Quiting smoking I am quiting smoking starting today.I am taking Chantix and going to a smoking cessation class. Keep me in your thoughts this is gonna be hard for me I have been smoking for 26 yrs. My Husband is so happy he has been worried about me dying because of the smoking. Any tips that anyone has would be appreciated |
:cheer:Yay Lisa, Your doing it Congratulations. I'm going on a month without a cigarette . I'm here for you girl anytime you need any support. Remember one day at a time. |
Yay! I quit last year after smoking for over 35 years. You can do it! I used the patch...there were rough times...just keep on going!! Keep telling yourself how much better your hands/hair/clothes smell! Buy great-smelling hand lotion and apply it throughout the day. Pamper yourself! Good luck! |
From one former smoker to another soon to be former smoker...hang in there! It's tough, but SO worth it. It sucks for only about a week or so, after that it doesn't bother you. Find something to do in the meantime to take your mind off of it and be strong! |
Thank you! It is gonna be hard but My Husband is buying me a new laptop for quiting. I am also putting the money I save in a jar so I can get some things with it |
I found chewing gum really helped. |

I will pray that you beat the addiction. I stopped smoking the evening of August 30, '07, after 36 years. I tried the Chantix, but it made me nauseous (it did work for my husband though and he smoked 2-3 packs a day). I won't lie...there will be times you'll still crave one..I do still, but not near as often. What tip I can offer is when you get that craving....get up and do something different to take your mind off of it. Even if it's just walking to another room. Change your routine...for instance..if you're use to smoking while putting on your makeup...do it in a different room, different mirror...etc. I use to sit at a makeup mirror to dry my hair...now I stand in the bathroom. Anyway that you can change your 'smoking' routine will help. I also had Tic Tacs on hand. Best wishes...you CAN do it if you really want. I never wanted it as much as I did that August day and I've quit. |
Wishing you the best of luck. Sheilagh |

You can do it! I smoked for 29 yrs. and quit 12 yrs. ago. I never thought I could do it, but I did! My sister and her husband used the chantix just recently with great sucess, they both have been smoking for probably closer to 40 yrs. Good luck, just keep trying, even if you slip up and have one, dont give up! |

Taking up exercise in place of smoking is supposed to work well as a replacement. Good luck you have me thinking! |

We Go! ;) Keep me posted on how you do and I'll do the same. Good Luck :) |
BTW, I stopped smoking last year for 2.5 months and was so proud of myself. All of the sudden one night after a glass of wine, I asked my husband for a ciggy. Bad Move! If I hadn't had that one....well, it was a bad move. What a dumb arse I was! I wish my husband would quit :( There's no way I'm bringing home this puppy though and smoke around her. Hubby will smoke outside. I'm rootin' for ya! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: I also wanted to mention, I could tell a difference in my craving on the very first day. I'm still smoking but I lose interest in a cig about a quarter of the way through. I'm putting out more than I'm smoking. That's a good thing :D |

:cheer: :cheer: You can do this! :cheer: :cheer: I quit with Chantix too and it really does help a lot. To tell you the truth, I didn't really even want to quit- I liked smoking. I mean I did wish I didn't smole but I quit because I had always promised my daughter I would quit when I turned 35 and I turned 35 on Dec. 29th so it was time to pay the piper. I figure if I could quit almost against my will, anyone can.:D Good luck! We're here for you!:) |

I quit once for a yr and half. and last year decided to do it again. It is very very hard to do. I have to stress very very hard to do. I was a fool to pick it up again but this time I am determined to leave them alone. my husband quit the same time as i did and is back at it again. he is supposedly trying to quit again since last week. I can't tell you how disgusting it its to smell it on him. I threatened to start again if he don't give it up. when I get the urge....... I just go yell at him and I feel so much better.:D |
I'm really proud for you, and hope I can join you soon. |
Good LUCK!!!! I wish you ALL the best!!! My idea is, if you sit in front of a computer or like to write keep a notepad or word doc handy. Everytime you get a craving type or write in it. Get through the craving by keeping your hands busy! I quit once for a year and I did this and it helped so much. I typed the date and time of the craving and then started typing like a mad woman, cussing, swearing, ranting, begging, pleading, bargaining... whatever it took! When the craving passed I saved and closed the doc. Not only was it fun to read later, but I also saw how the cravings diminished where somedays I had 10 rants to somedays I had none. |

I'm glad to hear that someone quit who didn't even want to :D That would be me. I want to for the health benefits and the fact that they stink, but otherwise, I enjoy smoking. I'd like to live to see all my grandchildren and great grands! Hopefully this will help me to do that. Did you take the chantix today? |
Yes I just got My prescription in the afternoon so I took it then rather than in the morning |
I quit November 11th. Almost 4 months. I still crave smoking, but refuse to spend all that money. My advice is this. When you get nauseous, breathe deeply. I only felt sick for about 10 or 15 minutes about 10 minutes after I took the pill. I could breathe deeply and get through it. My advice is to take the medicine for 12 weeks. I only took it for 4 weeks because it was so expensive. So take it for the 3 months if you can!! Good Luck. With me, it was behavior modification, cause I would come home from work and immediately open a beer and smoke a cigarette! So I had to learn to do other things. Good Luck! You can do it!!!! |

I just realized this morning that I was supposed to take another chantix last night. On the 4th day, you take two and I didn't, so I took last night's pill this morning. I don't want to throw the whole thing off, so I'm going to read the package insert and see what it suggests to do. I probably should have skipped last night's pill after I realized I'd forgotten it and just took this mornings and added that forgotten pill at the end. Oh well... How's it going? |
oh I am happy you are making this big step . . . .it will definitely make you much healthier. . . my hubby stopped smoking the day before 9/11 but I think he has gone back (not a lot though) so am very pissed at him for being so weak :( |

I felt really sick for 4 or 5 days and then it passed. I know Lori ended up taking a half dose and that worked for her. Don't give up! |
Good for you!! I quit smoking 13 years ago.... My mother passed away of lung cancer when I was 18. She smoked 2 packs a day. That was back in 1983 and it was really horrible to watch her die. You would think I would've quit when she died. But at least I finally got smart and did it. I have never wished for a cigarette again either. Remember 99% in the mind - if you truly are sick of smoking and berate yourself everytime you light up that cigarette, you'll definitely kick the habit. I tried to quit a million times before, but the difference that last time was my attitude and I was quiting for myself and no one else. Good luck!! It's not easy to kick- if it was than nobody would smoke! YOU CAN BEAT THIS! |
