Help me find the right engagement ring!
 
Ok! sooo.. There was a thread that was talking about rings. My boyfriend and I are looking for the perfect engagement ring.. He want's to get me one that I want and will be happy with (he thinks if he picked it out i'd totally not like it, which isn't true!) But gives me a reason to go ring shoppin!

Or any other place that's nice (I don't really know about this stuff lol)

Help me pick the right one! (i don't really wear jewelry that much, but I love white gold!) I'm quite fairly girly lol.. so help me!

I like these two..platinum, princess cut. I prefer 3k at least. Hmm maybe that's why I'm not married.

My all time fav rings are from Tacori,and they have them on that site, my fav's are the Koala one and the Penquin one. My DREAM ring! :thumbup:

At least you boyfriend is letting you pick the ring. My boyfriend told his sister-in-law, that he will choose my ring. Yikes, I don't have any idea what he will choose. Not saying I'm expecting something big, I would like to have white gold. How do you hint this to him, when we won't even look at rings togother?

Dont get a marquis cut. Statistically people that have the marquis cut have the highest divorce rate. From what I know of you from on here talking to you and looking at your website I think a princess cut would suit you well or a pear cut (cant remember the name)

We have the same taste. Hmmmm.........Im thinking you are right. Maybe that is why neither of us is married yet. LOL. I dont wear much jewlery but when it comes to an engagement ring I want something that is going to get noticed. Materialistic, yes, but hey, I can be. LOL

Well the good thing about my BF is.. he's soo tuned in to what I want.. and vice versa.. He actually wanted to suprise me, but he thought it'd be better for me to pick out something i'd like..

maybe just mention to your boyfriend that you'd like to ring shop together.. :)

and Kelly thanks for the heads up! i think i'll look at some princess cut rings and maybe those pear cut ones too! i'm SO excited! WOO HOO! :D

Hahahahahhahahaa!!! Kelly, you crack me up everyday! I used to work in a jewelry store and the princess cut is beautiful if the color/clarity is right. If it is too flawed of a diamond the inclusions really show up in that cut. Look for the 4 C's--Color, Cut, Clarity, and Carat ;)

My gramma is up on all kinds of odd statistics so that is where I get that stuff from. Kinda good to know some of the stuff though. You would be amazed at some of the stuff that she tells me though. :shocked7q

Just got thru helping my son pick a diamond for his girlfriend's ring. She picked the shape she wanted (radiant) but then the search began for the right stone - gosh I never knew there was so much to picking the right diamond & how many things determine the cost!!! I think girls mainly look at size & sparkle - but the 4C's as mentioned here were definitely things to consider. First thing to do is know your price range - then pick the shape you are wanting. My son & his girlfriend went to try on rings & certain rings looked better on her hand - she has very small petite fingers & some rings (which she liked & would have picked had she not tried them on) looked terrible! I love the ring he ended up with & know she will too. Fortunately the jeweler told her anything larger than a carat & a half would not look good on her finger. He ended up with a carat & a quarter for about $7000 for the set. GOOD LUCK!!! Maybe go and try some on - you might be surprised what looks best on you!!!

I have always liked the idea of YOU pick out 3-5 rings that are your fav. then your fiance goes and picks one out of those,,, so- Its his choice, but still one that you want,,,and it's still a surprise. ;)

I was going to do this. WE were just shopping around trying on rings so he could see the style i wanted. Well I took him to see a jeweler friend of mine at his house (his jewelry store had burned and was being rebuilt) this friend of mine had asked me over the phone what i was looking for and i told him. The point of meeting with him was just so my husband could get some ideas on how to look for a good ring. Well when we got there he just happened to have a box of engagement rings (about 20) all the style i told him I wanted. So why him and my husband talked I tried on rings. When I slipped my ring on my finger i just knew it was it. It's only about a half carat total (maybe a little more) yellow gold, beautiful princess cut in the center with triangular diamond on each side. I knew it was it. I went nuts. Then the jewelry designed my wedding band together. So my ring is different from everyone elses. Not very big and not very expensive. but it wouldn't of mattered if he would of proposed to me with a plastic ring the important thing to me was spend my life with him.

LOLOL!! Jim wants to get me a 3 carat for our 2 year anniversary - he could only afford a 2 carat when we got engaged. But I love it - it's a beautiful ring and it sparkles like there's no tomorrow. Although I would love a 5 carat rock! hehe

Personally I like the emerald solitaire, I love the princess cut but it seems kinda common now and the emerald cut is very pretty too. My engagement ring is a past present future marquis style and if I could go back now I would have just gotton one large center stone instead of paying for 3 smaller stones.

I know it sounds materialistic to want a big ol rock but I cant help it. I dont expect anything else. I mean, I pay for my house my car and all that other stuff, so why cant he get me a big ol rock??

Me too... thats how I feel. AND is an expression of his LOVE for you... so it should be DAMN big! and you're gonna have it forever,,(hopefully) so make it a good one that will last the test of time! :D

If you don't know much about diamonds learn before you go shopping. I didn't know anything when I went shopping for earrings (from a store in the mall - first huge mistake) and ended up with crap. Long story short, I learned as much as I could before I went to buy a new pair from a jeweler my sister trusted, ended up not spending that much more and they are gorgeous. I catch people looking at my ears all the time. It is really worth the time to learn. Congratulations!!!!
