I can't remember the formula (hope someone else has it) but there is supposed to be a natural mix with white vinegar and something else that is natural and kills the little buggers. I wish I could remember it, as I'm finding ants here too. |
Do you know what kind of ants? If they are Argentine ants (the teeny tiny ones), they are hard to get rid of. They are often found in bathrooms (looking for water). Once ants find food or water, the lay down a trail back to the nest so their buddies can also find it. The only thing that we've found that works on that type of ant is Terro - it's a liquid but it can be purchased already inside traps. And it is safe for pets. Coby got ahold of one I missed a couple of months ago, and here's what I found on the Terro site: FAQ:: I accidentally stepped on one of the ant traps. How toxic is this bait and will this exposure harm me? What if my cat or dog gets into the bait and eats some? TERRO® Liquid Ant Bait is a sweet food based product similar to pancake syrup combined with Borax. Borax is a mineral that is mined in the desert in California and is a common active ingredient that is used in soap products such as 20 Mule Team Borax. The product kills ants but will not harm people or pets. If you spill some on your skin there will be no reaction at all. Simply wash with warm water. Pets occasionally find the Terro and eat it. Our advice when this happens is to do nothing at all. The product is not toxic enough to cause a problem and the pet will be just fine. |
I second the Terro! We had ants bad last year and no matter how many traps I bought they continued to come. Someone on YT, maybe you, For_My_Coby, suggested the Terro. I got it at Wal-Mart. It worked great! It took a few days but we haven't had any ants back since! |
I will give a third to the Terro. Love the stuff!!! |
We have the same prob. We have been using Zodiac spray. But I am going to try Terra. Thanks.:) |
We had carpenter ants a few years ago - these are the bigger black ants but they aren't huge like I thought. They really are attracted to moist areas and our air conditioner unit was a window model and the moisture from that was getting down into the window sill and really attracted the ants. We were going crazy trying to figure out where the nest was, pulled apart cabinets and everything. Then we pulled back some of the sheetrock under the window and they went running everywhere! Yuck! It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it right now. There were literally hundreds of them. Prior to that, I would find 5 or 6 a day in the kitchen. Anyways, I found out that carpenter ants are not attracted to sugary things like other ants but to high fat items. I had a carton of soy milk in the cabinet and apparently it leaked so they were all really attracted to that too. What we eventually did, was spray the outside foundation just like an exterminator would do and we have had no problems since then. This was before we had Zoe though so I would caution you to be extra careful with your yorkies and keep them away from where you spray for awhile! |
My grandmother had ants really bad last year and this year...two different kinds of small ones....I think one kind was small and black...another small and a brownish color. They tried different forms of Terro and it has worked well!!! Before trying Terro, they tried everything everyone recommended...from all-natural mixes to all commercial stuff....like borax and raid, etc. These never really worked. We live in a newer home that we built ourselves...we made it a point to make sure all corners and such were caulked WELL....but this year....we have had soooooo much rain...and have notice some little black ants....like they are coming in to get out of the wet. We bought some of the Terro outdoor bait stations and put them on the covered porches (out of all the dogs reach) and we haven't had a problem w/ them since! |
Oh great post! I've been wondering what I could use that wouldn't hurt Meeko. We had a little ant problem a month ago and I had no idea what I could use. I'm so glad you started this thread and I can look back to it if they ever decide to come back! |
I remember someone once mentioning using cornmeal (just sprinkle it around), but I can't remember why.....I haven't looked it up. |
Are the ants going to be horrible this year or what? We have them EVERYWHERE. I threw away so much food, just because I don't trust it.... Our landlord has never sprayed for bugs, and she forgot to mention that. But. I guess everyone is having trouble. I feel like I have bugs all over me!! Went to walmart and they didn't have much ant stuff left, so it must be a bad year. Great. Wonder how the year for fleas and ticks are going to be? |
Avon's Skin So Soft I swear it's a miracle when it comes to ants!!! Try Avon's SKIN SO SOFT!! I highly highly highly recommend it!!! |
