Patty - I am so sorry that I missed your thread this morning. Thank you to Judy in Waco for alerting me. And of course when I read your first post I dialed the phone..... Barbi, Greg, and the girls, plus the rest of your wonderful family will remain in my thoughts and prayers -- well you are always there anyway, but I will say EXTRA prayers for Barbi.... :ghug; |
Patty, I pray that Barbi has a full and speedy recovery. I do know that cat bites can be very dangerous, but you would think a tiny little kitten couldn't do this much damage...I am so sorry that she has to go through this. Sending you a hug my friend...I know you must be very worried. |
Patti.. I am just seeing this thread now.. I am sending many prayers.. I feel so bad for your Barbi.. omg.. I would never have thought a kitten could do so much damage and cause so many problems.. I will be watching for updates... anne |
Patty, so sorry to hear Barbi is having to go thru this. I have seen so many cases like this in ortho trauma. I am praying that if they have to do and I and D that the kitten's bite did not piece into the joint space! If so she may need long term Iv antibiotics at home. I work with some awesome hand specialist. Dont be afraid to ask if one is available! Take care Lisa |
I talked to Patty at length last night. When I talked with her, Patty was in fairly good spirits, her granddaughter, Gracie was snuggled up next to her and they were watching some TV. They are waiting on test results. Patty will be at the hospital today and won't have access to a computer (unless someone brings a laptop) so I will update you as soon as I hear from her. From talking with Patty, this is an extremely serious situation. So please please keep those prayers coming. |
Sorry to see this. One good deed gone wrong. Sending prayer's Babi's way. Hope everything works out ok. Very scary. |
Thank you for the update Cindy. I am continuing to pray for them all. |
Continued prayers... |
Sending prayers for Barbi and Family . I lit a candle . |
Let's all hope the outcome is good. Prayers will go out to her and the family. |
Patty, I just found this thread. I pray Barbi will make a speedy recovery. I know cat bites can be very serious. My vet has been hospitalized several times from cat bites. I just never would of though a little kitten bite could cause that much trouble. I will definitely use lots of caution before I ever try to handle a wild kitten. (((hugs))) |
Thanks so much for the prayers. We still don't know a whole lot yet. She had the xrays last night and they are supposed to do an MRI today. A surgeon came in to see her this morning and is coming back again this afternoon. Our ortho dr doesn't have privileges at this hospital but we all refuse to have any more surgery at the hospital he is allowed to use. If she has to have surgery we will have him recommend someone. The dr. told us last night about the long term IV....6-8 weeks. They are running so many tests on her. She is in good spirits though. We have learned a lot thru this. We really had no idea cat bites were so bad. |
Additional Update on Barbi Just after Patty posted the above update, called me with another update. Barbi is scheduled for an MRI tomorrow and the ortho surgeon has been called in. Guys and Gals, Patty is exhausted, frustrated and very worried. Please please keep my frister in your thoughts and prayers along with Barbi, Greg and the girls. The whole family is stunned about the seriousness of the situation. |
Cindy thanks so much for you updates.. Patti still sending prayers to you, barbi and family... I had not idea in this world that all this could happen from little kittens.. I think many of us are learning here... hugs anne |
Thank you so much for the update. Of course, we will continue to keep her and her daughter and her whole family in our thoughts and prayers. Everyone - Light a candle for them if you feel moved to do so. The link is posted earlier in this thread. |
May we all learn from this. Handle barn kittens with thick gloves only. Gee, I am hoping and praying Barbi is able to fight the infection and heal quickly. The things we'll go through for the love of animals. Patty, know that she is in good hands...try to get some rest...she's going to need your strength. |
It's hard to imagine it could turn out so serious...I am saying a prayer and will light a candle. I hope all turns out okay. |
May God bless Barbi and take care of her during this frightening time. She has a kind and caring heart and what she did speaks volumes about the sweet person she is. My prayers are going out to her for a speedy recovery. |
Another Update I just got off the phone with Patty. Barbi is in urgent need of more and more prayer. She is having some minor heart complications - I didn't quite understand what it was, but they are HOPING that it is an allergic reaction the the meds and not the infection fromt he kitten bite - she is on IV Benedryl just in case it's an allergic reaction. They are in a waiting pattern right now for the Ortho Surgeon and the MRI..... Patty - I believe that we were brought together for a purpose. You, my dear dear frister are mroe precious than words can say. I am asking Our Dear Lord to embrace your entire family and give you strength, and for healing for Barbi, and for the doctors treating her to be skilled enough to cure her quickly. Barbi, I love you, little Sis |
Gosh that is just too bad. Sending many prayers up for Barbi and for the surgeons to act on this quickly. I hope they are getting a cardiology consult to rule out endocarditis/vegetation. Also if she has had her PICC line placed yet for the long term iv ABX, i hope the tip is in the right spot and not irritating her heart:( I have seen that happen too. I am assuming they have her on tele monitoring now. Will be praying and waiting for updates:hands::hands::hands: |
Patty, my prayers are constant for Barbi and I cannot begin to say it more eloquently than your dear, dear Frister Cindy, but you are loved dearly and God is holding you close .... as are we all. Hugs to you my dear friend. |
oh no! I hope everything is ok!! |
Prayers are being said for a fast recovery...And please be safe on the road too !:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Thanks for the update. Absolutely, more prayers. I am going to meditate and pray with my candle. Hugs. |
Has anyone spoken to Patty today? How is Barbi doing? |

Hello my YT family. Barbi is on her way home but still not out of the woods. The only way they would let her out is if she got into her ortho dr. We are going to the hand surgeon tomorrow morning. Ihave not seen her today but do know that she is still in pain. I haven't talked with her since she was released so don't know what they sent her home with....IV or oral antibiotics. As soon as I pick up her pain meds, I am on the way to her house. I can't repeat my thanks enough times for all the prayers and well wishes. Will get on later with an update. I'm still on hold for the KC trip. |
Patty, I am happy to hear Barbi is out of the hospital. I will continue to pray that she has a speedy recovery. I hope all goes well with the ortho doctor. |
Frister, that is fantastic news -- the part about Barbi being released from the hospital. I hope that she is recovered enough to be able to go to KC for your family reunion and that you are able to attend the meet-up. Keeping your/my family in my thoughts and prayers ... :ghugs: |
