Help...Has this every happened to you? (ANOTHER personal female question). Alright, so, I debated on posting this here wondering if it was too personal or if people would REALLY want to heat about this. But then I decided I really need support and who better to turn to than my new YT friends?? So, last week I went in for my normal yearly pap at the gyno. I got a call yesterday saying that saying that my doctor wanted to come in and dicuss my results with me. This of course threw my into a panic bc I KNEW something was wrong if they couldn't tell me the results over the phone. So...I went in this morning and she told me my results were abnormal. i have a few abnormal cells and they are going to need to go in and do a biopsy...meaning take a piece of tissue and examine it further. I made an appointment for the procedure to be done in 2 weeks...and I'm really scared. Has anyone gone through this before?? Had this procedure done? Does it hurt? What's it like? Any words of encouragement? I'm sorry this is just fairly new news and I cannot stop thinking about it. |
Sweetie, my 33 year old daughter just went thru this same thing last year. She had the biopsy and it came back normal. She also had that blood test and it came back abnormal. They said she was precancerous so she just goes in for a pap every six months. I hope that yours comes back ok. I will keep you in my prayers. |
I pmed you. |
Haven't experienced it but I wanted to hold your hand and let you know your in my prayers. |
Sorry..I wasn't finished. I did have the procedure done. It is uncomfortable and will cause a bit of bleeding and menstral like cramping after but nothing to worry yourself over. Stay calm. Chances are it is just some kind of flare up or something that will be normal the next time. |
Don't freak out It happens alot . My cousin got the same result. Like blood results, you have a range of results Example-108-149 Even if it's 150 it going to register as abnormal. It only means that she goes in for paps more often. Maybe every 6 mo. but hers have cleared up. They do a punch biopsy and send it out. Let us know how you amke out. Good Luck!!! |
I had an abnormal pap last year and had to go back for the biopsy it was a little uncomfortable but it was over quickly when I got my test results back they cam back normal. So who knows. |
I have no experience with this, but I just wanted to tell you that I will be thinking of you. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Tammy |
I had this same experience last year...my pap spear came back abnormal and I had to go back and have a biosopy done to get further information. It was a longer procedure and a little uncomfortable but it was by no means painful. My results for that one came back normal and I had to go every six months for the next year and if everything came back normal again I was fine, just have to make sure I get a pap spear every year from now on. It is a scary thing, but try not to worry...we are there for you if you need it!! |
I've had a colposcopy and biopsy twice for low grade cell changes. Now my paps are completely normal all on their own so they aren't quite sure what caused it. I've heard that it can be painful, but let me tell you I am the biggest baby about pain and I was totally fine! I didn't feel anything being cut, it just felt like another pap to me and it was over. The worst part was worrying about it! I think people finding out they have abnormal paps is more common now because they are testing for more, even my mother who's in her 40s and has never had an irregular pap had one last year. Hers were more high grade and they removed the cells and now she's fine. It really isn't that bad and I wish you all the luck! If you have any questions you can pm me also! ETA -- I also never had any cramping or bleeding after the biopsy but I think it depends how much tissue they take. |
I have had 3 Colpos/biopsy over the last 5 years and the last time it came back as high grade and I had the LEEP done to remove the cells but chances are your biopsy will come back LGSIL which will normally clear up on its own just make sure you dont miss any appts.. |
I know you are worried but chances are its nothing to worry about. It happens so often to women and i think it really is unfair to put us through the stress and worry...my friends pap came back abnormal nd when she went in to repeat it, it came back normal. she asked her GYN why her first one came back abnormal and her response was...it happens sometimes! There are a few reasons it can come back abnormal such as having sex, douching or using any creams 72 hours before the pap smear, a yeast infection can also cause an abnormal pap. another reason could be that the doc did not get a good enough sample, or the lab messed up somewhere along the lines. here is something I found that should make you feel at ease :) "Around 1 in 10 Pap smears will show changes in the cells of the cervix. These are rarely cancer. In fact, less than 1% of abnormalities are cancer." Pray and ask him to give you the peace you need to not worry :) |
I just want to thank you all for you caring words and advice. I'm actually really glad I posted this, after hearing all your experiences, I feel much more at ease about the whole thing. Sometimes you just need the support of other women who have been there. Just another reason I love YT!!! Well I go for the procedure on May 16, I'm sure everything will be just fine, it's just a little unnerving. I'll let everyone know how it went. Again, thank you ladies!!!! Big hug! :ghug: |
Looks like a lot of us have had this happen before. The biopsy is a bit uncomfortable, more like a pinch I found. Just a tiny bit of bleeding. My results also came back normal. My sister has had two abnormals and had to have the cells removed but it never seemed like a big deal. I'll be praying yours will come back fine. Keep your chin up. |
I had an abnormal one about 7+ years ago and I just had to go in every 6 months until I had 3 clear ones. I've been fine ever since until last year, but it turned out to be nothing. |
