Anyone ever successfully find their name and get their money? This is NOT a scam (even though my dad is leary). It is endorsed by 40 of the 50 states, New Jersey being one of them.

Go ahead and see if you have any money waiting for you! I don't. :( But my dad does! :D

I don't have any money but my dad was listed on there 3 different times...that is very interesting. 2 of them were under $100 and one was undisclosed...cool, thanks for the site.

I did it and got my money. They had $1200.00 that belonged to me for years. One night my husband was messing around with it and plugged my name and it came up that I had money but they didn't disclose the amount.

Its a process and you have to verify who you are. Like provide proof that you live/d in the address if different now. Thank goodness I like to save bills and I had one plus I had to get paperwork notorized. Its a little back & forth but was worth it for me. I was doing all that back & forth not knowing what I was getting...didn't know until I received my check.

Also I don't think I went through missing money...I went through the State of NJ website to the unclaimed property section within the website...free of charge. I suggest maybe going to your state website first.

If it's any site that charges you for the information...while not necessarily a scam...but you shouldn't have to pay anything. Check with your state government...all unclaimed monies are held by the state when the funds were orginally located.

Ours periodically publishes a list in the newspaper of names with unclaimed funds.

I've collected money before. I thought it would be an issue because it was in both my and my ex husbands name but they sent it to me.

Oh I've searched my family...my mother's maiden name, my husband's family...everyone and apparently everyone knew where all their money was. :rolleyes:

I found $10K from my Dad's estate. It was actually stock that we had in our possession, but for some reason it had paid out and was in an account in FL that we had to claim.

Right now we are waiting on another check which was an overpayment to a Dr's office from my Mom. It is only a little over $100 but still it is something!

Good for you!

The state of Florida sent my Dad's money to my brother even though we both had to fill out the paperwork and prove we should receive it. I'm just lucky that we have a good relationship and he immediately sent me my half. I know a lot of families that it wouldn't have turned out that way. It kinda made me mad that they sent it to him, but since I got my share it was a moot point so I didn't pursue it.

I went through Jersey, and they tell you to go through the missingmoney site b/c it is approved by the states and it's free. :D

That's so cool that you got all that money! My dad's amount isn't disclosed either. I think it's a Jersey thing, b/c other states say where the money comes from.

My dad too! I was so frustrated this morning!!! I was like, "Dad, the site is state.nj.us....what else do you want!!" :eek: He said to have someone else we know do it first! LOL I found my aunt and friend.

Could be anything. Overpayment of a utility bill, insurance policy refund, bank money not given to you on a closed account. They can't just absorb it. They have to keep it for you. If they can't find you they have to keep it available for you anyway. Cool, huh?

I'm so excited! My dad did some research online and looked in the phone book for the treasury number. Since he found good things and the number matched the number online, he sent in his form to claim the money!!!!!!! I'm so excited seeing that he thought it was a scam! I hope it's a decent amount! :D

That is cool. I found my name, with correct middle initial and correct state, but it was one of those that didn't offer any details. Said something like 'undisclosed.' Since I don't typically let a nickle slip through my hands, I don't think I'm going to go to the trouble of following up. Must be someone else.

My dad's said undisclosed too. But, if it's your name AND address (or former address) I'd follow up! And if you don't want the money, I'll take it. :p

It didn't list an address either. Just name and state.:(

I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. It says you can claim it if you can answer "Yes" to all of these questions:

Is this your name?
Do you live or have you lived at the address listed?
Do you or have you lived in the state holding the property?
Have you conducted business with the company listed in the "Reported By" column?

The only think I can answer is my name and state.

Well, why don't you call the Alaska treasury to ask what you should do?
