Anyone else get a letter? I received a letter in the mail about our stimulus payment. 1. They are not giving us $300 for my oldest daughter who is 17. It says she has to have a birthday after Dec 31st 1990. Her DOB is July 1990. I don't get it? We still support her and should be intitled to that $300 for her. We claimed her. 2. We should be getting $1200 for filing married jointly, but they are only giving us $669.00 ??? I'm so confused! Anyone else getting jipped and received a letter in the mail?? |
I don't understand that either. I hope someone can help you figure out what's going on- that sounds crazy! |

My hubby is at work and now I have to break this news to him when he gets home. |
I know my daughter and her boyfriend both got letters saying their payments would be only around $300 rather than the $600 they thought and it had something to do with the amount of their income versus deductions. My hubby and I thought we wouldn't be getting one at all because we owe, but ours was direct deposited (in full) on Friday, so off went the check in the mail to the IRS. Thank goodness we didn't owe much more than the stimulus check was for!!! Hope you get it worked out!!! |

We got the full $1500 we were expecting. The way I understood it, anyone who made over $3000 last year and filed their taxes would get $600 for singles, $1200 per married couple plus $300 per minor child. This really stinks that their are loop holes that nobody knew about.:thumbdown |
I got the letter today saying I would get the 1200 by 5/12. I haven't checked my account yet. My dtr is 22 and I don't think she will get anything even though she is in college and works PT as she made 14,000.00 and I claim her on my taxes. |
We were expecting a lot more too. Our money isn't going to be going as far as we had hoped. |
If you made over $150,000 as a couple, they will pro-rate it. (Not a problem I have:), but one of my friends got about the amount you describe because they exceed the $75,000 per limit. I don't get the kid thing, though I saw that if the kid was 18 you wouldn't get credit. That's just stupid. :confused:If the kid is in school, who do they think is taking care of them, Mother Goose? And anyone who is named as a dependent on someone else's return, can't file for their own refund. |
My husband and I filed jointly, but we are only getting 600. not the 1,200. Don't know why. I will take anything they want to give us.:) |
my older sister only had 600 direct deposited to her not the 900 since she has a 4 yr old? |

We got our payment, but our son was born 12/04 so we didn't get money for him. That really made me angry. He is a Jr in HS and we still have all of the expenses for him that we have for our 15 year old. I could see if they cut it off at 18 (even though next year he'll be a Sr at 18) but what were they thinking cutting it off at 17? It makes no sense what so ever. They didn't pay for any child that turned 17 before 12/31 (My friend's son turned 17 on 12/30 she was really annoyed!) |
There were a couple loopholes such as the 17 yr olds, Income over 75,000 single 150,000 couple. There was also one about if your tax lability was less then 600 you would receive a prorated amount so. At Internal Revenue Service there is a bunch of FAQ's that deal with alot of different questions. |
I'm working two jobs to keep my head above water. That income put me out of the running for any stimulus payment. Feel fortunate that you get what you get. |
When people say you requested dd does that mean for the stimulios check utself or your tax return in general? |
I'm sorry you aren't getting what you expected. I got the full $600, but honestly I would have been happy with anything since it's like free money that I didn't earn. |

I did not get the full amount I was expecting either. I was the first in my goup to get the deposit so all my friends are now warned them might not get the full amount.Everyone overlooked the "upto" in the wording. It does seem odd to me the people who make less and need the money more are only getting part and the one who dont need it are getting the full amount. Governmaent, go figure. |

Also, about the age cut-off - it was the same thing a few years back when they started giving an extra $300 per child deduction. Your dependent child had to be born after a certain date to qualify. Which wasn't/isn't fair - most kids are still at home and dependent until at least 18! Shoot - both of mine are still at home and are 20 and 22  I copied the information below and included the link to the IRS site - hope it helps answer some questions. Q. Is my stimulus payment taxable? A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment. Q. If my stimulus payment is not going to affect my 2008 tax refund or increase the tax I owe next year, why is it I need to retain the letter that lists how much I received? A. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount on your 2007 return but you do on your 2008 return, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received. [New 4/11/08] Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008? A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return. Economic Stimulus Payment FAQs: Basic Eligibility |
We havn't gotten ours at all yet. It should've been Direct deposited on Friday at the latest as stated on the website, but it's not there. I looked through all the FAQ and nothing pertains to us...no clue where ours is. :( Knowing our luck we won't get it for some reason. |
1099'd? I worked as an independent contractor last year and paid all of my taxes at the end of the year. I don't have any children. Does anyone know if I'll be getting the stimulus check? I sure could use it right now!! Thanks. |
I made 14,000 last year. I claim my two grown disabled kids on my taxes. With them being disabled I recieve the earned income for them each year. My Stimulus check was $300. Even tho I take complete care of them they did not count because of their age. |

No it is not an advance on any refund. In order to receive $300 per child....that child must be under 17...which is the cut off age for the child care credit. If you are unable to use that credit...that child does not qualify. Here's a link from irs.gov...FAQ - Economic Stimulus Payments: Most Frequently Asked Questions |
