When you were a kid..... What are some of the expressions your parents used when talking to you? You know...like when you are in trouble, or...when getting the old 'pep' talk, or...just general expressions that they used. One that we got: You'll be okay. If it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger. |

I remember when i told my mom that i was "Going steady" (i was so excited mind you!) She told me if i want to go steady "take x-lax"! That was so mean!.....lol:D |
My mom's stock answer to the question why? was, because I said so and I'm the mother and that's good enough.:rolleyes: She was also fond of, life's not fair, get used to it. I'm a better mom than she was and my daughter is a better kid than I was so these god awful expressions aren't used in my house.:p |
"Always wear clean underwear!" ;) was my favorite. As far as expressions, if mom took us to her friends homes and they offered us anything to eat or drink, we would always have to look at her for the signal-- the approving nod :thumbup: or the disapproving LOOK :eek: |
My Mom used to say something like, "Stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about." Obviously it didn't have to much effect on me because I'm not even sure if I worded it correctly. :p |
How about... I brought you into this world, I can be the one to take you out!!!, heard that a lot...lol I also got the ... So if all your friends were jumping off the bridge, would you still do it?? Heck Yeah! |
If I say "You can't make me" she'll say "I already made you." Yeah....that one bugs me. If I say "that's not fair" I get "A fair is where they give a prize for the biggest cow." "because I said so." and so on. :p |

I got this a lot "If you don't straighten up I'll return you to the tree stump in the woods I rescued you off of" I seriously thought my dad found me on a tree stump for the longest time :) |
My Dad would say you want a racetrack around your eye or a cauliflower ear, never hurt is just liked to say it. My Mom said there's a reason for everything and this to shall pass besides most of the ones mentioned above |
My mother always said "Knock it off or I'll knock your teeth down your throat". I always hated it, but it straightened me up when she said it. My father never lifted a hand to any of us - but my mother sure did. :) |
