up and running. When I didn't have power for 3 weeks....a friend of ours had hers back in under 24 hours. She stopped telling people this...cause it made people really :mad: . Heat makes ya grouchy ya know.

You're near downtown? My whole family is displaced right now from the storm. My grandmother is here with us in Alabama, but her apt. is in the Galleria area and we heard it did ok and the power's back up. I have family in Clear Lake and they haven't been able to make it back, but they've heard it's not good at all. I have a house on Lake Conroe and a lot of my family evacutated to there and they said we were LUCKY even that far north. We are right across from the marina and it's GONE! The boats are everywhere! Neighbors on both sides of us have trees in their houses! I don't know how we didn't get damage (our whole back is glass), but we didn't! My other grandmother is in a nursing home in Huntsville and they are running on generators, and they might have to move her to College Station.

No I'm really not - I'm 15 mins from downtown who has NO power and most all of my apartment Complex has no power...There's only 300 units - mostly townhomes and they have nothing but yet my little courtyard does.

I can relate to your neigobor - I DO feel guilty - Every single person I know (except one friend) has no power ...actually most of the area hit has nothing :( There's relief areas all over town handing out food and water but it's just not enough.....there's too many :(

Champster00 My sister lives in Clear Lake - they went back yesterday to power... I know it's iffy but it may be ok....I know it depends on what PART of Clear Lake they live.

I'm glad your family was ok at Lake Conroe - I've seen the pictures and it's just unreal

and thanks Carol - I am SO glad I played Carpenter but you're right - it was the scariest night I think I've ever been thru. I kept thinking of Katrina who went thru so much worse but when you actually are hearing it - it's very VERY humbling and your thoughts just race.

Hi everyone! Thanks V for calling and checking on us!! We are hanging in there. Thanks everyone for their prayers!! We are fine but still have no power. My DH got a generator y'day from his office and brought it home. I now have internet! Had to get that going first thing! ;) We did turn it off last night and i am sure the n'bors appreciated that. It is super noisy but that also blocks out all the outside noises that keep the girls barking non-stop! God was good to send us this cool weather just in time. Power is coming on all around us but there was a pole down that carries our little cul de sac and a new pole will have to be planted and rewired before power is restored to us. We lost everything in the frig but we still have MRE's from my son when he came back from Iraq. Our hearts just break when we see the devestation on the TV. It was probably good that we didn't see it through the storm. The girls got so hot the first night w/o power that i gave them a cool bath and put them to bed wet. They are little troopers and haven't complained too much. ;)
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by Ike. My parents are at Lake Conroe and still have no power either. My BIL in Seabrook still can't get back to see if he even has a house left there. This is just unbelievable!! Thanks for all the prayers for us. :hug:

Linda, I'm glad your family is fine. All this hurricane thing is so scary. And being without power really suck. Two years ago we were without power for a week after Wilma, and it was a nightmare. SOme people were out of power for a month!
