ferninator has anyone ever heard of this comb called the Ferminator? i have a friend who uses it on her 3 yorkies, and she tried it on my little one, and it seems to work well getting the MATS out. however, she told me, that if your dog DOESNT shed, to ask about it first. our dogs dont shed, so im curious IF they should not use it. |
I actually have the furminator for my golden/cocker mix. It works wonders on my cat too. It does say on the website certain breeds to not use it on. I believe yorkies are included in the "don't use this on" list. I would recommend it if you have other breeds that do shed cause it does work wonders! FURminator |
hummm, i read under the F&Q tab, wehre you click on furmenator, and it gives you a list of dogs that should NOT use it. I am REALLY surprised that a YORKIE is not listed on there. they do not shed. |
oops! my bad! i must have thought of maltese. Yorkies are on the "can use on" list. any one used it on their yorkie? |
no problem, wonder WHY you cant use on the maltese, the website doesnt tell you, and i have a maltese too! this tool sounds like it is specifically for dogs that SHED, yorkies do not! hummm. Kinda scares me to use on them. it takes out alot of hair... |
I use the furminatior on my 3 yorkies!! I love the job is does .....My Yorkies love it also... It gets out dried food and debris very easily...since they have long coats. I have been using it for a year with no problems. Great for getting out matted hair...which I have not had anymore since using the furminator at least once a week...I avoid the tender areas...never on their bellies. I clicked on a Ask a Vet ad...and ask a question about the furminators use on a Yorkie...and he wanted $ 15.00 to answer my question...I clicked off. Nikeann07:animal-pa |
FIFTEEN DOLLARS! you've GOT to be kidding me????? im waiting to hear any others comments. thanks. |
Yes...$15.00!! $15.00 before he would answer the question...he did say if I was pleased with his answer I should pay it....I never heard of this...I did ask the question first ( Should a furminator tool be used on a Yorkie and if not..why?)...then a window saying he would answer for a fee ...he already knows what the question was going to be. He wanted my user name and e-mail... it was like an account. |
be patient, these gals, are sure to have an answer for us! |
My aunt uses it on her yorkies and I use it on my Persians..it is awesome:D |
thank you for sharing. im hoping to hear alot more possitive comments about using it on the yorkies. i wonder Why they say Dont use on mahas anyone ever heard of this comb called the Ferminator? i have a friend who uses it on her 3 yorkies, and she tried it on my little one, and it seems to work well getting the MATS out. however, she told me, that if your dog DOESNT shed, to ask about it first. our dogs dont shed, so im curious IF they should not use it. maltese??? |
I have one for my cocker and we used it on our min pin when he was alive. LOVED it for them...I did use it on maggie once but I am not sure if I liked it for her or not. I don't think it "hurt" to use it on her...but I don't know that it did any good either. It seems to me like it would cause breakage on the yorkies hair since their hair is usually so fine...but that is just my thought on it..not my experience :) |
thank you so much, I kinda had a feeling about that with the Yorkie hair.... but, seems some people do use them for the yorkie... |
I thought the purpose of the Furminator was to take care of the undercoat. Yorkies don't have undercoats. But glad to know it works. I use it on my daughter's long haired cat that I'm stuck with until she graduates from pharmacy school. |
furmentater this is the info i recieved from the company of furmenator: Thank you for your email. The FURminator deShedding Tool is designed to be used on shedding breeds of dogs and cats. Since some Yorkies (depending on their coat texture) shed, the FURminator deShedding Tool will work on their coats. If your Yorkie sheds, then your dog’s coat texture is correct for use of the deShedding tool. Some Yorkies have very thin, fine coats that do not allow the FURminator deShedding Tool to work as it was designed. The FURminator deShedding Tool should only be used once mats and tangles are removed from the coat. The delicate teeth on the deShedding edge may bend or break if used on a dog with mats or tangles. The deShedding tool does not have a cutting mechanism and will not break through mats or tangles as would a dematting tool or other brushes designed for removing mats. In the future, the FURminator deShedding Tool can help to reduce the number of mats and tangles that form due to the removal of undercoat before it gets stuck under the topcoat and causes matting. FURminator Inc. does not guarantee against the deShedding edge. |
