Stupid, STUPID things kids do My son swallowed a water balloon. WHY did he swallow an uninflated water balloon you ask? Well naturally its because he wanted to pass gas and see if he could blow it up with his butt! SO my question is, will it pass on its own or do I need to take him to the ER? PLEASE tell me it will pass on its own. I don't think I can take the humiliation of explaining this one at the ER. I don't know how he comes up with some of this stuff. *sigh* |
Oh my gosh! How old is he? LOL (I'm very sorry to laugh but I have two boys myself and I know where you are coming from here LOL) I would call an advice nurse. Do you have that with your insurance? (you don't have to tell her why he swallowed it or it was an accident...:D) |
Ok, called my GaGa. She's an RN. She said it should pass on its own but if he experiences any discomfort in the next 24 hours to take him to ER just to be safe. DS is 11. He'll be 12 in November. |

:eyetearss:eyetearss:eyetearss Gotta love kids' thought processes. |
Oh my....laughing. If it's any consolation...I swallowed a nickel when I was a kid. I had to go to the bathroom in a bucket...so my mother could "search" for it...after 3 days of squishing poop...my mom decided it wasn't going to kill me. |
PS We want to know if his theory works too. :D |

and Deb - swallowed a nickle huh ? what were you doing - being your own personal piggy bank ? Graleyne....I do hope he's ok - and thank you SO much for the big laugh...that was one of the funniest things I've read in weeks |
LOL! I have to laugh :) But I feel your pain, I have 3 boys ages 10, 5 & 4 so I definately have heard the stupid excuses for doing stupid things ;) I think he will be fine also. Being a water balloon it's probably the small ones right? It shouldn't obstruct anything or get caught up. Don't think the stomache acids will digest it, so just have him be on the lookout, so to say for it ;) :) I have a framed print on my living room wall my Mom got me after my 3rd son was born...... There is a special place in Heaven for Mom's of little boys.....:) I'm hoping with what all they put us through, lol! :) |
This reminds me of when my sister and I jammed raisins up our noses. |
OMG I'm laughing so bad I think I wet my pants. LOL I'm going to feel bad if you have to take him to the ER but Oh man, that's hilarious reasoning. Girl, you so need a vacation. Pack it up and come this way, I'll spoil ya for a few days and DH and deal with DUG!!! |

Off topic: If it will make you feel better, my daughter just saw your avatar. She was like awwww she has a cute one!! I'm like mine are cute too!!!!! |
Having been a preschool/kindergarten teacher for 11+ years, I can spend a WHOLE day telling you about things children have swallowed (and they usually pass through the body naturally ;)) or stuck up their noses. My favorite is when a little boy stuck a piece of chalk up his nose. It was REALLY stuck, so we ended up calling the fire department and they came and pulled it out. When I asked him why in the world he stuck chalk up his nose he responded, "I was doing a science experiment!" |

I called DH and told him to please bring home a CASE of Calgon. I do not believe one bottle will take me far enough way. Yes, it was one of the small ones - the green ones that look like hand grenades. That should make it highly visible. NOT. LOL I absolutely will NOT dig through poop for a camoflauged water balloon. Ain't happening. Nope. |
I'm sorry for laughing, but I almost started crying when I read your post. I hope it doesn't cause him any discomfort. TOO FUNNY!! |

I don't blame you :D |
And they wonder why Mom's have grey hair. I enjoyed this one. I know it is hard for you... all the waiting ... for the .... results. But it sure brightened up everyone's day. Hope everything comes out alright. Hee Hee. |

Hey...make him do what I had to do with Sassy when she ate tin foil. Give him a baggie for it and have him search through it for the balloon. I'll bet after that he would never eat anything he isn't supposed to again. :D |

I had friends who smuggled me into the movies. |
What a hilarious thread. I really want to know if your son's theory works. Hummmmmm..... :D :D :D My two boys are 16 months apart. The oldest stuck a "jiggly eye in my younger son's ear. Of course it was "flat side out" so there was nothing to "grab on to". We made an emergency trip to the ENT at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. Fortunately the doctor was able to snag the jiggly eye and save us from an emergency surgery. Kids! You gotta love 'em! |

I so feel your pain I have three little boys myself and they have done similar stuff. I also would make him look through his own stool for it, he will not ever eat anything that he is not supposed to after that. |
This is hilarious!! I'm sure your boy will be fine but they sure do know how to give you grey hairs! Kids aren't the only ones who do stupid stuff! One time, my first yorkie, Molly had 3 pups that were about 5 or 6 weeks old and I went outside to water the lawn for like 5 minutes. I came in the house and Molly had jumped up on the chair in the kitchen, gone into my purse, took out a PlentyPack of Spearmint gum and brought it back to her pen with the babies and they all proceded to eat the whole pack of gum, wrappings and all!!! I called the vet but he said just to make sure the pups didn't get lethargic. The next day they all had green gum poo!! But they were all fine! Hope everything turns out ok!! |
LMAOOOO! OMG im sorry but that is soo funny! Boys are something else! |
You could always make him drink mineral oil to ensure everything comes out smoothly. :D |
OMG!!! I am Laughing but feeling your pain!! I have 2 boys and this is right up their alley!! One time Trieden my oldest now 8 stuck a rock in his ear well i got mad and when i looked i didn't see anything so i thought it fell out.... Well about a month later he kept saying MOM something is rattling in my head i just laughed it off as an excuse to get out of bed. Well he kept saying it and i was reminded of the rock insident so I took a flashlight and looked in his ear and sure enough i seen something i got the tweezers and it was hard and i couldn't get it out so I rushed him to the doctor where they did a canal flush. the doctor was convinced it was just wax but it wasn't there was actually a rock in his ear:eek::eek::eek: we kept it as a reminder not to stick stuff in our ears hahaha!! |
So far no complications from the water balloon. I don't think it has passed yet, but he isn't clutching his stomach and writhing in pain. I'm confident he's going to live. Some of you will be disappointed to know that while he HAS tooted, he has not inflated the balloon with his butt as of yet. So I think this experiment is a flop. LOL |
hope your son is okay. and I apologize but I am lmao! :lol tears:lol tears:lol tearsI |
