| Water Bottle Tip I use a Nalgene reusable water bottle everyday. It is amazing how many disposable bottles I used to go through. The only problem I had was that it would get smelly. I found the solution! If you clean them w/baking soda all odors are removed. I couldn't image going back to the other bottles now. Plus, I don't have to lug all that water around from the market to the house. NALGENE | choice

| Thanks for the tip! The smell factor was why I stopped using mine!

| Thanks for that.....we went from reusing our plastic water bottles (we filter water at home), to buying a bottle for each of us and reusing it.

| I'm not sure about the US but in Canada the Nalgene bottles were pulled off the shelves because they were made with the bad stuff that leaches into the water. The code number is 7 underneath. Check to be sure, unless they have come up with new ones in the last 6 months. I had 3 of them and threw them all out. I was so upset about it because I loved them.

| I'm pretty sure the newer Nalgene bottles are all BPA free. I use one and like it but my daughter has a Sigg bottle that I like even better. I'd like to get a few more of those. I was having the same problem with my Britta pitcher (getting an off taste). I soaked it with baking soda and it did the trick. Then I started wondering if the Britta pitchers were BPA free and I can't find anything on their website. Seems silly to use the good water bottles if the water is coming from a bad pitcher so I've stopped using it. Sorry to be a bit OT but does anyone know about the Britta pitchers?

I hope someone can answer. I know Brita and Nalgene have teamed up- my nalgene bottle was a freebie with the pitcher and actually says Brita on it- and since nalgene is really hyping being BPA free, I just assumed Brita was as well. It is concerning that I can't find anything on the Brita site though. I swear the more you think about things you can drive yourself crazy. I make a green tea/herbal tea blend and go through a pitcher every day or two. I make it in the Mr Coffee iced tea maker. It just recently occurred to me to wonder about the plastic in that pitcher. I've had bubble baths and other bath products come in glass packaging with a very thin plastic coating on the outside to make it shatter proof. I wish someone would make kitchen pitchers out of this. It would be perfect- better for the environment, better for us and would last forever.

| the new nalgene bottles are BPA free, and they will usually have a sticker on them saying so. I got rid of my old nalgene because of the BPA. I need a new one. |

| #7 is a tricky little code because it means 'other' and can't be recycled. It might have BPA but it also might not. If the product doesn't say BPA free, I assume it has BPA. The #7 Naglene bottles do say BPA free. I'm still curious about Brita though- can't find a code or any information. I guess I need to email them.

| I must be completely blind! I just went to Brita's website to email and it says right there no BPA.

| We just had this discussion in a school group awhile back....here are some of the notes that I had kept...... Myths about Dioxins and Freezing Plastic Water bottles I have heard that THESE were good....I heard that Target carried them, as well. And a friend only uses Kleen Kanteen stainless steel water bottles - I believe she bought them at our natural (whole foods) store. "According to the news the water bottles that you 'are not supposed to reuse' are numbered 3, 6, or 7 in the recycle triangle. We went through all of ours & we had none with those numbers. The did have shampoo bottles with those numbers. I have found the water bottles that the Special K Protein water comes in to be wonderful! I purchased a bunch of the water at a scratch & dent grocery store for almost nothing (yeah!). They are heavy duty & wash well in the dishwasher. They are similar to the Lifewater bottles, only a little slimmer. " Gardenaut: BPA-Free Water Bottle Showdown Walmart.com: Thermos - Foogo Straw Bottle, Pink, BPA Free: Feeding **I did notice that Wal-Mart had water bottles made by PUR (that makes water filters)...these bottles were back by the hardware section, by the water filters**
