What I didn't ask for is some one to bash a type of dog! I said that I wanted to get a Pit and asked for one the word that jump into peoples minds when they hear Pitbull. thats all. I understand your position as far as pitbulls go so just drop it as you have said your bit ok???!!!

There have been so many threads about pit bulls on this site. The only thing that ever comes out of them is that you aren't going to change anyone's mind about whether they like or dislike pitbulls. This thread could go on for 20 pages and the opinion you started out with is the opinion you will end with. You either like pit bulls or you don't, but I don't think anyone is going to change someone else's opinion on the subject. It's an agree to disagree topic. JMHO.

Amen! the one thing I wish though, is that people wouldn't judge those of us that own pits. It breaks my heart when someone says flat out my dog deserves and needs to be killed, just because of her breed. I love her just as much, if not more, than most people on here love their yorkies.

i wish people would be more considerate with their words when talking about someone else's pet. Those of us that own pits or who have pits very close in our lives are saddened and hurt and angry when someone else says your dog should be killed because its a pit bull (and most times these people have no experience with the breed themselves, they are only going off hearsay).

a pit bull is someone's pet, just like our yorkies are our pets. they are someone's best friend and baby no matter what size or breed they are.

I dont think anyone said that they deserve to be killed. I DID say (and stand by it) that they should not be bred anymore, but specifically said that I dont think they should all be euthanized tho. I have had tons of pit experience first hand with immediate family and working in the vets office to give me enough "education" on the breed itself. I probably have more pit experience than almost everyone here, including current pit owners.
People who choose to own pits, thats their business, but I will never allow my children to visit a home that has one. Just as I wouldnt allow them to visit a home that has loaded guns in the house.

And murderers and pedophiles are someones children or friends too, doesnt mean I would ever want my family exposed to one, or want one in my own family.
I am sure when someone chooses to own a pit, they are aware of the contraversy surrounding them. So it shouldnt be a surprise when someone has a negative reaction to them.
What I dont understand is that pro-pit people keep getting offended about what people are saying about pits (even tho someone asked the question), yet they can say that only uneducated and ignorant people are against pits. :confused: Like that isnt offensive??

I used to not be pro yorkie :D I had only ever been around my cousins (and an ooooold one my grandma took care of shortly) and it was aweful. My cousin had bought hers off of a homeless man living in a van, so he was scared of everyone, and the one grandma had...well that was definitely an old persons dog. No offense to any older people or their dogs, lol. He was actually my "grandpa"'s dog. He was the very elderly man my grandma took care of, and no one could come near either one of them when the dog was there.
My sil has a yorkie, and while she's not the prettiest yorkie I have ever seen, she is very nice. Now I am glad that I got mine. If you would of asked me a few years back though, I would have said I hated them, lol. Not for any aggresiveness issue, but I just figured they were a shy dog.

Murderers and pedofiles have all chosen to and been convicted of doing something wrong.

Dogs are dogs. They cannot conciously make a decision the way that a human being who commits a crime can. And not ALL pitbulls are killers. That is what she was getting at. Just because the BREED in GENERAL has been "known" to do things, doesn't mean they all have and they should all be punished for it.

Just a question Megan, if a pitbull killed your brother (even though the dog did not consider it murder) would you recommend a pit as a pet for someone?

I do not believe that dogs cannot make a decision to do right or wrong. Obviously they arent held to a moral standard as people are, but they know what they arent supposed to do most of the time. There would be no point in training them if they couldnt learn that. My Lola will run half way up the backyard when called, then make a decision that she does not want to come in if the weather is nice. She will lay down, and turn her head to the side when I am calling her, almost pretending to not listen. She KNOWS I am calling her, yet she is rebelling. Cleo has growled at the kids a couple of times. Each time, she quickly looked at me and ran to her crate because she didnt want to get scolded.
I dont believe for one minute that dogs dont know the difference. They might not understand "murder" or other moral sins, but our pets know they arent supposed to injure people. If they dont, then they shouldnt be pets.

how did I know that there was going to be rude comments on this thread? We are always saying we want to keep YT drama free and have everyone respect each other but yet threads get started knowing that they will get heated. I think we all as members need to think before we start controversial threads that we know wont benefit members here.

This subject has been debated on here so many times and never have peple agreed. We all have opinions and no one is wrong with their opinion it is based on their own personal experiences which are different for everyone. It is a definite agree to disagree subject

I feel that you cannot judge an ENTIRE breed of dog on the actions/inactions of a few bad owners. Yes, there are lots of pit attacks, however there are also lots of attacks by other dog breeds that you never hear of. Pits are controversial in the eyes of the media, so that's what gets the coverage:rolleyes: I have known some very sweet pits that were so loving and gentle, thanks to good owners and training. Unfortunately it seems that the breed attracts SOME not-so-nice people that want to own one of these dogs for all the wrong reasons:( ANY dog can be a danger to others. The number one breed of all reported dog bites? Dalmations!

Exactly! Everyone is going to have their own opinions on the breed. If someone doesn't like them, then they don't have to own one. Not everyone is always going to like the same breeds, so we might as well accept that.

For me personally, I don't have anything against the breed in general. I know some are dangerous, some aren't, but that goes for every dog breed out there. If I ever was to own a pitbull, I would have to do massive amounts of research on the breed, and the breeder and the lines I'm getting the pitbull from just to be safe. That goes for other breeds I would consider owning as well, especially while I have my yorkies (which I always plan to have a yorkie) or if I have children. It's really sad that too many idiots have gotten ahold of the breed and now they have a terrible reputation, but there are still nice pits out there that many people overlook. Just like how there are so many BYB for yorkies, breeding extra tiny, very sick, little puppies. While some people are breeding and completely ruining the breed, that doesn't mean that every yorkie is going to be tiny or sick. I'm sure the same can be said for many other breeds as well. But this is all my personal opinion, just wanted to voice it. Not here to change anyone elses mind or argue if pitbulls are good dogs or not.

A pit went after Rusty. Not quite the same thing, but still. I can't honestly say how I would react in that kind of situation, because (thank God) I've never been in that kind of situation. but I would try to remind myself that every single pit didn't kill whoever, one did. I probably wouldn't want to be around them anymore, but I would still know that every single pitbull isn't bad.

I don't know. I just don't see ANY sense in banning such a beautiful breed based on the things that a few of them do wrong. Everyone should have their own right to decide whether or not they want to take the "risk" of owning a pitbull.

The thing is, a lot of pits that do actually attack (and aren't just mistaken with another breed) haven't been trained properly. Or if they are something throws them off. I know very well that the pit that went after my dog was trained, but he was trained TO go after dogs and people. In that case, i know that it wasn't his fault. He was trying to please his ja****s of an owner. And ANYTHING can set off a dog. They spook just like every other dog. Have you ever noticed your dog jump if it gets scared? Maybe even go a little crazy and bark or growl? It happens with every breed.

Yorkies have been bred down to be small little lap dogs. Pitbulls are bred to be strong animals. They are often not exercised enough, which can also add to them freaking out and attacking people.
