My mouth is killing me.. As some of you know, I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed on Monday. The pain wasn't too bad the first couple days but last night and today, I think it is getting worse. It kind of feels like my jaw is getting stiff, it's hard to open my mouth, hard to talk, and when I swallow, it feels very similar to a sore throat. They prescribed ibuprofin and lortab for pain. The lortab did help but I'm out of that already. The ibuprofin just seems to dull the pain. I don't know if I need to call the dr. back or if I just need to tough it out. I have a very low pain tolerance and I don't want to call if I'm just being wimpy. |
Call. My daughter had hers out Friday and she's still complaining about pain. It's mostly her bottom right side. They said she shouldn't be in this much pain still. She's going back today for a follow up, I'll let you know what they said. |
Sounds like an infecton has set in. You need to be seen again ASAP! Warm hugs to you! |
You have my utmost sympathy. I remember that and remember how painful it was. Hang in there! |
I'd call them back. May be infected. |
Probably wouldn't hurt for them to check, although mine was similar to yours, and I remember not even being able to get a toothbrush in my mouth. I had 2 partially impacted and 2 fully impacted and couldn't open my teeth more than 1/4". You also need better pain meds; shoot, they gave me codeine and percoset! |
Thanks ladies for your input. I just gave them a call and they can see me in an hour. I hate going to the doctor when there is nothing wrong. Hopefully he'll at least give me a refill on the lortab. I can't brush any of my teeth except for the front ones because my tooth brush won't fit any farther back. It's so hard to eat anything too...it took me 45 mintues to eat a little cup of easy mac last night.:D |
I did a lot of milkshakes. If you have a blender, you can make shakes and smoothies from fruit, and maybe you can add a little protein powder to replace what you can't eat. |
Ouch! A long time ago I had all four of mine out, but because the roots were growing around the teeth in front of them I had to have it done in the hospital. I feel for you. I hope you get something to help. Aleve Gel Tabs are pretty good - 12 hours. I don't take them, but my mom does. Hope you start feeling better soon.:) |
They put me to sleep to take them out, there is NO WAY I could of been awake through it! They were able to just pull the top two out but the bottom two were partially impacted and needed cut out. |
That's the reason you're in such pain - all of that digging around! |
Well, I just got home from the dentist. I have 2 dry sockets, both of my lower teeth. :( They packed them and boy did that hurt! The left side is starting to feel a little better but the right side is still aching. The medication tastes like cloves and it numbs whatever it touches so my tongue feels a little weird now. I'm supposed to go back Monday morning to have them repacked. |
You poor thing! I remember having mine out very clearly (all 4 of mine were impacted...fun stuff). I'm glad you went back and got checked out and I hope you recover quickly! |

Awww, bless your heart:( I KNOW how badly those dry sockets hurt. The packing will actually help. I hope the doc gave you more pain meds. |
awww Im sorry hun.. big hugs for you to feel better. I have to go through that, Ive been putting it off I have 6:eek: at least you got it over with |
I was hoping I'd see an update. Yikes! I hope they gave you more good pain meds to help you sleep tonight. You poor thing; hope you're feeling better soon! |
Oh my I hope you get well soon:(, sorry for your pain:( |
I'm surprised he didn't send you to an oral surgeon and put you to sleep during the procedure. I remember waking up and the doc said, hey you just had a 9lb. baby boy. I was so groggie, I was thinking, I don't remember being pregnant??? Hope you feel better soon. I have heard dry sockets are horrible. Just keep popping the pain pills and maybe that will help. |
It may be dry socket. You should not be feeling this pain now. Usually dry socket is when the blood plug comes out of the extraction hole. If it comes out too soon then air will get in down to the bone and you will feel a dull or throbbing pain. Call your dentist tomorrow morning .My daughter just had hers taken out and she had little swelling on the second day.By the third day her pain was gone. She was just uncomfortable with the stitches. They gave her vicodin Genie |
The packing does seem to be helping. My right cheek is really starting to swell though and it's making talking extremely difficult. I did go to an oral surgeon to have them taken out and he used nitrous oxide and an iv to put me to sleep. As far as pain meds go, he said to just keep taking the ibuprofin (600 mg every 6 hours) but I think I'm going to start taking 2 500mg tabs that I have here at home every 4-6 hours and see if that helps a little more. I am suppossed to go back Monday morning to have them repacked. Everything I've read online says that the packs are normally replaced every 24-48 hours...but mine at supposed to last 4 days? They gave me a number to call after hours if the pain gets bad over the weekend. The packs taste horrible and I'm paranoid that they are going to come out.:( |
hang in there. Turns oiut my daughter had dry socket too. They rinsed her mouth and all this food came out. She obviously didn't stick to the soft diet. They packed her, she has to go back tomorrow (24 hours) and they'll switch it out, then she keeps it in all weekend and then gets it out. He said she would feel better in a few hours and didn't give her any more pills. |

Ouch I'm so sorry! I really hope you feel better soon! :( Sending big hugs and positive vibes and prayers! |
Dry socket is miserable - I got it on the bottom too - good thing is, the packing takes care of the pain pretty quickly. Definitely stick to the soft diet. I looked like a chipmunk for a few days - I know you're miserable now, but it will be funny later. Take pictures. :D *Hugs* |

Hi When I had my teeth pulled, I found the fastest way there is to heal is to rinse with a mild solution of salt and warm water. If you can, give it a try. |
Well, I\'ve almost survived the weekend without needing to be repacked. As long as I take ibuprofin around the clock, the pain really is minimal now. Yesterday, I was a little more adventerous with my meals as opposed to the jello and mashed potatoes I have been eating all week. I think I may have over did it a little bit though because by the end of last night, my jaw was pretty sore. I\'m going to ask when I go in tomorrow, but I think they put stitches in my cheeks on both sides. I do know that my wisdom teeth were causing me to "chew" on my cheeks, so maybe they needed stitches? I wish I could open my mouth farther to be able to brush my teeth more thoroughly because man does my breath taste/smell terrible! |
You might want to buy a baby toothbrush. They\'re really soft and have tiny heads. Another possibility is to wrap a piece of gauze around your little finger, soak it in some mouthwash, and try to wipe off your teeth with that. Hang in there! |
