| ? for teachers and others I am a teacher (obviously haha) and my friend who is an occupational therapist has a 7 year old. This is my question. I make 50% less than she does a year, and she constantly wants me to pick up her son from soccer camp, etc through out the summer. During the school year she does not have to pay anyone to watch him b/c she can arrange her schedule so she drops him off in the am and is home in time to pick him up in the afternoom. I have to be very careful over the summer as I budget throughout the year to have money when I am off. I feel like a jerk saying no, but I feel like I am being taken advantage of. I am 25, don't have children, and feel like I didn't go into this profession so I can babysit for free in the summers so my friends can save money while I waste mine running 15 minutes each way to pick up their kids and back. Am I being a total b- or are my feeling justified? |

| Good answer. You do not need to spend your summer babysitting for free for anyone. This is your summer. Enjoy.

| Thank you - I needed to hear that my feelings were justified, and I wasn't just being petty. |

| I think you are quite justified. One of the perks of your profession is to be able to have off the summer. Your friend (although I am sure it's unintentional) should not make you feel guilty that you have this luxury. She needs to understand that this is your time off for you to decide what to do with, not for her to dictate how you should use it. And besides, just because you have days off does not mean you are not busy with your own personal stuff to do, no matter what that entails. It's not up to her to decide whether or not you are spending your time wisely or constructively or industriously.
