**Update On Nathan** 4 Attachment(s) We hust got home. My son posted this messege to all his friends so I will let him tell you all.. Hey, everyone. Just wanted to drop everyone a quick line to let everyone know about Nathan's surgery. He had a Defibrillator/Pacemaker put in the right side of his chest this morning. There were no complications, and it went beautifully. This device will shock him if another deadly heart rythm starts, and it will also give him a low current while he sleeps if an equally problematic low rythm occurs, which is, at the moment, a nightly occurence. They say that he has made progress since he got to Houston, and that he is on hold for a transplant at this time, but that they could put him back on if necessary with the click of a button. For right now, they're hopeful that medication will strengthen his heart, so we still have a little more time left here in Houston for them to treat him and monitor his day-to-day progress. How much time remains to be seen. I hope it's not too long. We'd like to get back as close to normal as we can get. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. Mike Powell The Art of Michael Powell I cannot describe to you the difference in our boy. His little eyes are dark and circled and lost weight..but dangit praise God he's sitting upright and smiling at you right here! Has been a long but happyintheend kind of day. I've got pictures..what kind of maw maw would I be if I didn't? Is this beautiful or what. When he came to, he thought he was still waiting for his surgery. Since coming out of recovery all he could think of was eating! Yep, that's nathan..he's back:D 1-Tony waiting for his brother in his bed. 2-Some of the many cards you have sent. 3-In recovery room. 4-This picture is worth a thousand words. I have more but kinda tired. Thank you all for traveling this road with us.:) |

Yes, we are thrilled he is feeling better. Doctors that did the surgery have been checking on him all day and said his device is working great. He'll have to wear protection under his clothes when he gets to go back to school, if Maggie doesn't start home schooling again. He was just able to start kindergarten the last couple of months in the school year and was enjoying playing with other kids so much. let's pray he is on an upward curve and continues to do better. His heart is still enlarged and weak, he gets tired easy but I have faith things wil get better and better ;) |
Oh I just posted to the other post, LOL. Now I see who Nathan is! And he looks GREAT! It's just unbelievable that such a healthy looking kid could have something so scary wrong with him! I'm glad that he got the ICD and is doing well; hope it continues that way; he's a cutie pie! Good luck Nathan!!! |

Wonderful News I've been away, but have thought about your boy often. I'm glad to hear that he's doing so well. The pictures are wonderful. My nephew is Autistic also. They are so special and have very caring little souls. I wish you and your family the best ,and hope that everything continues to get better and better with every passing day. |
Hi all~ Nathan has been having a hard time lately. Still in Houston. His meds have needed to be changed, his Lasix and some other. His meltdowns (autism) have increased which raises his heart rate. Austistic children do not adapt well to different surroundings and stimuli. So his implanted device has been activated a lot. The drs there have him seeing a psychiatrist now. Poor baby hasn't had normalsy in 2 months. He just keeps acking why he can't go home . Please keep him and the family in your prayers. |
