You go, girl. Congratulations on your perserverance, and not letting anyone bring you down or kill your dreams! With your focus and positive attitude I'm sure you will absolutely excel in whatever you decide to study. |
Why do parents do these things to their children? I applaud you for going back to school and if my children want to further their education I'm 101% behind them. When I gratuated from high school I want to go to college and become a nurse. My father said "no-get married, girls don't need an education-said he was saving for my brothers". It took me a few years but I eventually got myself into a position to go to school. Sorry this happened to you. |
I live in PA as well. Have you applied for PHEAA (Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency)? It is a grant based on financial need. It is not a loan so you won't have to pay it back. The college would have the information. Also, check out the work study programs. They can usually help you get a part-time job to earn money for books, supplies, etc. Plus where possible take the CLEAP (College credits for life experience test). For example if you are a tour guide and do alot of public speaking you may be able to credit for that. See what is available and keep all options open. That was strange for your mom to laugh. I grew up single parent home. I didn't think I'd be able to go to college either. I now have an Associates degree and work for the military as a contractor. |
You go girl!!! I don't think that you can be considered a dependent unless they are still claiming you on their taxes or carrying insurance on you which most of the time you have to be in school for them to carry insurance on you in the first place....message me if you have any questions I recently started nursing school so I have been through the whole rigamorore of what to do |
you have all the right to be mad...what kind of mother laughs at her child...for wanting to go to college..now something is seriously wrong with her! |
