I've won a variety of stuff...a trip to the Bahamas, professional portraits, theme park tickets, tons of concert tickets...one of which was a party bus that traveled to see Dave Matthews.

Had a friend "win" a Jeep Wrangler once....that "free" car cost him $4800 in various taxes including adding the MSLP to his federal tax return. He said free wasn't exactly free.

hhhmmm Ive won some things, nothing major that I can think of but little things here & there

Most recently I think was an iPod Nano at a raffle drawing at work! I was in New Mexico on vacation when my boss called to tell me. How sweet!!!! That same vacation I won $400 at the casino one night! Ive won $100 home depot gift card long ago. Barnes & Noble gift card along with the book 'The Secret'. Various little things, nothing major! But all appreciated and nice!!

I do REALLY well at getting laid off and getting severance packages and getting new jobs like the next day! haha This has happened to me a FEW TIMES! I got laid off and got about $4,000 in severance (after taxes) and got to take most of the summer off one year. Then another time I got laid off and got about $5,000 and got a new job the following week. It felt like I won something!!!! LOL

No big wins for me YET but lots of little wins on scratchies ($100 on Monopoly a few months ago) and usually get a few numbers on the lottery draws so I win $10 or a free ticket. Just waiting for my BIG WIN! :D Anyone here read the Secret? Expect it to happen, think positive, and your energy will make it happen. Well, it's worth a try isn't it?

Betty'sMom 08-04-2008 08:42 AM

$2,000 in a slot machine...then I lost it! :D But, I had fun!

ARCHIE 08-04-2008 11:12 AM

Congratulations to you and your hubby.
Now that's a win. He must have been in total shock when his
key turned the lock.

Me, I'm not lucky. Loose at the casino's, been playing Lotto for 23yrs
twice a week with 6 other's at work, we win nothing each week.
Been in YT Raffle for three years, win nothing there either:p
I did, however, win a necklace and cookbook at a penny social
6months ago. I almost fell off the chair. I guess there's a first
time for everything.
Enjoy and be safe.

For getting second place in a coloring contest, I won two tickets to see the Wizard of Oz, and $10.00, and in those days popcorn was only 15¢. :D However, mom helped me, and I always felt guilty about winning. Haven't won anything since, except last years YorkieTalk raffle and I won a beautiful painting of a Yorkie by Yorkie Painter. I find it ironic that my only two winnings involved art.

Oh my goodness, I just remembered I did win $250.00 once in Vegas, and bought a painting with my winnings.

Oh my! Mom helped you?????

I can't recall one thing I won. Isn't that pathetic? Does winning an argument count? I always win those w/ DH!

My older brother won third prize without mom's help and of course he never let me forgot how I cheated. I colored the picture and gave it to mom, she than outlined the figures, and perhaps shaded it a little. Outlining pictures does help and I learned this valuable technique after that, but I think the fault lies on my mothers shoulders and not mine. Hopefully, this horrible curse of never winning has been lifted. :D

That is AWESOME!!! Congratulations.

Angie

I've won stuff in raffles and small stuff from radio stations (like movie tickets, concerts that I don't want to go to, free food, wall decor, etc.). I can NEVER get through when they're giving away vacations though.

Oh and I've been to the casino 4 times and have never walked out ahead. :thumbdown

The best thing I won was 2 tickets to a concert w/ Nelly, Eve, Destiny's Child, Jessica Simpson, Dream (& someone else) back in 2000. I got backstage passes and got to meet Destiny's Child (they're short!). I could've met Jessica Simpson too if the radio station manager had told me the correct time.

Grayson's mom 08-04-2008 01:08 PM

Congrats to your husband!

I hardly ever win anything but about a month ago I won 100.00 on a lotto scratcher I think that is biggest thing I have won thus far!

Tiggerwit 08-04-2008 01:12 PM

Twice I went to Vegas and won $1,000 the night before I was to go home. I once won a pair of half carat total weight diamond earrings at Bingo appraised at the time around $650.

And V... don't laugh now but I worked in a Bingo Hall for 16 years. I've seen people spend thousands trying to win $500. It's scary for some because they can't control the addiction.

I'd love to win the Harley. Did you guys have to pay the tax on it when you licensed it or anything? That's what I'm always afraid of, winning a dang car and not being able to keep it because I can't pony up the tax. LOL

Reese1 08-04-2008 01:36 PM

I actually won three trips to Las Vegas in a raffle at a bingo I used to play at, I think if they drew my name a fourth time, I would have needed an armed escort to my car! Then on two of the trips I won $1000 each time playing bingo in Vegas and one time $500!
I matched 4 out of 5 on our Lottery pick 5, unfortunately the prize was $250 and it would have been $100,000 for 5 numbers! My 5th number was 33 and the lottery number drawn was 31, I've never gotten over that! :(
I've won something in two raffles here on YT!

I've known two lottery winners, one won 3 million and one 20 million, I'm still waiting for that big payoff! :)

wileycoyote 08-04-2008 02:04 PM

Yes, we have to pay taxes, etc. Luckily we have some savings. I saw in someone's post about possibly having to claim on my taxes which I never thought of.

I will let you all know what kind of taxes and such I have to pay. As I am sure, everyone is wondering just how free it will end up being. I am wondering how free it will be also......

But still the bike/with custom paint is valued close to $12.000. So who knows.....

wileycoyote 08-04-2008 02:05 PM

I would have been pretty ticked over that 5th number also!

pea496 08-04-2008 02:23 PM

Conner won a shirt from FuFu Fashions. He loved it so much we had to get more. I, on the other hand, have never won anything.

Tiggerwit 08-04-2008 03:14 PM

Here in WA I think anything over $1199 you get a 1099 form to use as added income for your tax return. :(

Tammyh 08-04-2008 03:19 PM

I too won something through a radio station. A trip to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas to see a private concert with Phil Vassar (when I say private I mean there were only 10 winners and each could bring a guest). It was so much fun!!! The concert was great, he is so much fun. He even invited anyone interested to stay after the "meet & greet" to go have some drinks. The "meet and greet" was taking too long so hubby and I headed back to our hotel room (We had an early flight the next morning and hadn't even packed yet). Well, the ones who partied looked like they needed someone to put them out of their misery so we were OK with that decision. I guess it shows our age:p The resort is BEAUTIFUL! It was a great experience! I'll tell you this much we are PHIL VASSAR FANS FOR LIFE!

Congrats on your Harley! We just bought one a couple months ago and love it!

Cool!

I think that is how it usually works.....you win when you least expect it!

I will try and post pics later. If anyone wants to read about it or see the photos on the radio station website. This is the site:

WDGG - Big Night at Pullman Square

I am so happy I could burst! It feels so good when something nice happens to you, then you want to spread the feeling on to others by doing nice things for them.

Congrats on the bike-that is awesome!! I used to live near Ashland and used to listen to that station all the time-and my stepdaughter lives near Huntington, small world!! anyways...LOL I have won at the slots $500 a couple of times...and that is about the biggest I have won. The most useful thing I have one was a $350 gas card back in April...that SO came in handy! Now we can't wait to see pics of you on that hot bike!! congrats again!

cindarella's castle :)

I won a night in Cinderella's castle back on July 5-6, 2007. We were at Walt Disney World and my brother got off a ride and there were several members of the disney dream team waiting for us. They had us watch a DVD there, asked us if we ever had heard of the "Year of a Million Dreams" sweepstakes, and then told us our prize. After a bunch of signed paperwork and press releases and parents going through background checks, we were official winners :) We won a night in the castle, dinner at the Royal Table (restaurant in the castle), VIP seating for the Magic Kingdom parade, a day in Magic Kingdom, priority on rides (we're talking a walk-on for Space Mountain!), and breakfast with the characters at The Crystal Palace the next day (restaurant in Magic Kingdom). I remember looking out the window late that night, seeing flashes of the cameras (through what i could see with the stained glass windows...unfortunately there aren't regular windows anywhere in the rooms...just stained glass) and thinking "wow! They're taking photos of where I'm sleeping tonight!"
We didn't have to enter anything...it's all random people chosen...for this prize, they choose one family out of all the parks...AM-A-ZING :D

Needless to say, I have a TON of photos (an entire album full just of the day with the prizes!)

You'll be receiving a 1099 for the suggested retail price of the bike...that amount will have to be added to your federal and state tax returns. Here in Virginia...you would also have to pay sales tax based on the same amount along with a personal property tax which they access on every vehicle.

SweetPea53 08-04-2008 07:45 PM

I've won a contest on our local radio contest last Valentine's Day, A mountain bike/2 bike carrier and then a food processor from a diabetes website that I am a member of and two YT raffles.....that is the most I have ever won in my life....
