Not sure if this helps houston bugs or not but you can buy ladybugs at lowe's. They keep our roses aphid free and i always see a lot in our veggie garden. So far, I haven't seen any other bugs in our garden so i hope they are working in there too :p We planted corn, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, radishes, some melons and a few other things. |
We have grapes but I am also going to plant raspberries and tomatoes |
I don't but i want to. I did buy a strawberry plant before and the strawberries grew and were very small cause they were organic but were soooo sweeet!! |
I'm glad I'm growing my own veggies now that all this salmonella thing is going on. One of my tomato plants it's beautiful and healthy looking and it grows, and grows and grows, but it doesn't produce any tomatoes, on the other hand, the other tomato plant looks a little weaker and I have put some stuff for the bugs and it's not as tall as the other one, but that one is the one that keeps giving me tomatoes like crazy. I don't mind at all, I love seeing the tomatoes growing and turning yellow and the red, it's like a big accomplishment to me, but why is the weaker one producing more tomatoes than the healthy looking plant? Has this happened to ya'll? Any input would be appreciate it :) |

Anyway, the person asking about bug control - you can also sprinkle on diatamaceous earth. It's a powder and is organic, won't hurt anything. You can get it at organic garden stores. |
We did our first garden this year. Me and dh have been together for 10 years, don't know why we waited this long, we both said we enjoyed tilling and planting with each other. Anyways, we planted corn, lettuce, beans, radishes, cucumber, watermelon, carrots, onions, white and green, 3 tomato plants, and cantaloupe. Everything came up except the carrots, my onions, and 1 row of lettuce. I cant wait till i can have some fried green tomatoes, we have already been able to eat some lettuce and radishes, and they were awesome. |
Yummmm...love fried green tomatoes....this year I only have cherry tomatoes, green bell peppers, cilantro and jalenano peppers. I have a very limited planting space...and would love to plant zucinni/pumpkin/catalope but space doesn't permit it... |
I have a fairly large garden this year. I am going to pick up some borax tomorrow for a few pests I am getting. I dont like harsh pesticides and buy organically whenever I can. My summer squash and tomato plants are doing awesome this year! I have about 15 different types of veggies planted. I will get a pic of the garden tomorrow. |
