hairy monster/wax or shave My bf lives 2 hours away and he comes and stayes with me on weekends. Well since I dont see him all week I always try to look very nice when he first gets here. So I need to go shave my legs (we'll leave it at legs for now:p) ugh and I hate doing it, I really need to start getting waxed:rolleyes: I love to primp and do my hair/makeup but I hate shaving! do you wax and is it really that painful? I get my eyebrows waxed but im sure this is much worse |
Its really not that bad. I prefer to do it myself at my own pace. Just make sure you get high end products from a beauty supply. I use GIGI products. Good luck and congrats on the new bf! You've come a long way!! Go girl! |
Well i've never got my legs waxed, im sure that hurts a lot but i have gotten my bikini waxed lol and that hurt a whooooooooole lot! Srry if it's tmi. I just stick to shaving my legs |
I found a wonderful spray-on hair remover by Sally Hansen. I use the one for extra coarse hair. Spray it on, wait 3-10 minutes, then rinse it off in the shower and wipe gently with a washcloth if needed. I don't see stubble for days and it is so easy! |

I got my bikini area waxed once and only once (when hubby came home on leave from Iraq). My skin is so sensitive I bled! My advice, if you are going to do it, is make sure you do it a day or two before he arrives because it can be pretty sore after and then that defeats the purpose, right? :p Good luck! |
Well, haha, this brings back memories when I was still in school. I wax my own eyebrows, it's painful but so much easier than plucking. I don't think the legs would be very bad but this is coming from someone who has actually waxed their arms (OUCH!). Just always soothe it with aloe or a soothing lotion afterward. Oh and I'd definitely get waxed a few days before you're supposed to see him so you don't have that ugly red inflamed skin. Edited to add: If you bleed bad or have sensitive skin, apply a powder to the area before waxing. |
I have to tell you that a girl at work told me I should wax instead of shave. So she gave me the wax and the strips. I did a couple of sections, cried, and never did it again. I use the cream that you rinse off in the shower - no pain and it makes the hair less course, so if you want to wax it is less painful. |
Thanks to my asian background I don't have much hair, I have wax my eyebrows and that really hurts, but I'm a ck when it comes to pain he,he:p |
I shave my legs but I am addicted to waxing down there. Complete brazilian.:) I think the first couple times you do it, it hurts the most...I pop a motrin half hour before, and I'm good. My waxer is amazing...it's over pretty quickly! |

Also, if you go to a good waxer, they should start from outside the first time to make sure you can take it...some parts (not the ones you would think ;)) hurt worse than others, TRUST ME. But DEFINITELY take an Advil or something about 1 hr before...I did this all but one time, and there was a major difference. Good luck  |
My hair is thick, and I have to shave every week, if I want to be really smooth, I would have to do it every 3 days, but then my skin gets irritated. I tried waxing, I assumed the person that did it was not very experienced, I bleed a bit, I got bruces, and once the hairs started growing back, many of them were ingrown. But if I find somebody good I would do it again, just because of the fact that you can't see those little black hairs for a few days, makes the pain worth it. |
I have gotten my underarms and bikini area waxed..once. It was enough for me. Ill stick to shaving! I did recently hear about this stuff you can get at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, etc. It's called Magic Hair Powder. It is specficially for African-American men, who have coarse hair. I heard that it's really gentle since they use it on their face. You can find it in the shaving section. It works the same way Nair, etc. does, but it doesn't irritate your skin like the others can. I haven't used it yet, though. But Im sure you can find reviews, etc. on Makeupalley.com |
I've tried waxing my legs but I can't stand the pain! So I stick with shaving. I also use a shave minimizing lotion, and I can say it really does work! I used to use Curel but I switched to Jergens (it smells better!). Instead of shaving every 2 days, it extends it to about 4. Now I just use waxing for my eyebrows. I usually pluck my eyebrows but every once in awhile I'll wax to get all those little hairs that I miss with tweezing. And this is kind of embarassing, but I have really really dark hair so in the summer I usually use Nair for the little hairs on my tummy because I'm really self-conscious about it! I'm sure it's not that noticeable, but when I wear a bikini I always feel like folding my arms over my tummy to hide it unless all the hair is gone. I also have dark hair on my arms that I'm self-conscious about but I'm scared to do anything with it. I've tried bleaching a few times but it also bleaches my skin a bit, and that's not a good look for summer! |
There was a really funny story on here about someone's experience with waxing. You should read it before you make your decision...:p |
