Our agency has asked us all to give one day a month furlough in hopes other's can be spared being laid off. So after working here for 26 years giving up one day a month without pay is better than no job at all and other's still have their job. This will be reviewed in June to see if things get better or jobs are to be cut. I hope those of you who are without jobs at this time find something to tie you over until "the job" comes along. Yes, these are very scary times. This country needs to get back to basic's. |
Thanks everyone for your kinds words, thoughts and prayers. And to all of you who are struggling, I KNOW how you feel and I am praying for all of you as well! I am so grateful to have my KiKi by my side to keep me company! I'd be totally lost and depressed without her by my side! Bless you all! |
I am sorry to hear that; it is hard way to begin the New Year. My husband got laid off this past Friday. The company he works for will be laying off 8,000+ people over the year. |
Update: After looking for a job since September, DH got a job this afternoon. :) I'm praying for all of you out there still looking! |

Have you looked on craigslist? Put your resume on careerbuilder.com, hotjobs.com, monster.com, jobster.com. Build a nice profile, then just go down the line and apply to anything! That's what we did for Adam. I started applying to anything that came up. I figured that if they didn't think he was qualified, they wouldn't call. We started getting random phone calls for jobs and he kept calling me at work saying, "What's this?" "What is this?" and my classic answer was "I don't know, just call them back." lol I'm praying for everyone still! |
I posted on all those sites when I was looking and went to alot of Job fairs. It took 18 months and that was when the economy wasnt that bad. I had an associates degree, 20 years professional experience from entry level to management and was working towards my bachelors and couldnt get a call back. I ended up getting lots of advertising and spam mailfrom monster and career builder. Try temp agencies, go to head hunters and check college websites for job fairs. They are open to the public. Try looking also on websites for energy based organizations for example electric companies, heating oil companies, these places are always in need of personnel. Just wanted to give you a few new ideas, I took an unlikely position 2 years ago this March as entry level administrator and 2 years later I am up for a promotion and doing well. I am thankful and grateful to have a good job but it wasnt my first choice. Hang in there and good luck. |
A tip I heard on the news Last night on the news they were talking about how to get jobs, and they said one thing to do right now, as bad as it sounds, is to dumb-up your resume a bit. If you have specialty degrees that can be left off, leave them off. If you have management experience change the title to superviser, so it doesn't sound like you are over qualified for the position. Basically make it sound like you are worth less than you really are because companies right now are going to go for someone they don't have to pay as much. |
I AM GOING BACK TO WORK!!!!! I finally got another job...after being laid off 7 months ago and applying for over 100 jobs...I AM SO HAPPY to be joining the working world again!! |
Great news!!!!!! |
I am so sorry to hear all the stories of layoffs. I too got the news that I was impacted in the Reduction in Force (RIF) but I managed to land a job with another department. We have a very good severance package and I would have gotten 7 mos pay if I had not found another position. A lot of the employees took the severance package and got another job to get double pay. I am not that adventurous. Now I just go day to day wondering if this new position will make it through this economy. My prayers are with everyone, this economy has to turn around soon. |
