i have a lump under my arm its HUGE! like the size of a quarter in my arm pit. its been there for a good couple of weeks now and my entire underarm area is killing me. its to the point now where i can barely put my arm down =[ worst part, i dont have insurance! so i cant go to the doctor's to get it looked at. what should i do?? |
Poor thing...I've experienced this very thing actually and all I can tell you is don't mess with it because the more you do the bigger it'll get. The only way to really get rid if it is to have it lanced at a dr's office. It sounds like a boil but just in case it's not you should really have it looked at. |
'try warm compresses to try and get it to come to a head, but it could be an infection that require meds. |

There are lymph nodes in your armpit. It could be a swollen gland indicating an infection somewhere. Strep comes to mind. You really need to go to a doctor. |

I agree with everyone. You need to have it looked at ASAP.... Good luck, and please keep us posted, okay? |
Hhhmmmm I was an OB-GYN nurse for a long time, lumps can be any number of things. First of all dont panic! With that said, they are also nothing to mess around with. In my experience, lumps that are painfull generally have to do with the lymphs in your arm and shoulder. But...its ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. get it checked as soon as possible to avoid further worry and the possibility of it getting worse and having a bigger more painful problem to deal with. Theres alot to be said for peace of mind. Prayers for a speedy recovery! |
I don't think younecessarily need the er but seea dr quickly. Dr.s offices will usually let you pay over time, do not gamble with your health-ever. Get it checked out.:) |
I think you need to see a DR. I'd go to a dr's at his office- tend to be cheaper than the ER |
Is it in your armpit? I just went through this, after all the testing & sonograms my surgeon rec. removal b/c he could tell by the mammogram & sonogram that by the shape it wasn't cancer but either a deactivated lymphnoid or a fibroidadenoma (don't know if I spelled that right) the only reason they were very concerned about it being a lympn. was b/c I had a major surgery 2 months b/f I found it. But after surgery it ended up being a fibroidadenoma which is nothing serious at all but they do recomend it being removed b/c they only get bigger. You need to see your doc asap if it is a lymph. you might need to be on a antibiotic & I know it's hard to stop touching it & looking at it but for me I would read books to take my mind off of it. |
keep us updated, hope everything turns out ok |
What about a free clinic check your phone book for one or Emergency medi-cal ( if you go to the ER ask them if you can apply for this there ) whatever you do get it looked at I hope it all goes well and everything turns out fine !! |
I had this, it was huge and it hurt so bad. The doctor said it was a lymph node and gave me pills to make it go away. It got smaller but i still have a tiny bump there, it doesn't hurt or anything though. |
thank you all for yalls concerns! i did consult with my aunt tonight, she's a nurse, and she said its a boil under the skin but i also have cellulitis. which is an infection under the skin and its spreading throughout my arm now! she did recommend some home remedies to try and bring it to the service so im gonna give that a go. i just have to be overly cautious about popping bumps/pimples (if i can get it to the service and can pop it or drain it some how) because im a carrier of mrsa for a few years now, so yea =/ but really though, thank you all SO much for ur thoughts and prayers and i will definitely keep yall updated. |
Be careful with cellulitis, that can be dangerous. I also wanted to say if you do go to an er, ask if they offer discounts for uninsured patients. I work for a hospital and there is a 40% discount for uninsured patients who pay in full (the 60%) prior to discharge. They also offer payment plans or even financial assistance for people that have very little income. Just fyi for everyone. I wish you the best of luck. |
Here is another home remedy for you. Cut a potato in half (not long ways) scoop the meat out of one half and apply it to area your are trying to draw to a head and cover it with a bandage. It will not only come to a head but it will also lance itself. |

GO TO THE DR. |
Hopefully it's nothing or else can be treated easily with antibiotics! :xfingers: |
::update:: so the cellulitis, the infection under the skin, has spread almost to my elbow now =/ very painful and its making life very difficult...i cant sleep, its hard to dress myself lol, and i never realized how much i actually use my left arm (im a righty hehe) and i did call my doctors office today to see if there was any way she could write a prescription for an anti-biotic without me actually coming in for an appointment and they said no. so then i asked how much an appt is without insurance, and they said its anywhere from 80-170 bucks depending. but they couldnt tell me how much exactly, so i was like, what i just need to bring my bank account and cross my fingers and hope for the best?! so now my mom is going to call the insurance ppl tomorrow to get me put back on insurance which means going back to school (thats a whole different thread!) and see how soon my insurance can get re-instated and try to get me a doctors appt ASAP |

Also, sounds like it is getting bad and I really recommend you get seen, cellulitis can be dangerous. "The appearance of the skin will help a doctor make a diagnosis. The doctor may also suggest blood tests, a wound culture or other tests to help rule out a blood clot deep in the veins of the legs. Cellulitis in the lower leg is characterized by signs and symptoms that may be similar to those of a clot occurring deep in the veins, such as warmth, pain and swelling." 'This reddened skin or rash may signal a deeper, more serious infection of the inner layers of skin. Once below the skin, the bacteria can spread rapidly, entering the lymph nodes and the bloodstream and spreading throughout the body. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the deep layer of tissue called the fascial lining. Necrotizing fasciitis, also called by the media "flesh-eating bacteria", is an example of a deep-layer infection. It represents an extreme medical emergency.' |

i dont think ill have any roblems with the insurance company i mean, i have been with them since birth and they're really good! so im not worried, plus my mom is an insurance lady lol so she can work em if need be but yea, its is very warm to the touch, and its just soo icky!! all red and puffy and then its really dark gray black with the actually knot is. but see, my underarms have always been very dark anyways but the "spot" as im referring to it now lol its soo much more noticible! it looks like someone shoved a ball under my skin =/ |
Gosh, I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to scare you, but this can be very dangerous and I am just a little worried for you. I hope you get your insurance soon. p.s. - I am a medical biller, deal with insurance crap everyday, so just speaking from experience, I hope you have no problems!!! keep us updated. |
Hi, sorry you haven't gotten to the Dr. Hope everything goes okay. If it were me, I wouldn't wait on seeing a Dr. |
I hope you can get to the doctor soon. Havong worked in Insurance for 33 years, it is very unusual to get immediate coverage especially if you are covered as being a full time student and are not currently in school. Is is possible for your Mom to lend you the money for the office visit, It really sounds like you need to be seen and put on meds. Please don't wait. This can become very serious quickly. |
problem I know this may sound nuts, but are you near the ocean? Soaking in the sea water can sure help these things...but seeing the Dr is a must also. |

no im not near the ocean lol but i have tried a warm wash rag under my arm, nothing happened. is it possible that my deodorant may have caused this? because today my under arm was rubbing up against my side and it was making it all hurt that much more, so i put just a small amount of deodorant on and a few minutes later, i had thing stabbing stinging pain!!! it did go away but it was weird, so i was wondering if what im using could have caused this?! |
