What exactly is tapioca? You know...the pudding. What exactly are those lumpy, bumpy things? You know, for the longest time, I wouldn't even try tapioca pudding because the lumpy, bumpy things reminded me of eye boogies. I tried it one day and found that I actually liked it...just trying to get past the lumps. Does anyone know what they are????? |
Tapioca bulb: http://www.anapsid.org/images/tapioca.jpg http://www.asiagalleries.de/Malaysia...ca%20roots.jpg I think that's your answer! |
1 Attachment(s) I haven't been brave enough to try it myself, but I am assuming the lumps are the tapioca pearls (see picture). Tapioca pearls come from the cassava, or yuca plant. Some people also add rice to their tapioca pudding, so that may be the lumps as well. |

I like Tapioca pudding but I will say I prefer rice pudding. Im Puertorican, we eat boiled yuca all the time. It is very good with olive oil. Oh man, now im hungry, ;) . |
are you talking about the yuca plants that grow tall with prickly things sticking out all over it? I had a yuca plant that I had my husband dig up. It was sprouting babies all over the place. If I'd known, I could've sent it to ya! ;) |
When I was younger I wouldnt eat it for all the money in the world, but now I like it. My grandma mades this heavy soup we call "Sancocho", it has differents veggies like yuca, corn, etc. Again I hated it when I was growing up, but now I love it. Weird huh. I didnt even like beans then, but now i do. I guess I was a very picky eater when I was growing up,. I think my daugther is the same way. Oops I went way out of topic, sorry. |

LOL! Don't worry about it! I love talking about food, too!! :p |
OH are you missing out - tapioca is DELICIOUS ! I have no idea what it is but I LOVE the lumps ! :D |
So I'm assuming no one here has tried Bolba?? It's drinks that have huge tapioca balls at the bottom of the drink. You get a huge straw so you can suck up the balls too. The drinks come in any flavor, like tea, mochas, lattes, smoothies, anything. These tapioca balls are like the size of regular sized gummy bears, only round. They are sooooooooooooooooooooooo good. And as for tapioca pudding...YUMM..Villette wanna come over and have some, since we like it so much? |

I have never heard of Bolba. If it taste like tapioca, i guess i will like it too. |
I've never heard of Bolba either. Is there a certain restaurant or something where they serve it? I'm always up for trying something new. |
Vainchick - OMGGGG I did not know, for the life of me, what that stuff was called. I LOVVVVVVE it! I have been trying to explain it to people wondering where I can get it. They put it in smoothies at some places. |

I haven't had it sooo long! I'm going to be like Villette - not happy till I get some!!! |
2 Attachment(s) Oh man, I love tapioca drinks. There are boba drinks (or some people call bubble tea). I think that's what vainchick meant by "bolba". They are delicious. They come all sorts of flavors.. pretty much any flavor/fruit that you can think of, they'll probably have the drink. Strawberry, green apple, cherry, watermelon, Pina Colada, coffee/cappacino, Stawberries and Creme, Peaches and Creme.. and the list goes on! There is a place here called fatStraws (http://www.fatstraws.net/) and it tells you a little more about boba drinks. A lot of places sell different types too, such as regular drinks or you can make it a slushy. My favorite is the coffee slushy with boba. It's soo good. The tapioca on the bottom is real chewy and just the right amout of sweetness. Yumm.. I'm craving some now! lol |
man...now i'm going to get some bubble tea tomorrow!!!!! |
OOh man it's soooooooooooooooo darn good. My favorite is the black milk tea flavor and the honeydew melon freeze. I want one now. Anyone who hasn't tried this...YOU ARE SO MISSING OUT! Vilette you crack me up. I just imagine you toting Chanel and Cheri on each arm, saying "quiet girls! momma needs to find some balboa."... :lol tears :lol tears :lol tears |
I like rice pudding better but they almost taste the same |
I love tapioca pearls too! That's so big in California. I can get it anywhere there eheheheh |
The tapioca pearls has a lot of carbs, but is also pretty high in calories. http://www.diet-data.com/cereal,_gra...oca/pearl/dry/ Coupled w/ the sugar syrups in a "boba" drink...you easily get a very carby and high caloric drink. Similar to that of Starbucks frappucinos. It is good to have one or two on occasion, but not often. (Although they are quite addicting) |

Tapioca is my favorite puddings of all time. The bumps kinda just give my tongue something to play around with while I eat it, LOL.... Love the stuff!!! My husband makes it for me when Im feeling ill as it is comfort food for me. :p |
LUV tapioca pudding,,, I always had the store bought kind,, then someone made it homemade, and the tapiocas were SO BIG, I was kinda frightened! .... But not frightened enough NOT to eat it! YUMMY!!! :D |
DomLee it is SOOO against the law to talk about calories for something so delicious..haha..it ONLY has 2 calories ok???? I would like to keep that thought in my head as I squish the balls from my drink..REMEMBER FOLKS, ONLY 2 CALORIES! :p |
pudding My mother made peach tapioca pudding for us. About once every 5 years I try to make it and have never been able to get anything near it..then I think all the times my mother tried to get me to learn her recipes..which were all in her head and I wasn't interested...my loss. |
Against the law? haha. I live in South Pasadena. There are at least 10 Boba shops that are within 5 minutes from me. And a number of them are open extremely late. How tempting!!! |
:eyetearss :eyetearss :eyetearss :eyetearss I'm laughing out loud here - NOW ...that's a mental picture ! lol Quote:
