grr i hate my school dumb private schools! my school keeps changing uniform. before it was color coded polo shirt and knee length skirt fine. now they all need logos! grr i hate private skool! |
lol....... im glad i never had to deal with that.... my cousins private school costs sooooooo much (it costs more for a QUARTER in private school than it does for a SEMESTER of my college) |
lol sorry to hear that. what grade are you in? my friend finally convinced her parents to let her join public. she wasn't crazy about private school either. |
meganS~im going to 8th grade this year. my school decided the wanted to be like other private schools with "strict" uniform....in reality by May they will be slack about the uniform but until then, i will need to suffer. i HATE private school! i rather my parents save the 13-14 thousand dollars for this dumb school when i would rather go to pblic school  |
I went to Catholic school for 10 years and we had stupid uniforms. Only our last 2 years we could wear polos. Before that we had to wear LAME dres shirts with rounded cutesy collars. |
what is the allure of private school for your parents???? because honestly these days oen school is exactly like another whether it be private or public...... there are people who do DRUGS in every school...... by going to private doesnt mean there wont be, private schools are not necessarily safer then public (depending on where you live)..... so waht is it??? do they like wasting money?lol......... |
LOL but all in all my school is fun and a BIG joke lets see my classes (8periods) period1~history-he talked , nothing was about history until the last 10-15min period2~Hebrew~didnt teach PERIOD period3~Navi~talked about other things like books he read~ period4~chumash~absent 1/2 the year because she gave birth period5~english~WOW actually learned!! period6~Math~got fired after this year after making "comments" to a kid (u know wut i mean. period7~Talmud~umm lets see HAHA i laugh thikin about this teacher. he looked and talked like Marion. gave us chocolate if we LOOKED like we were listening period8~Science~Mo's class~funnest class~we actually learned but we watched movies like Napolean Dynomite and The Day after Tomorrow |
nah no one does drugs yet lol im only in middle school...my rents want me to go to jewish school...look at what i post up there...not really learning in this school! :p |
OMG....... why waste the money!!!!! 14,000 would have gotten me through all 5 years of college  ........ i have a few jewish friends and they refer to their school days as a joke as well, also..... in private school, they dont have to abide by the same requirements as public school teachers.... in all honesty i could teach at a private school right NOW!!! BUT public school teachers get better benefits and pay and retirement ect..... A freind of mine taught in a pricate preschool during the summer and she only lasted TWO WEEKS because she didnt agree with the ethics of the school ... PRESCHOOL children were left UNSUPERVISED (she contacted the heads of education ) and the child/teacher ratio is WAY HIGH (for preschool it was 34 to one..... and the state mandates a ratio of 12 to one) <-- they didnt have to abide by this rule because it was ONLY a summer program and preschool wasnt going all year round........... sooooooooo wrong........ anyways, what i am trying to say, is that your education is quite the "norm" it seems |
I went to Catholic grade school and then 1 year of Catholic high school. When I transferred to public high school my sophomore year I was way ahead of everyone. I think it definitely depends on the school and city. The public high schools around here are a JOKE. |
no the school is VERY good for preschool and elementry... the school itself is pretty and we get "bagel break" and lunch lol bagel break is 20 min and we can pay $1 for a bagel/creamcheese and lunch is free and we have the meat stuff that i avoid. i eat tuna/mayo/cucumber/tomato like everyday oy!!!!! the education is bad but wut can i do but hope i will switch. |

I went to Catholic school and my experience was great. I used uniform and at the time it really wasn't an issue. But that was then. I hope that everything works out for you. |
I agree that uniforms have thier pluses. Its nice not to have to pick out matching clothes in the morning. |

I have to take exception to this post. I am a parent who sends their child to private school and the lure is this: No mandates by the politicians and school boards. Money raised by the school and PTA can be used for providing students exactly what they need to succeed. Parents who actually care about their kids and are involved with providing and supportive and caring environments. Administrations that can custom plan curriculums and provide the children with challenging and intellectual learning plans. REX's mom: Yo should be grateful that your parents care so deeply about you that they spend tens of thousand each year to send you to school. This could be a yearly salary in some areas of the US. Both my husband and I went to private school and it has helped us greatly in our lives. Alumni Associations for private schools can provide endless resources for you later in life. Even at 6, my son understands the gift of the private education he receives here in Manhattan. No matter where you are, ther IS a difference between private and public. You will come out of a private education more enriched than your public school counterparts. SO, WHAT, you have to wear a uniform. Suck it up. Your parents are doing what's best for you. |
I had both of my kids in private school for 5 years. It got to the point that the rules were so ridicoulous (sp) that I couldn't stand it either. I let them both go to public school and they love it. There's a lot more to do, and it gives you freedom to grow up like every other kids. Try to get out of the school. Make a list of pro's and con's that you can give to your parents. I'd do a real good job on it because if the only thing you can tell them is you don't like the uniforms I don't think you'd have a chance. |

oh and you might want to change the wording of "parents who actually care about their kids and are involved with providing supportive and caring environments" i understand that you wanted to make sure we understood that a parent is doign a good thing and providing a suportive and caring environment, but the way is came out was a little off......... it sounded to me (and i know this is not what you meant, because i have read your posts enought to know you dont insult anyone intentionally)... anyways, the way you worded it makes it sound like parents who dont care about their kids just send them to public school again, you are passionate about this subject which is good, but there are good along wsith the bad and private schools are no exception. Just because it is a private school does not make it condusive to learning, actually, (and the same goes with public, i am not leaving them out......... i personally would not want to go to a public school in south central LA for instance).. so when it comes to parenting, a parent should look at all assets available to them, if the school doesnt allow the parent to enter or visit during school hours then it is kind of a redflag......... lol......i should post more stories on that one private school my friend worked at, it was TERRIBLE ( but it was the administrators choice to make it this way....... ) |
I agree with Chewysmom. I wasn't fortunate enough to be able to attend a private school (heck, I went without eating dinner a lot of times because my parents had no money) but if I could've, I would've. Be greatful you're parents are lucky enough to be able to spend $ on your education. |
Orinskye: To set it straight, you are right, i would never intentionally insult anyone on this board.. Next I want to say that you are just plain wrong in your statement that private school are held to no standards. They do have ethical and educational standards to uphold. If anything, the educational standards are usually higher in a private environment. Parents expect more, plain and simple. My sons first grade curriculum is that of 3rd grade in some public schools. He is given opportunities that could not be afforded to him in a public school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He will be studying things in middle school that others only get to in the last 2 years of public high school here. Also, regarding your statement of parents visiting the school. Since when has this become such an issue. Unless it is for a specific activity, parents do not belong in the classroom. I'm not looking for an argument, I'm just stating my opinion. Rex's mom's parents are giving her a great head start and all she can do is whine about wearing a uniform. Sounds very ungrateful and it just irritated me. |

anyways, back to the parents in school......... in this particular case parents were DISCOURAGED from having that caring relationship that you preached about because it was "detrimental to life experience and that kind of caring is not goign to help them in life" (these are the ADMINISTRATORS EXACT WORDS) again this is one school and i am by no means generalyzing i am sure private education IS (when the right people are running it) a better place to learn than public school because the kids are given more individual attention (something i DESPERATLY WISH i could do with my own kids :(...) as far as the uniforms........... i was not "irritated" but if you look above i did state that even public schools have to wear uniforms in my district ( i was pretty much saying tough luck, or oh well...... just not in those exact words) |
i personally think no matter what school your child goes to private public or homeschool its not the schools job to raise peoples children they are there to get an education not to teach them not to do drugs or anything else if people would start raiseing there children there wouldnt being so many teens turning to drugs and getting pregnant jmo REZ'sMOMMA <<<<<<<<<<i went to public school then i was homeschool pjs were my uniform lol when i went to public school i wished they had uniform every morning it was a fight for me to find something to were im very picky when it comes to clothes lol i was late every morning oh and i didnt know you were that young another mature one !!lol |
