Mystic Tan I am so nervous- I'm leaving in just a few minutes for my first Mystic Tan. I know some people have had bad experiences with it but I did a ton of research on the tanning forums and I made sure the place I'm going uses the correct solution and I've exfoliated as much as humanly possible and read every tip imaginable so I'm ready to give it a go. Being a FL girl I've always had a real tan but now that I'm 35 I'm trying to be a good girl and not end up like an alligator but I hate being pale. I know there are tons of great self tanners but I figured this would be a good once a week thing and I'll keep touched up with self tanner at home. Still... I am soooo nervous! I'm going to do the one with the bronzer so I wont know how it's really going to look until tonight or tomorrow when I shower the bronzer off. Okay, I'm procrastinating. I'll let y'all know how it goes. Wish me luck!:) Did I mention I'm scared?:p |
My co-worker did it. When it finally sprayed it shocked her and was cold. She jumped and fidgeted and came out blotchy. |
Hey! Don't be scared! You will look great. I did the spray tan thing.....can't remember if it was Mystic Tan but I had to stand in a booth and a machine sprayed me. I only did it once but there is nothing to it - just prep the palms of your hands and bottoms of your feet.:) Let us know how it turns out. |
Dont be nervous I have did it before and it turned out great not splotchy at all. It beats laying in a tanning bed 20 minutes 2 to 3 days a week. When my tanning contract runs out I might do it regularly |
I have always been curious about this, too. I am anxious to see what you think about it. I heard of someone here that does the airbrushing and also wondered about this. Tammy |
I have airbrush tans all the time (san Tropez) - i need it here in England coz the weather is always so terrible!:p haven't heard of mystic tan before but i'm sure it will look great:)if u exfoliate really well fake tans look really natural.I hope you are pleased with the results xxx:) |
Okay I survived!:D I am terribly claustrophobic and had a mild panic attack right before I got in the booth and almost backed out, but... it was nothing! I felt silly afterward. It was very easy. I'm hoping I wasn't squeezing my eyes tight emphasizing the lines around my eyes- that's the only thing I don't really remember. So now I wait, fingers crossed that I'm not streaky. I used the solution with the bronzer so I have a little color now and not streaks yet.:xfingers: |
LOL, I got myself so worked up before hand I am sitting here feeling like I just took a run. I'm exhausted!:p |
Will you show us a pic when your done? I use self tanners but they seem to always end up blotchy when they are fading??? Plus I can NEVER get my feet to look normal! LOL Good luck!!! Are you back yet? |

I just realized something a little bit ago- I don't smell! You know how sunless tanners have that gross smell? Even if they smell good there is still that background DHA smell? No smell at all! If I put my nose right to my skin it smells slightly of lotion or something. |

I might be doing this in October... Im in a wedding and the dress is strapless but I have crazy dark tan lines on my shoulders and chest this year. Im glad to hear it was easy, Id love to know how it comes out. Do you think it would be dark enough to hide tan lines from a real tan? Id hate to look like an idiot in the wedding pictures. |
I have done several Mystic Tans- LOVE them for the first few days, and then when it starts wearing off it gets wierd looking. Mine also would rub off on my bra straps, didn't like it. Let me know what you think!!! Oh and Celestu make sure you go a few times a month or so before you do it for a wedding. I don't think it will cover your tan lines, but I could be wrong. Sure beats all the UV stuff though!! |
I'm also a little concerned for my sheets and towels- both of which I prefer to be white. I have a tan sheet I'm going to use for the first few days. I hadn't thought about my bras. Hmmm, well we'll se how it goes. I might just have to readjust my way of thinking because I have not been able to get used to being pale. Maybe my future is tan sheets, towels, bras- tan everything!:p BTW the DHA smell is starting to come through but it's not too bad. |
So which is better...Mystic Tan or airbrushing? I have always been afraid that they would look orangey. |

I've never done airbrush tanning but I'm going to try it if this doesn't work out. I'm sure how good it looks on you depends on how good the solution they use is and if it's a color that works for you or not. It's $40-$45 around here though so it wouldn't be a weekly thing for me. I'm really hoping the Mystic works out. I read to make sure they use the Mystic solution because some places use (cheaper) California Tan which isn't as good. I've use Cal Tan lotions and love them but I guess the booth solution is streaky and orange. |
So how's it lookin', girl? Tam |

This is an important step otherwise you may end up with to much color on your hands and feet. When I had mine, they gave me a shower cap to wear. Oh, and do be prepared for the blast. Even though I knew it was coming, it made me jump out of my skin. Last but not least, mine turned out great!!! No blotches but if I remember it takes about 24 hours to really kick in. Good luck, I'm sure your's will turn out wonderfully. |
It looks really natural so far. I'm really happy with it. The color is nice - no orange at all. My hands aren't orange at all either which was one of my biggest concerns and no streaking even around my feet and ankles. They said it would take as long as 24 hours to fully develope but I think I'm going to really like it. Now I'm going to have to get past the transfer on sheets and towels.:thumbdown I know I won't like that but I like the prospect of having leather skin even less so hopefully I can deal with it. The smell is really mild so I think I'll be able to hold off on showering till morning. She said to wait at least 6-8 hours but longer if I could. I just had my hair lightened quite a bit- almost blond so I look soooo much better with some color. |

LOL, posting at the same time but I'm much slower.:p Yeah I used that barrier guard like my life depended on it and also wore the oh so cute shower cap. I can't wait to see how it looks tomorrow. We're going to the Keys this weekend so depending on the amount of color that shows up I might do it again on Thursday. |

You will LOVE it the next couple days, I am just really curious as to how it works for you after that. Please keep me updated!!! Women are silly, aren't we?!?!?! |
My daughter works at a tan place. She's always whining about the darn mystic tan. When she cleans it she bumps into it and will come home with splotches on her arms and feet. :p |
I did the mystic tan and I am a pale blond, I liked it, the color that is.... but I have such sensitive skin that I became itchy...arrrrgggg, can't tan in the sun and can't tan in a room with lotion. I am so white that if someone broke into my house at night I'd have to turn the lights on and stand against the wall...:eek:j/k. I am pretty darn pale though. I have red headed kids too so we go through the 50spf weekly...lol. |
