High cost of shaving your legs
 

My 18 yr old asked me today to pick up some blades for her venus razor. One pack of replacement blades was over 20 dollars!!
What happened to th 5 dollar blades???
It seems like the cost of shaving is so HIGH!!!

My husband and I use the Mach 3 and I love them. Most disposible cause razor burn.
What do you guys use? I am looking for an affordable alternative.
My sd said she would try the Veet lotion it is 8 bucks. Not sure how this will work, work out or even if she will use it so it could just be a waste of money.

Oh I know, it's ridiculous. I saw this last night TV ad thing for a razor sharpener for blades for all razors. It was $10 bucks. Says it expands the life of your razor blade. Wonder if it's really worth it.

Every time I've tried the Veet or at home hair removal things, they've never worked. I've thought about getting a waxing but never have. I hate disposables too, hurt.

? Laser hair removal, may be worth the money when you factor purchasing razors for the next 45 years!

I used Nair for legs and I loved it, but it took too much time (that I didn't have). By the time you put it on, left it for 10 minutes, wiped off, then took a shower, it was well over an hour. The Nair did make the hair softer so that it became easier and easier to remove.

My girlfriend told me about waxing. She had been doing it for years. I bought the Nair hot was and the strips came with it. I did it one night, and I had tears coming from my eyes. It was the most painful thing ever!!

Now I have a battery operated razor that can be used in the shower. It is not as close as I would like it. So, last time I went to Walmart I bought the Nair that you use in the shower. You put on, and I think wait 4 minutes and shower off. I have not used it yet so I don't know how it works.

I know what you mean it is so unfair... I use a Shick Quattro which trust me is just as expensive or more then the Venus...

I thought about trying Nair but eh, I'd rather shave bc the Nair seems like a hassle. One of my friends got laser hair removal for her armpits and bikini area and I am so jealous!! I want to do that esp bc it is summer and everyone here LIVES at the river in a bikini in the summer. And the BF is always like hurry up lets go throw on a bathing suit...Uhhhh it's not that easy for girls, you have to make sure your legs aren't all hairy...boo.

We use the Mach 3. I told my dtr to use them until there almost dead.

ROFL....When I was in esthetician school, we had to do waxes on each other to practice and so we had to let the hair on our legs (etc) grow out so it could be waxed. After I spent all that time letting it grow out, one of my classmates took one strip off me and I said "THAT'S IT...NO MORE!!!"....I can't imagine having that done in more sensitive areas:eek:.

It really is shocking how much razor blades cost! My dh says it's b/c the cost of stainless has gone up so much, but as far as I'm concerned, they've always been pretty costly. You'd think that something so mundane would cost pennies:)

I really love the Schick Intuition with the soap on it because shaving is so quick, but the refills for that cost a mint, too. If I ever hit the PowerBall, it's laser removal for me!

BTW, anyone remember that medieval torture device from the 80's called the Epilady that ripped the hair out by the roots? (shuddering at the thought)

I use the Gellette Fusion, I had ran out of my razors once and had to nick one of my husbands and I loved how close of a shave I got so I have now made them mine as well:rolleyes:

I have very fair sensitive skin, I had tried Nair in the past and I got a rash from it. My mom got an Epilady when I was a teen and it was pure torture to use:eek: I then tried Nads when it first came out and I kid you not, my one leg bruised from it I was in so mush pain that I could not bring myself to do the other! it looked as if I was in an accident with how black and blue I got! ( I used it on my eyebrows first and it was not bad though) I feel why try any of the stuff anymore when it's easy and less painful just to shave with a razor. Laser hair removal sounds good to look into, but I am waiting for one of my 3 sister's to get it done first so I can see if she has any "Painful" story before I even think of doing it to myself;)

I would love to do laser..but my hair is blonde...it only works on dark hair:rolleyes:

Shop CVS and use a coupon. That combined with the ecb (money back) makes them free. I have dozens of them stocked up now! :D

It's a fun hobby! (And yes, I get more than razors--other good stuff too! :) )

I use the Venus too. So expensive!!! I used to live near a KMART that actually kept the razors locked up. You had to find an employee and have them unlock the razor case.

I remember and tried the epilady!!!!! HORRIBLE!!!! I'm really hairy and have sensitive skin, so frequent shaving is never comfortable. I started waxing last summer. I let a "professional" do it though. I really like the results. I lasts 5 weeks or so, and my hair is growing back finer, which is great! It does hurt, especially the first time, but after that, it's not so bad. Juliet

My husband and I use the Mach 3 ones and they are expensive too! I've often wondered if the cheapie disposal ones would do just as well. I just haven't used one of those in years. My daughters (ages 12 & 14) both use Veet and seem to be happy with it. As clumsy as my oldest is, I'm afraid to put a razor in her hand! LOL I remember all too well those behind the ankle nicks I used to get in the shower that would bleed forever!

My best friend had laser hair removal on her legs, bikini and underarm areas. I am SO jealous! But since it doesn't work well on blonde hair, that option is not so good for me anyway. On the upside though, I've noticed that as I get older, the hair doesn't grow as fast or thick. Hmmmm.... one of the "good" things about aging??? ;)

And yes, I remember the Epilady very well!! I was a teenager and just had to save up and buy one. It was torture..... as was the wax mess I tried a few years ago. Luckily my hubby doesn't mind so much when I get stubbly! :D

Oh, and just a tip...... I have found that if I use Paul Mitchell conditioner on my bikini area (with a razor), I don't have those horrible ingrown hairs like just shaving with shaving cream in the shower. I wait until I'm ready to put my bikini on and do it then. It works really great!

YES! However make sure that they guarantee it. I didn't do that and now my hair is slowly but surely growing back in the areas I had done (armpits and bikini).

Every time I go to buy razors (for me, dh, and dd) it costs an arm and a leg:eek:

we do it at my work. I've only had armpits done so far and it's already started growing back. The esthetician says it takes 5 or so treatments to get complete removal with none growing back. I'm on a mission to have my bikini and legs done. It would be great to not have to shave legs.

Veet works really good... its just hard for legs and bikini line bc you gotta stand almost spread eagle to make sure you dont smear it. Then just stand there for 10 mins... try a strip if its not long enough, stand there another 10 mins. It can be just too time consuming.

I absolutely LOVE the Intuition razor for woman. I think it lasts a long time, it shaves sooo smooth and the soap around it leaves your legs feeling sooo nice & smooth. ON CVS.com (local pharamacy here) 3 refill cartridges is $10. But they do last for a long time each.

I tried the last time I bought razors was the venus disposable ones and they work really well. I used to use the venus (ughh I forget the name its the vibrating one lol) and when I went to buy refills last time the price went up on them again so I bought the 3 pack disposable venus ones they were cheaper then my others. I like them alot but the handle is alot lighter then Im used to but Im fine with it now

I actually noticed the Veet strips a few weeks ago at the store and considered buying those for my oldest daughter (for the bikini area) but haven't yet. They work well??

Generally speaking, I don't like those one that have soap attached to it! They always fall out after couple shaves!

I too use the Schick Intuition. I love it. You need no shaving gel/lotion My daughter and I use it,and the replacement although are expensive, I also buy at CVS and they keep track of my spending,and I get coupons,so they end up being free or next to nothing!!!:D

I guess I'm lucky. I use 99cent shave cream, and have a big packet of Gillette Disposables that may last me 2 years. I don't need to shave but once a week or less. I don't grow leg hair too quickly. I don't need nuthin' fancy, my skins not sensitive.:rolleyes:

I'm with you! I love Intuition - the blades cost a bit but you save on shaving cream since it has the lotion built in. Love that I can just keep it in the shower and grab it for a quick shave - no prep work required.

And yeah, I had an Epilady too back in the day. *shudder*

I use a the men's fusion razor. I have issues with women's razors. They never cut close enough and my skin is really sensitive. The only thing I've been happy with is the Fusion.
