HELP!!! Flea bites!! :( :( Lately, I've been waking up with flea bites on my body. I have cleaned just about everything (Linens, etc)--even went out and purchased new pillows--and still am getting them! Daisy gets her Advantix once a month (We've never had this problem before)..The only thing I can think of is the carpet in our bedroom. It gets vacuumed regularly . Is there a carpet cleaner I can get to effectively kill them all if they are on my carpet?? Please any suggestions/ advice would be helpful and appreciated!! Please,,I'm itching like mad!! :thumbdown:thumbdown:( |
I don't know about carpet cleaners, but if you really want to get rid of them for sure, then you should bug bomb your house. When I lived in Cali, we had THE WORST infestitation of fleas & we had to bug bomb our house. After that we never had fleas ever again. The bug bomb stuff we bought we got from Target. -Amy |

I have a young baby too and wouldn't want any toxic stuff lingering around where she can touch it. :( Also, I'm the only person in the house getting bitten! They never get hubby and baby's got none either. |
I didn't ever find flea bombs very effective. You can buy boriac acid...it's a powder. Sprinkle it into the carpet, then brush it in. It will eliminate the fleas immediately and continues to kill any new ones that may get in the carpet. |
Unfortunatly while a bomb is the most effective way to get rid of them they are toxic, If you type the word fleas in the search here a lot of threads come up that should be helpful |
I would call an exterminator. Tell them you have a baby and that will determine what they can use. Fighting them yourself is a losing battle, IMO Flea bites are awful!! |
Adams Products has something you can treat your carpet with AND they also have a mist you can spray right on your pet - I remember years ago my husband used it and his inside /outside dogs NEVER had fleas Adams Flea and Tick Products |

ps - Frontline Plus is way better than advantix |
A few quick things I've heard but I don't know how effective they are. Put a flea and tick collar in your vaccuum bag that way any fleas you pick up will die in the bag. Also, you can sprinkle table salt in your carpet and brush it in. Wait a few hours before you vaccuum it up. One last tip is to put a small dish of water with Dawn on the floor at night under a small light (night light and green works best) the fleas will be attracted to the light and fall in the water and then the dish soap kills them. Again, I'm not sure how well they work, but they are fairly holistic approaches. |
Don't let the name boriac acid scare you off. It's a product routinely used in horse barns to control flies. |
I'm in the same boat you're in! We bombed our house and it did nothing! We used Adam's fogger plus. I did the soapy white dish and a lamp and that didn't work either. Our animals are also on Frontline Plus and this is the 2nd house we've had a problem in. I'm definitely looking for a new flea prevention. We just put boric acid down last night. Hopefully it'll work. If you find something that works, PLEASE!! pm me! |
OK y'all, so I went to the store and bought RAID flea carpet spray. Just sprayed the bedroom. I also saw the "Boric Acid" but it said it was for roaches and flies. I see here some of you wrote 'Boriac acid' and some wrote 'Boric acid'...are they both the same? If I get that stuff will it work with fleas? Thanks I really appreciate your responses!! Please keep them coming,, I'm itching like a monkey!:thumbdown |
I have more bad news sweetie - you'll have to re-treat - the flea eggs are what's on the floors / carpets /bedding etc and from what I read this morning about them is they can live for 2 freakin months ! it makes me itch thinking about those nasty nasty blood sucking worthless jumping biting scumbag creatures |

Arrghh, I even went and bought flea shampoo for Daisy. She's not too happy right now. I bathed her and put her in her crate--while I'm cleaning. lol |
Do you live in a house with a yard? If so, you need to get them out of the yard, or you will never get them out of your house completely. Before we had our dogs, we used to have two indoor cats - their paws never touched the outdoors and we would track the fleas inside on our shoes/pants and they would get a few fleas. So, in my experience, you must treat the yard. I treat it organically and can tell you how to do that, if you have a yard. |

I have a yard and am terrified of poisons. Last time I had contact with strong insecticide I got hives and had them for two years. Was told that the chemicals bind with the fatty tissue in body and stay for a long, long time. I have these catapillars eating my petunias and I tried to organically eradicate them. Didn't work. I had to hand pick them off and they are very hard to find (!!!) plus they disgust me!!!! I am very interested in an organic treatment that works. |
If you bathe Daisy regularly yourself, both Buddy Wash and Minksheen are frull of essential oils that are a natural flea repellent. Also, make sure to vaccuum your mattress as well. These little buggers get everywhere and are very hard to get rid of. They tend to love carpet and upholstered furniture especially and flea eggs continually hatch, so you'll need to retreat every few days for a couple of weeks. |
You need to use BT - Bacillus thuringiensis to control catepillers. It will only kill the catapillers, nothing else. Bacillus thuringiensis Here's the natural flea control. I do not use chemicals on my babies, or in the yard, so this is what I do. I realize that some people have large yards or there may be other reasons that this won’t work for everyone, but here goes…… Beneficial nematodes are the answer to flea control in your yard. Read more about them here Beneficial Nematodes They are microscopic organisms that feed on a variety of soil insects and they will keep fleas, etc. out of your yard. If you have fleas in your yard, then you will never get them off your baby. Of course, if you live in an apartment, then this solution won’t work for you. Also, that does not mean that your baby won't get a flea when they go on a walk or that a flea might crawl over into your yard from the neighbors yard. But that can be controlled by bathing your babies in Dawn dishwashing soap or some other non-toxic method. If there are no fleas in your yard, then you CAN win the battle. The nematodes will also keep the fire ants out of your yard and that is a great benefit to those of us who live in the south. I have used the nematodes for about 8 years and have not had a flea problem in all that time. I have outdoor dogs living on both sides of my yard too. The nematodes work great! Prior to using nematodes, I did have an infestation in my house. Boric acid sprinkled in the carpet will take care of them - but you have to get control in the yard too. You can usually get beneficial nematodes at any organic gardening store. They can also be ordered, but they must be kept cool or they will die, so if you order them, be sure the supplier plans to cool ship them. Also, follow the directions EXACTLY for putting them on the yard. They are best applied late in the evening and you have to water the yard before you put them on and then after you put them on - so you will be watering after dark in most cases. You will have to water your yard in the summer when it is very dry, enough so that the nematodes do not dry up and die - maybe once a week or so, if it is not raining. Even though they live down into the soil, they will dry up and die, if there is not enough rain and you don't water the yard. I have outdoor dogs on both sides of my yard so I put diatamaceous earth around the perimeter of my yard to keep the fleas from crawling into my yard. It works great, but it must be reapplied after a heavy rain. It is also a non-toxic pest control substance. http://www.hydromall.com/happy_grower16.html I sprinkle it on my roses to control little pesky bugs who want to chew the leaves!!! I know is sounds a little nutty, but it really works! Good luck! |
