I received this in my email today and decided to share. It does make you think.

ONLY IN CALIFORNIA

[FONT='Arial', 'sans-serif']SCHOOL ANSWERING MACHINE

This is hilarious - no wonder some people were offended! This is the
message that the Pacific Palisades High School California staff voted
unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine.

This is the actual answering machine message for the school. This
came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and
parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework.

The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's
failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were
absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school
work to pass their classes.

The outgoing message:

Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school.
In order to assist you in connecting to the right staff member, please listen
to all the options before making a selection:

To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1

To make excuses for why your child did not do his work - Press 2

To complain about what we do - Press 3

To swear at staff members - Press 4

To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in
your newsletter and several flyers mailed to you - Press 5

If you want us to raise your child - Press 6

If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone - Press 7

To request another teacher, for the third time this year - Press 8

To complain about bus transportation - Press 9

To complain about school lunches - Press 0

If you realize this is the real world and your child must be accountable
and responsible for his/her own behavior, class work, homework and that
it's not the teachers' fault for your child's lack of effort: Hang up and have
a nice day!

as a teacher... i LOVE IT! I've only "practice" taught (i just graduated from Teacher's College) But from my short amount of time in the classroom i am stunned by how little ownership paretn's take for their students' learning... i have 60+ students (highschool) to worry about and while I want them all to do well and do what i can.. i could use some help from mom and dad

I guess it is the changing times. I help tutor my grandkids in math, when they need it. With both parents having to work to make a living these days, there isn't much time left to sit down at night and help kids with homework. And people tend to rely on the School System to teach our kids.

it's cute.....& definitely gets the point across!! If all parents were as concerned, loving, diligent, spent as much time as we all do with our furbabies.....we'd see a definite change!

Having been a high school teacher for the past 20 years (ya know, no guts no glory! ha ha) I want one of those voice mail recordings!!!

I ways find it hilarious, when a parent call about a childs failing grades and says "what can I do" expecially when the child has 20-30 unexcused absences! I tell them YOU can't do anything, except GET THEM TO SCHOOL!

I'll stop now because this is a subject that I could just bore you all silly talking about!

well sometimes you do get an ass for a teacher i had a sex ed teacher who would hit on the girls and he got fired when too many moms and dads called the school saying they did not like the fact that the teacher was coming on to there girl children
