Question re baby chickens.. For those who have/had chickens. How do you find a place that sells baby chicks? I know of hatcheries, but we don't need that many.. I haven't really found a place that sells 10 or so baby chickens. I've been googling feed stores but haven't had any luck. My mom had some chickens. They were SO OLD.. probably 8+ years old but they still laid eggs! :p Recently, two rotties broke into the chicken house and killed them ALL (probably 10-15 chickens) and she was mentioning liking to replace them but not being able find a place. Any suggestions? |
Our tractor supply stores (TSC) get them in the spring, also ducklings & bunnies. Check with the local feed mill or the County Extention Office also, the kids will be getting them for 4-H and to show at the fair. |
We got baby chicks for our preschool class one time.. i'm googling trying to find the place now. |
if your interested in actually watching them hatch: http://www.carolina.com/product/chic...by=bestMatches i have no idea if the chickens would sit on eggs that weren't theirs? If not you might have to get an incubator. |
gosh, i can't imagine not being able to find chicks! feed stores are overrun with them around here. We just added 6 to our little chicken family. Are there any dairies around you? |
Every few years, I hatch baby chicks myself. I called cooperative extension and they gave me a farmer in the area and I got the eggs from him. I don't really live in the county and gave the chicks to a friend of my in laws but the farmer said he would take them back as well so maybe you could try cooperative extension and go from there? |
a family member of mine ordered chicks thru the mail. he has done it more than once, but not for sure who he ordered from. A place online called cackle hatchery has info on it, but I don't know anything about them. They have a price list and gives a price if you want less than 25. hope this helps. |

I used to love chickens and I once hatched a few! I believe there was three. It was a lot of fun! How long do you have to keep them inside before they can go out? I don't even remember- it's been so long. |

Thanks for your help! |
Our feed stores get them in also. I think you can also buy them at state fairs- like if you want rare or unique ones? |
