How to remove household odors? Anyone know of any tips, remedies, or products to remove household odors? I live in an older building that was converted into apartments, have pets, cook a lot, the people upstairs cook with garlic on a DAILY basis, etc. so sometimes my apartment smells WEIRD. The smells typically aren't bad- just annoying/odd. ETA: I prefer natural products (Method is one of my favorites- although I haven't used many of their products). Also, has anyone bought any candles from this retailer? http://maximumscented.com/plugins/Mi...s/merchant.mvc |
i use baking soda on my carpet and simple green almost everywhere else. |
my mom swears that sitting a dish of vinegar out will absorb odors, but to me it just makes the room stink like vinegar. |

I just love Bed Bath and Beyond Yankee Candle electric plug-ins. At Christmas they had a cinnamon scent that I just went nuts for. They last so much longer than Glade or Wizard oil plug-ins. I think it lasted 3 months in a very large open room. With the 20% off coupon they are not a bad price. I just don't know which of the other scents to recommend. |
Since you like natural....Try combining some spices that you like in a small pan and letting them simmer on low. Add an apple, cinnamon sticks, stuff like that. Keep it in the refrigerator overnight and you can use it again the next day. Just add water to it. When it finally loses its 'scents' (:D ) throw it away and start over. |
Awesome thread with great tips! The house we are moving into has some pretty strong pet odors. (Although I have a HYPER sensitive nose) I will definitely try some of ya'lls tips! |
My new apartment smells GREAT - but then again - I just moved in :) I use reed diffusers and have one in every room - Pier 1 has the whole set up for 12 bucks and you can add decorative reeds too. The only other thing I can suggest is Fabreeze - I'm addicted to their original scent - LOVE it:thumbup: |
