The Great 10-K Challenge
 

THE COMPETITION: MeganS and I have challenged each other to a head-to-head race to 10,000 posts. We agreed that whoever reached 9,990 first had to wait for the other one to catch up. Once we're both at 9,990, we will meet on the same thread and race to 10-K.

(Sorry, had to reply to the last post to make sure I caught her. She was 50 ahead of me earlier tonight)

THE HISTORY: Megan Joined YT in May 2005. I joined in June 2005. She beat me to every significant milestone UNTIL 7,000. When I realized I was a few posts ahead of her, I made a marathon run at 7-K. She caught on to my ploy too late. I beat her to 7-K by several posts.

MEGAN'S REVENGE: After that, she kicked my butt to both 8-K and 9-K. Such a child!

AKYORKIE'S REVENGE: I got hooked on the game threads and found myself several hundred posts ahead of her when she returned from a recent vacation.

THE DEAL: Rather than make a teenager stay up all night trying to catch me, I agreed to wait if she agreed not to pass me. Today, she (apparently) lived up to her end of the deal. She hit 9,982 and sent me an e-mail to tell me I was 50 behind. The brat. So I've been up for the last hour catching her. Which I do with this post.

THE SHOWDOWN: Stay tuned. I'm going to suggest to her that we both hit 9,990, then meet in YT chat to get someone to give us the official GO! First to reach 10-K has eternal bragging rights.

THE TIME: I'm not sure when she's going to be available. I'm going to suggest 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time today.

You can be sure that many of us will be there cheering you both

haha thank you guys! :love: I sent Mike another email - I have work today from 3-7, and I don't think my boss will let me call out for a virtual race. :p So we'll probably end up doing it tomorrow, I think.

Nah, I e-mailed and asked her if we can do it at 5:30 her time tomorrow. Of course, it's a holiday and everyone will probably be gone. No worries. It's a done deal. I'm gonna win.

Megan and I have agreed on 5:30 p.m. Eastern time tomorrow. Either one of us reserves the right to postpone if life gets in the way.

My bets on Megan to win, and Mike to come in a close..... LAST!!!! LOL:D:D

We'll try, honest! I just know that the teenagers in my family struggle with appointments. OK, and there's alway a chance my wife tells me it's childish for us to delay heading out to the last day of the state fair so I can trash talk online with Megan. But I've got preliminary approval. ;)

Well, you know who my money is on. One thing, Mike, I doubt if she'll be able to get into chat on this ancient computer. Has she been in there in the last few months? (Since our other one died and we've been using this one tht someone had in their garage:rolleyes:) I won't be able to be online to cheer her on, but I'll be standing behind her chair.

Are there any "rules" about the posts? Can they be game posts? Do they have to be each in a different category? How about words-can any post be one word, or do they have to be at least 10 words long? I think we should spice this up a little!

Oh, leave it to a MOM to rain on our parade. If she can't make chat, she is disqualified! Nah, we can do the start by phone if we have to.

Just checking in: I'm on for 5:30 Eastern, which is just a little over an hour away.

One more thing: I think Megan is a big baby to have her Mommy looking over her shoulder. How do I know you won't be coaching her? Or typing for her?

Just kidding. She could have a computer tech and a typing coach helping her -- AND SHE'D STILL LOSE!

Edit: Suzy, I just saw your post. I think we're going to have to make all our posts on the same thread, perhaps this one? Otherwise, you'd never know who hit 10-K first. This way, the person who hits 10-K first (me) will be above the person who doesn't hit 10-K first (Megan). If we posted on different threads, no one would like who was leading and which post was the winner. As for number of words, anything goes, but YT has a minimum of 5 characters, I think. The hard part is that YT makes you wait 30 seconds between posts. You can't just rapid-fire send 10 posts.
