Thread Titles Are Killing Me!!!!! I don't know if there is a rash of meanness lately or what, but so many threads are about horribly sad things. Dead puppies, throwing them off cliffs, killing them, beating them...jeez. I realize that there are a lot of sickos in this world, but I can't read the stories. Just reading the titles get me depressed. |
You are not alone. I wish they wouldnt be the titles in the subjects lines either. |
I always thought this was supposed to be a fun and caring place to come. Sometimes, it is really depressing. Just knowing that bad things happen to animals because of sick people is sad enough, but to have to see it in print makes it that much worse. I am choking up now and I haven't even read anything but a thread title. Sorry - remember, I'm the one that can't even kill a fly - I have to stun it and throw it outside so it gets another chance. |

I totally agree with you. I can't read these things at all anymore. To upsetting to me and the story sticks in my head for days. |
I get even more upset when someone posts a link to something awful and doesn't preface it with a warning. I'm all for "warning" labels in titles and before something very sad, upsetting or horrific is posted. I' would appreciate "Warning-May Be Upsetting" in titles. |
Well, since this seems to be directed at me - guess I better reply. I took almost the exact title used BY the Marine Corps Times own news: http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news..._video_030308/ I understand how upsetting the content is, but since when is this site supposed to be.....only about certain things? Where is that said? What else, then, shall we censor? There are things I don't like seeing on here (certain subjects), but I would never raise my hand and say "why are these things allowed to be posted?" - bc maybe they are important to others. I don't mean to start something here - bc I do respect how this makes you feel. But the subject of animal cruelty, while heartbreaking, is rampant - and happens to be pretty important to a lot of folks here. |
One more thing: I don't believe in "softening" that kind of news, personally. It's a horrid act - and softening it's delivery, imho, just further disrespects the creature who suffered in the first place. I will use some kind of "warning" or something in the future - but I don't believe in trying to tone down the title - the facts are the facts. And I'm very sorry for having to "report" them, believe me. |

Your right of course but I think so many sad stories have appeared in the last couple of days, one on top of the other, we are all being affected more so I would say. No reflection on you but just in general I would think. |

Hmm, I'm with both sides but then I started thinking... if we soften reality than it does not have the alarming effect, if it does not have the alarming effect than it becomes tolerated, or silent .... if it becomes tolerated or silent then it becomes rampant... if it becomes rampant ... it could be too late to fix it ... Just a thought... |

I hope you NEVER stop pushing for the cause! :) |

I know the stories are hard to hear but if we all ignore them than these psycho paths get away with it!!! The only way it will stop is if animal lovers, like us, ban together and DEMAND stronger consequences for offenders!!! I am sorry if I offended anyone:( |
While I can see why the word "warning" should be in the title, there is no reason not to post these things here. I know they are downers but what about all the threads for prayer requests? While they should be allowed, I think they could be called downers also. |
so i think if you don't like the title then don't read it! i pick and choose what i read. i appreciate everything that is posted but again i pick and choose. lets not sensor what we post. |

Pretending they don't happy won't make them go away! People that love animals as we all do are the only ones who can change the mistreatment of animals....pretending it isn't there won't make it go away!... We need tougher laws and the humane shelters can't or won't help (many are run by the government and sell their "leftovers" to labs to be experimented on). It is hard to look at...but we need to be mad enough to help to change it! roxanne |

It is actually in the YT list of rules that a "warning" be posted...What's interesting is that I've never seen the rule there before. It must be recent? I was in no way complaining about any member in my earlier post, just that sometimes I open something being caught totally off guard that is upsetting. Quote - Threads that may be upsetting to members (such as graphic puppymill videos) must have a WARNING title and a warning in the post itself, as that way members can choose whether or not they wish to see such content. I don't think posting a warning is censoring. |

http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13 Some of these threads are just plain disturbing....It would be a tremendous help if is wasn't posted in the General or Off Topic sections because just the wording alone in the title is upsetting..... |
While I believe that there should be a warning in the title, I also believe that these things can be posted. Its up to each individual person...and I know its upsetting....but we kind of need to hear them. These things happen every single day -- and making rules against posting them isn't going to make them go away, its going to make us ignorant towards them. Its stories like these that make me want to fight for the rights of animals. They make me cringe...sometimes make me cry...and they stick with me for days, but that is what I personally need to get the drive to speak up about it. Do you think that people who buy a pet shop dog want to hear that their dog's parents are back in the puppy mill? Definetly not. But they need to. For me, this is along the same lines. I'm by no means saying that everyone has to read the stories, but I'm saying that we need to know that they are there and that its happening. |

Some of these stories really do break your heart. Unfortunately that heartbreak is what makes us really want to fight for the animals. They sure aren't all living the pampered and loved lives our babies are. If you are particularly sensitive, just reading the titles is probably enough to "keep the fire" going so to speak. I know I can't watch ANY of the videos. I have in the past and they are too much for me. When they are posted I just read to see what they are about to make sure it isn't something I'm not already aware of. I guess it boils down to staying educated without completely scarring yourself for life and that threshold is a little different for everyone. |
Like when reading the newspaper, some days I'm emotionally fragile and can't read the "bad" news, so I skip those aricles. But other days, I am in the mood to "react" whether it's just in prayer, sending a letter or donation, or joining a protest. So I think people should keep posting and just offer us the choice with their titles. I, for one, would rather read a horrid title and have the choice to skip the thread or not. |
I was telling my husband some of these things I read on the forums and he said, WHy do you read that junk and get so upset? Don't read things that are so upsetting. But, I think you can learn alot of things just on some of the info on sickness etc. but I know when it comes to cruelity I can't hardly handle it. I know I am probably alot more sensitive than some people but it absolutely throws me into a depression. The meaness in this world is getting worse and I think will get worse with time. Its a shame when our children and elderly and animals are the bundt of alot of it. Its hard not to share something thats upsetting so there are really more than one way to look at it and then again I know like you and my husband are saying, read more up lifting things. THing of it is there are more bad things going on in this old world than good nowdays. Its a shame. I also heard about that little puppy but couldn't watch the video. How terrible. |
Thankfully there are people like those on this website that love animals. By the way, even if the story is horrible, I always have to smile at Wylie's Mom's avitar. He is the cutest little guy I have ever seen!!! |
I haven't seen any like that. Anyone want to direct me? |
